VEIL OF MAYA - We Bow In Its Aura

- Lyrics:
Triumphant beyond its glory
Like a towering prize they stand tall
From their hands a demonic entity, as it comes to life
The electric playground breathes irradiant light
Muses the eyes of the faithful with a single touch
Cauterization envelops your soul as all joy drains
From your body
Knees collapsing, you bow in its aura
In the crowd a head gives the word
With a blue glow the playground comes to life
Unveiling the secret in us all
Knees collapsing, we bow in its aura - Hudba
this song and album came out when I was a senior in high school. There used to be a local radio station that had a weekly metal show called The Dungeon. My older brother showed it to me and me and my friends would tune in whenever would happen to remember it was on. It kinda started as a joke and funny thing to do because it was so strange hearing such music on FM radio at the time. This is the only song I can distinctly remember hearing on The Dungeon and still vividly recall the exact car ride I heard it on. This song is responsible for turning me and all of my high school friends into metal heads and introducing us to a whole new world of music. Many metal shows and great memories followed. I always end up coming back and paying respect to the song that started it all for me and it's still one of the most unique metal songs I know.
that's a sweet memory bro, music's awesome like that
What a cool memory. I remember hearing 4 Words to Choke Upon by Bullet for My Valentine when I skipped school during freshman year of high school. It was the first time I had hear "heavy" music like this and it (fortunately) turned me on to early christian metalcore which led to secular metalcore and deathcore. Then eventually djenty metal like Periphery, VoM, ATB, and Erra. I'm similarly eternally grateful for that car ride. And while I can say I don't listen to bands like BFMV or really most typical metalcore anymore, I'm happy they were there to carry me on to better things.
@@davidlindsey5363 oh man. I went from linkin park and papa roach to hand of blood by BFMV lol brother showed it to me, I had it on repeat for like 2 hours. Then I found August Burns Red, Suicide Silence when Mitch was alive, Whitechapel. I still listen to deathcore and am still very in love with it, but bands like Animals as Leaders is what I really love. Crazy how metal has such a negative rap but it’s legit created journeys lol
@@lavabender_taku Dude literally almost the same story lmao. Yeah it'll always have a special place in my heart. I still blast This is Exile from time to time.
Veil is just one of the best such a fun song
This is still one of the sickest breakdowns in metal, period.
This whole album will go down in metal history, as well as conducting from the Graves first album
Veil were mental in their heyday. The riffs in this song are still bonkers.
They're a pain in the ass to play as well. Hopefully they'll go back to their old ways soon enough. Imagine what other crazy shit is lurking in that guitarists head, waiting to be unlocked? They were awesome.
Fucking facts the riffs are still different and aggressive to this day
For real marks riffage is slept on listen to instrumental versions of new shit shes still kickin it its just hidden by loud vocals and synths
@@jeromecaldwell7152 They gotta boot that singer douching everything up, they sound generic now in spite of the main instrumentation being interesting. I can't even get through a song now, they've got two vocal tracks of that guy shrieking about his problems and synths and a couple extra guitar tracks playing chords for the chorus, it's just garbage.
i like both. i almost like the newer stuff more.
11 years later still stuck on this album.
In my opinion it’s one of the greatest metal albums ever written and it’s safe to swim today is the best metal song hands down. I know people may disagree but I think this album (and all things set aside) bridge the gap between melodic and tech death metal perfectly.
@@Alan-gj2mo hard to say best but this is top tier for sure
they nosedived after id.
Tried to become radio rock horse shit. There are only 2 albums and an EP as far as I'm concerned
Me too! My bro showed me thems
marc uses the phrygian dominant mode for a lot of his songs, which a long with the harmonic minor scale it gives it that egyptian feel
this is still the first song that comes to mind when i think of Veil of Maya, such a classic.
Yessss 2023 .
Don't care how old this song gets, it blows my mind
The secret to life is Marc and his breakdowns
Still their best breakdown ever
Agreed
That pattern just can't be beat, beyond catchy.
Agreed
I disagree, it’s a very good game, but I think donkey Kong is the best game ever
It’s bouncy as fuck, definitely agree. Especially the back half of the breakdown when it gets slightly melodic, big nut
Crazy how well this still holds up.
Always worth listening to. Definitely their best album in my opinion. Love the sound of that kickdrum.
0:24 haha somehow I hear "Ted Mosby comes to life"
+sev I can't un-hear it now... great
Lol
god damnit this will never be unheard lol
Fuck dude. I can't unhear this now.
seven duuude i hear it😂😂😂
I love this bands earliest albums as much as Deftones earlier albums. That underlying raw ruthlessness is fukn powerful.
Damn, been a long time that a didnt listen to VoM, the breakdown at 2:36 always make me headbang so hard that I break my neck everytime..
