I just think releasing a game like this without letting you invite friends in 2023 is inexcusable, most people play games like this so they can play with their friends

the biggest problem with history mode is that they removed like 90% of the boss fights, so i don't really see how a price of 70$ is justified
and also having to pay extra money for some background music is insane considering u can just play it on youtube

Everyone knows the boss fights were the highlights of storm over the years. That being said, they should’ve just had a boss rush mode where you only fight the major bosses from the past storm games with the button sequences still included.
Good job, you predicted their upcoming dlc, they are so obvious and so hungry for money that they gonna make us paid for something that it should be included in the release of the game

Naruto fighterz sounds amazing and I do miss the PS2 ultimate ninja games along with Uzumaki Chronicles, and a clash of ninja series which a lot of people don’t even know what that is today. Everybody just usually jumps on storm or Shinobi strikers or maybe even a phone game

I am glad I watched your review. I was thinking "Oh its all 4 games combined into an easy package". Story mode being slide shows instantly turned me away.
They could've copy and pasted the story mode from 3 and I would've been satisfied. Ultimate my ass!

I mostly played tournaments in the old games so no tournament mode sucks for me.
The storm series has been one of my favourites of all time and I have purchased them all, including pre-ordering since generations onwards and re-buying the first trilogy on PS4. But this one is where I draw the line. Thank you for a great and honest review Globku, I'll wait to see if it's a more complete experience down the line

I was young and mostly got them as birthday presents haha, but I would argue that especially as an Xbox 360 player they offered a lot better new content and additions than this one has. Plus they were more complete on release and didn't have day 1 season passes like this one. Generations was the first game I got to play as all the storm 1 characters because 1 isn't on Xbox 360, and also the revolutions tournament mode was something very new for the series. I do think they brought way more gameplay changes for a cheaper price, and those games had a much smaller release window between each one, but I do see your point

What bothers me the most is the many steps back CC2 once again made here.
Just look at all the content they removed: selectable Jutsu such as Kakashi's dog summons and super unique tilts such as Madara's Uchiha Reflection, Itachi's Crow Dash or Edo Hashirama's Heavenly Gates. Not to mention the chakra shuriken.
Safe for the few new characters, Storm 4 seems like a superior game all around

Yep. So many cool moves just wasted. And adding damage scaling was dumb. I can confidently say that this is just storm for casuals. I hope Storm 5 will be good.

I personally think they should have let this game cook more and we got it sometime next year, I have probably said this before but this could have been a game where it connected a lot of things in terms of naruto hence it's name Connections. I wouldn't mind seeing some filler ninja as playable like Sora from the fire temple, they could have brought Bando, Kagura, Towa and Komachi from clash of ninja rev 2. Like there was so much they could have done especially with the fact any trailer you find brings up the 20th anniversary and I feel as a big 3 it should have had more, content, new playable ninjas, MORE TIME. I for one wouldn't have minded the wait and the collector's edition looks really cool but for a game that could have just been a expansion I sadly won't be picking this up at full price maybe not even on sale.
It’s a cash grab for the Naruto anniversary. Ninja storm 4 was meant to be the last game in the series. But Bandai wanted this.

As someone who was really hoping the story for this game would be a free roam perfect blend with tons and tons of single player content seeing how long it takes to beat storm 1-4's story mode in one sitting... I was really disappointed to hear that they just rehashed everything and used the storm 4 type of mission selection where it's through menus. I don't think I'll be buying this either, and now this game makes me very concerned for the future of Budokai tenkaichi 4, and if we ever get a burning blood 2.
I definitely really hope these season passes are actually heavy and frequent. This game needs MORE
they will do all of what you suggested, but you gonna have to pay 10 dollars for each thing
Also worth noting is that the history mode has less boss fights than the original story modes. For example there is no night guy in the history mode

