Pongal is a four-day-long harvest festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu, which falls in the month of “Thai” when crops like rice, sugarcane, turmeric etc. are harvested. This festival is celebrated as a way of showing gratitude and appreciativeness to God for the harvest of the year. The festival is celebrated as Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal in four consecutive days.
According to the Hindu Mythology, Lord Shiva once asked Basava (Bull) to take a tour on the Earth and ask to propose to the people to endure an oil massage and head bath every day. However Basava (Bull) disclosed to have an oil bath once in a month. Furious and enraged at the intrusion Lord Shiva cursed the Basava (Bull) to live on the Earth permanently and said that Basava (Bull) have to plough the fields and help people produce more food. Thence, people after harvesting celebrate this festival with crops and cattle.
The album “Aaesa Pattu” is a exclusive compilation of folk songs sung by Pushpavanam Kuppuswamy, Anitha Kuppuswamy with unmatchable and unbeatable energy levels, penned and composed by Pushpavanam Kuppuswamy.
Pushpavanam Kuppusamy, a recipient of Kalaimamani award from the Government of Tamil Nadu is a playback singer, Tamil folk singer, lyricist, writer and music composer and is credited for resuscitating the Naatupura Paatu, a Tamil folk art.
