Totally agree. My #1 favorite Glee performance. Not to mention, everything about the scene within the performance just works. Max Adler's portrayal as Karofsky was underrated until this scene. Everything about it was beautiful and sad and poetic. My hope is that it helped even one kid.
Little background for this....he lives. Karofsky is a complicated character in that in early Glee, he bullied Kurt to the point of Kurt wanting to commit suicide. He also assaulted him by kissing him and then threatening to kill him. Eventually Karofsky comes out and Kurt forgives him. He moves to a different school and they find out he’s gay and this scene happens. His dad finds him and he survives. Another great Darren performance is Somewhere Only We Know, and a completely drama free one is Last Friday Night lol.
I haven’t finished yet but I just got to the part where you say ‘hopefully not too much drama’ and lmao this is probably THE most dramatic Glee song. But it’s also my absolute favorite!
Right after the episode ended they showed the number for local suicide preventions and especially for the Trevor Foundation that helps lgbtq+ youths in need and they registered 300% more calls that night compared to every other night. In short I would say that they knew what they were doing and they used those scenes to reach out people in need of help.
This was one of the best covers Darren did on Glee. I think you should think about reacting to the "Rumour Has It/Someone Like You" performance from Glee (I personally think it was the best cover done on Glee). The song features the powerhouse voices of Amber Riley (Mercedes) and Naya Rivera (Santana). The "Rumor Has It/Someone Like You" performance is an emotional performance because it was part of a storyline involving Santana. The combination of Naya's acting and singing during the performance in my opinion just make the performance that much better. Mercedes and Santana performing together either in duets or in group performances were always a treat. Some other notable duets/group performances that featured Mercedes and Santana worth reacting to are: - "The Boy Is Mine" - "River Deep, Mountain High" - "Survivor/I Will Survive" - "Shake It Out" - "Doo Wop (That Thing)"
I was extremely lucky to see Darren sing Cough Syrup live on the LM/DC tour a couple years ago. I was sitting front row right in front of him. OMG! The intensity of his performance was amazing!
This was so sad. I remember watching this and it broke me down. It's so real, so many young ( and older ) people, this is their story, their reality.. It needs to stop. Thank you for reacting to this.
First thing: this is my FAVORITE Glee performance and it makes me sad that it doesn’t have a video I can go back to. I’m sorry you didn’t get a trigger warning. I always put one on my recommendations
Glee’s version of this song was spectacular but Darren’s live performances of it are even better!! So glad you reacted to this:) you should definitely keep an eye on “against all odds” for future glee reactions, another great live rendition from Harry Freaking Potter himself
The suicidal character is called David Karofsky (his football peers mostly call him Karofsky on the show). After hanging himself he becomes unconscious, the belt tears apart and he falls down. His dad finds him, calls the ambulance, and he heals at a hospital. Not only does he survive, but he returns in the last season and has a storyline with Darren's character.
This is one of my favourite Glee covers to listen to, and the performances of both Darren and Max Adler in this scene are nothing short of incredible. If I could pick a performance for you to react to, it would probably be 'Gloria'- the scene is played humorously, but the vocals are excellent- and it features Adam Lambert, who elevates any performance!
Hey, I really appreciate how quick you were to switch tone once you saw what was going on with Karofsky. The fact that you made a quick note after the video and added links for anyone who needed them is so thoughtful and respectful. It’s more than most people would do
I loved when Darren did this song. He is so talented. From my Hometown of San Francisco. Went to an all boys(now coed) Catholic High School. Which I was reminded of when he was a Warbler on the show. His high school was very much upper middle class, preppy high school. Lol. I had to Watch this episode for Karofsky :(
I think this is one of glees best, because it’s so personal and puts out a message unlike anything a show like this is expected to. This is targeted to mainly tweens and teens more than adults well into their or past their 20s- so having a song that is to be associated with Dave’s battle with suicide and sexuality is surprising. Breaks my heart especially because I’ve been in a similar situation, and I’ve had terrible mental health issues that have brought me to the brink before. Even though Dave is just a character, it brings me back to those moments I’ve had in my own life where it was almost enough and I empathize and relate. Darren Criss is an amazing vocalist as well, so his delivery throughout this performance manages to ramp up the gut wrenching as well.
Dave is fine, his story arch on the show is great though. He bullied Kurt, and then threatened to kill Kurt after he hate kissed him. We found out in that moment why he was bullying Kurt. Then the next year is when this scene happened.
Some song suggestions from me are not the boy next door, somewhere only we know, mine, the scientist and the other version of teenage dream from season two. For the drama between couples, Kurt and Blaine obviously have some but compared to other couples, it’s not that bad.
The following songs were actually recorded live during the filming of Glee, rather than recorded and than broadcast during the filming. Le Freak, Ride wit Me, Teenage Dream (Acoustic Version by Darren) The First Noel, At the Ballet, Not While I’m Around and Suddenly Seymour Duet with Darren and Lea)
Thank you! I watched bc I’m a parent that had bad thoughts at that ahe and now have teens. This song and and your reaction brings the emotions into a good perspective.
This scene has always been a rough one, but I hate how it hits even so much harder now because Darren's (real life) brother Chuck recently committed suicide 😔💔 It IS truly one of the best Glee covers, though
can you maybe in the future react to against all odds glee? it’s performed live by darren criss on the show so that’s really cool :) anyways love this video!
My favorite song of 'Klaine' is "got to get you into my life" and can you also react to Choose our destiny episode named: holiday funride, you can find it on youtube. Lauren Lopez, Brian Rosenthal, Corey, Joey and Ashley improvise for 30 minutes and the audience chose their destiny xp
This sequence gives me chills. I disliked Karovsky in all seasons, but this still got me. So real and so important. And Darren’s singing is amazing, obviously!
"that's great buddy, put on a suit if that makes you feel better!"
me: that's not... well... he'll find out in a second .-.
Bro yessss that was meeee 😭 Ik it’s not a funny matter but when he realized his “oh” I felt so bad for laughing 😭😭
Same i was like "Umm no that's not what he was thinking about" 😬🥲
Best glee number EVER Darren was such a gift to this show
Best number ever? Not even close.
Agreed