First song I heard by them. Will never forget. Absolute masterpiece
Cauterization, envelops your soul, as all joy drains from your body. i love that lyric
Is it just me or does this song feel really... evil? I can't put my finger on it, but something feels 'off' with this song, and I love it.
I can't get over how technically astonishing those opening riffs are. I've been playing guitar for over 15 years, studied music theory for about 4 years and I'm stunned everytime I listen to it.
yeah, everyone is always like "oh best breakdown" and shit, but these riffs are the real deal imo, they sound so fucking awesome too
this entire album is perfect.
That last breakdown from 2:21 onward is fucking legendary.
Yeah lol,,,shit hits the fan at that point.
2:16 👍👍👍
These guys were awesome live.
The operative word being “were”. When I saw them in 2012, they were garbage. The drummer couldn’t keep time for the life of him, and they kept majorly fucking up. I don’t mind mistakes here and there as long as they’re small and don’t destroy the integrity of the songs, but they were just bad.
im puerto rican and the only one in my fam who listens to this type of music and plan on startin my own band......they say how can like this and i telll how can you not like this :)
Im black american. I understand.
veil of maya should play this album from front to back live. that'd be amazing!
Just the underlying meaning of the song is so true. I love this whole album and what each song represents because they all come together and show you what the common mans collapse truly is and will be.
2023 and still rocking this masterpiece. This album was earth-shattering during its time. I remember my friends and me skating and rocking out to Veil of Maya and other metal. bands.
This album will never get outdated, it's just so fun to listen every time
Still to this day man. That breakdown 🤘😤🤘 gives me chills straight up.
When Veil of Maya ruled.
they still do, theyve changed a bit but theyre still nuts
+Cocoa Leroy lol no
lol yes. open your mind
+Cocoa Leroy no. whiney clean singing? no. sorry pal you have shitty taste.
Taco Crisma dude i usually listen to shit like gutteral slug and abominable putridity. i listen to all kinds of music. open your mind.
12 years later and im still on this album
As a black person who listens to metal and plays guitar, I get exactly where you're coming from. People can't seem to comprehend that race does not determine your musical preference
Keep rocking dude!
Fuck yeah bro my band's drummer is black. He's more metal than any of the rest of us white boys 😁
This song will live on
0:43 - 1:10 so fucking CHOPPY. Too good.
But god damn, 1:10, that shit was groovy and weird as fuck, I miss this so dearly.
2:15 and so forth, such a great ending to a song.
It almost sounded alienesque to me. I dig it.
It's has a dark, eerie bittersweet vibe to it.
For some reason 1:10 gave me Castlevania vibes
I love their lyrics and their drums and their everything and this goddamn band so much
Speedy.... Melodic ...... Awesome
They'll never have this kind of energy again. Everything is too produced now.
Dude yes raw energy gets lost in a stale digital mix. Don't get me wrong I appreciate good production especially on vocals but man it's not the same
This album was the best man
i mean compare this to All Things Set Aside and this sounds too produced too. Its all relative
This is one of my all-time favorites for the reason you are talking about. This era: Rareform, The New Reign, Exoplanet, Planetary Duality, Fortress: with some minor exceptions, they were all just some dudes with guitars, drums, and vocals who wrote songs that sounded cool and felt good to play. Now, it seems like everything is so reliant on digital effects and incredibly-produced (but ultimately sterile-sounding) tracks to sound good. It's not that the music isn't good, it just focuses on the aspects that aren't as authentic and lacks the character of the older stuff. Technology is definitely a double-edged sword.
Riley over here mentioning some of the best shit I know! Nailed it bro. I wonder if it’s because with the first/earlier albums, the bands felt like that had something to prove; a reason to really try to put the right shit together. Then they got comfortable? I’m not saying I don’t like the newer stuff or even that it’s even remotely bad, but it does seem lacking. Maybe I’m just one of those “you can’t beat their old stuff” type of dudes. Who knows?
2:18 is when the party kicks off
Yessir!
That's crazy because me and the boys are cracking beers open at the bonfire at 0:44
it's a banana
i heard this like 10 years ago. i still listen all the time ❤🔥❤🔥
This shit is pretty intense, love it
Damn, dude. Had to swing by and check out some old tracks for old time's sake. I played this whole album out to absolute death for almost two years. I remember listening to it back to back about 3 to 4 times a day for a while. It helped me through some insanely tough times. Common Man's Collapse is, in my opinion, the godfather album to listen to if you want to grasp the progressive, melodic death metal sound in it's "core" variant. Other influences as well and decently tech as well. One of the greatest of all time, in my opinion. This album shaped my tastes and influenced me heavily.
I'm a 32yo oldskul metalhead, and never really been into metalcore scene. I've recently discovered this and I was like.. Wtf? IS this how IN FLAMES sounded back than?
