  • This is another of the versions of "Happy Birthday" that students in Majkin, Namu Atoll, Marshall Islands like to sing. Although they adopted the phrase "happy birthday" from English, they have multiple songs for it!

    Hello Nola,
I love the children singing with such joy. I am writing because my son is Marshallese. I am thrilled to see him,at the age of 13, embraced his heritage. As his big 8th grade project, he is learning the ukulele so he can sing Marshallese songs, and have the Marshallese lyrics and their English translation. As you are probably aware, there are few materials for learning Marshallese songs and language, as an English speaker. Do you have suggestions for how he can get lyrics (in Marshallese and English) and sheet music for ukulele would be wonderful. We have done months of research and are not having very good luck. Many thanks to you. Please say "hello" to the children from "relatives" far away in the USA. We plan to visit in the coming few years.