Last Friday Night is completely drama free? Lol
@@ExElliexE I mean there’s some annoyed glances from Santana but other than that it’s mostly just performance
@@RonHeartsMe oh nvm I was mixing it up with Teenage Dream lmao very different
@@titusemerson7539 why the hell would you do that? That’s really fucked up dude
@@ExElliexE what did they say?
this was one of the sadder moments, his dad found him just in time
The kid lived. You find out in the scene immediately following this number.

Darren was on Glee from the time he was introduced in season 2 to the series finale (Season 6).
i feel like a lot of the better blaine songs are emotional
darren really nails that emotion

“Hopefully not too much drama.” Lol literally one of the most dramatic scenes you could’ve picked.
First thing: this is my FAVORITE Glee performance and it makes me sad that it doesn’t have a video I can go back to. I’m sorry you didn’t get a trigger warning. I always put one on my recommendations

Thankfully, Karofsky survives in that episode

This is one of my favorite songs to listen to but it's so sad to watch
You should react to Loser Like Me... it's a performance and no drama- happy song. One of the few original songs
This scene has always been a rough one, but I hate how it hits even so much harder now because Darren's (real life) brother Chuck recently committed suicide 😔💔 It IS truly one of the best Glee covers, though
His father founded him in time and got him to the hospital and he lives. He also later talks to Darren character and Kurt

The video is pitched up from the actual song, but it’s still a great cover
I always feel bad because I love Blaine singing this and I’m like vining to it but at the same time all that bad stuff is going on
Ah yes I to injoy vining to music. On another note I completely agree I feel bad but he's really talented.