@@drazenstan yeah, I'm 29 and this album came out when I was about 17. Veil's other stuff is pretty good, too, but I feel like this album had the biggest impact. When it came out, it was like everybody's jaws dropped. Techish riffs, groovy rhythms, gangster ass breakdowns, death metal influence, and sick drumming. It had something for everyone.
I didn't find this amazing band until I was watching a creepypasta animation vine then I heard Ellie in part of it and looked it up and fell in love the band is truly amazing
This era of technical death core,
With the unpolished brutal sound .
It was so dam hard .
this pocket doesn’t exist anymore . The sound has to be just right with this genre . It can’t be polished , it can’t have too much synthesisers and gimmicks, it can’t have catchy gang shouts , none of that
I had an incredible realization today while listening to Born Of Osiris' The New Reign. When you're listening to the music, you forget about what 'genre' it is. Like seriously. You don't even notice that you're listening to Metal or Technical Metal or Prog or Deathcore, you're listening to music, and beautiful music at that. Lesson learned: listen to the music, don't argue about what it is because if you're arguing, you aren't listening. Peace, brethren of good musical taste.
Playing along with this is sooooo fun!
I listen to this song every day. EVERY FUCKIN' DAY.
Right on! I lost this cd years ago. I regret it now. Yes cd I know im old but Im poor too. Lol
Jared Alexander
poor peeps torrent!
re discovered these guys through a Twitch stream. I'm stoked brings me back. Too fucking good
No matter what mood I'm in, this song goes. Happy and hype, yup, angry, yup, sad, yup, tired, yup. That's pretty rare for a song.
I'm honestly in love with the sound of that guitar!!! :D
suprised this video doesnt have more hits, this is as good as it gets
Delicious breakdowns
They're probably my new favourite band. I really love 'em! :D
Till this day. Iconic ❤
i miss so much this VOM
This is just magic this song has amazing melodies it sounds so demonic.
One of their best .
The vocals are alot better than i remember
Its insane how intricate these guys were with their guitar riffs. I was 19 the first time i heard this and im 32 now....these guys were so far ahead of the game. Everything is so modernized that it all sounds the same to me. Thos here though, always a visible hidden gem. Thankyou for the memories and nostalgia this gives me. Also not sure of planned, but 2:22 to breakdown, something like 5-7-3-5-7 Idk something like that. (During the palm mute part) Im not sober lmao but use to play 3/4s of the song on guitar. I know what carpal tunnel is now 3:47
Another edit: you guys and after the burial, birn of osiris, back then... the goats. Thankyou ❤
I’m about to be 30 in 7 days. Found this a little over a decade ago and it really does still stand the test of time.
You´re awesome, dude :D
Revisit again because of Ichika Nito
Brofist!
That intro pulls my heart strings
2:58 is beautiful stuff.
loooove this song:)
wow this is awesome!!
Even after playing this song over and over for a year, it still gets me sometimes, its so damn difficult to play.
Summer Slaughter was beast man, good shit!
Yes.
It's been over a year since i listened to this band and the breakdown @ 1:12 - 1:36 still gives me goosebumps!
I love the bass mix on the background. Bass in drop B tuning be clanking and clacking
best band ever must have lots of shirts !!!!
Beyond the scope of what i imagined things could sound like, at the time i was searching for music that i could connect with
Their timing is perfect
Feels like an orchestra.
I had heard that these guys sucked from a few people but now that I listen to them myself I love em
I just found out about deathcore and it led me here. This is pretty amazing stuff. It's so precise for its speed and even retains a sense of melody.
2020 still banging mate!
insane riffs
I remember my first sub-genre.
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
agree completely man
fantastico !!!!!
The metal scene was something else in this era.
i cant handle this song its to much to keep inside
It's about trying to start a weed eater that won't, no matter how hard you rip the cord.
haha same man! been one of my favorite songs to play for a damn while.
Hell yeah dude
Best Technical Death(core) song ever!!!
novo metal na veia....quase capotei mano..
Haha why thank you sir.. I do appreciate it.
It's the djent influences. Something about djent; the tone, the repeating, inconsistent beats...I dunno but it's sick ^_^ \m/
best song off this album
Veil of maya best breakdowns ever? I think so
Oh my God.
Vom and Born of Osiris really show the evolution as far as music lately
@COBfan43 And i totally agree dude. three thumbs up mate!
I hate when people say they're veil of maya fans and they don't even know anything from this album
Smoke weed and listen this song , This is a special moment
TRIUMPHANT
why doesnt this have 1,000,000 views?
Their best song
I'd forgotten how much I liked this song
🔥🔥🔥
HAHAH dude i know exactly what you mean by that. especially starting from 1:15.. i feel like i am surrounded by spirits when i hear that part lol.
^my hero