I think it's crazy how small little details we got in Storm 4, like the lightning effect on water are completely gone in this game for no good reason at all
In my opinion in order for me to get back into the game is the online modes, I'd recommend bringing out modes like co-op boss fights where the boss has a huge handicap compared to the players, kind of like how fighterz did their content.
Honestly this whole game feels misguided. Like they're desperately attempting to make a "competitive" game with the standard hallmarks that people THINK make for a healthy e-sport. The problem is these games are just casual as hell from their inception. No post-launch support is suddenly going to turn this around.
Plus, the online folks are the minority when it comes to sales of the Storm series. Most people are in it for the single player/playing with friends. CC2 will probably taken a financial hit with this, especially after factoring in all the post-launch support they promise to do. Eventually companies will learn that you just need to make a fun game and the rest will naturally follow.
I've been playing Naruto games since the PlayStation era and having grown up watching Naruto in french it feels so refreshing to have the voice actors of my childhood voice the characters for the first time ever

I was happy when I heard a new Storm was coming out but it did raise red flags because they said Storm 4 would be the last Storm ever. And unfortunately the game seems disappointing with the removal of chakra shuriken, tilt and jutsu selection.

I just don't get how CC2 is always deleting features from the game. Like I would love to have somehow a more complex Naruto with more moves and tricks. They removed the 4th combo long time ago, wall running, clashes, tilt (special unique technique), special shurikan ect. It's frustrating. Now they barely added any new characters, meanwhile we know exactly that there is more being sold later as a DLC. In 7 years of development this is such an incomplete game/product. The story really is underwhelming and the story characters are not even available as fighters in the game. It would be refreshing if there was another publisher bringing some competition to the table.

CC2 lost something when they went from the Ps2 ultimate ninja era to the storm Ps3 era. They used to put so much care into all of the characters. Even old characters where constantly being reworked with new combos, ultimates, and jutsus for each game. I like the storm series but the og ultimate ninja series will always be peak CC2.
Too many characters introduced as the series progressed, makes it harder to balance so shitty mechanics. PS2 games had the luxury of a smaller cast.
I also miss the mini games from the ps2 games too. I think that the mini games added some nice variety to the games honestly. Not to mention that the ps2 ultimates were cooler than the storm ones in my opinion too. Honestly it would be cool if they remade those games or made another game in a similar style to test waters.
@@GodhandPhemto to be honest those games had almost 70 characters (ultimate ninja 3 to 5) which is a lot too despite being less than the storm games.
I loved Ultimate Ninja 3 it's one of my favourite games to this day, and it annoys me characters like Shizune, Anko and Kurenai were never playable characters in any Storm game.
@@SailorSteph same! Also I agree! They already have their models in the older storm games because they used to be support characters. I don't get why they can't make them playable as well. At least they're playable in the Naruto ultimate ninja games on ps2 and psp and the clash of ninja games.

It's not worth the money.
For me, it's mostly because it lacks more characters - Boruto Gen or the Boruto versions of Naruto Gen with new moveset and not just copy and paste. Remove counter. Story is okay, nothing huge there, could have been better and more depth. Expected more details and more environmental damage or something on the new-gen PS5. Why remove the tilt to just put it as second jutsu and now tilt does nothing.
The game feels like a big DLC tbh. Sad, but it is what it is. Nice to have a storm game with hopefully a lot of people online again.
What I can’t and won’t forgive them is the lack of the 7 swordsmen of the mist as playable characters, what a joke…
Must be dlc at least I hope. I have been dying to play as the 7 mist swordsmen since fighting against them as kakashi in storm 3 just have to see what’s up with that season pass

No one can convince me that the pre-selection for online is good, if people want that it's alright, but also give us the option to select on the spot, I forgot to change character in Demon Slayer and lost on Ranked because of it, not to mention whenever you want a different stage.
Are there any fighting games that let you select the character and stage online as you're playing? I play a lot of them, and I can't think of any. Also, why is preselection bad? I feel like it just saves time going from match to match only having to do it once.
@@sampletext02I personally don’t like it because I play multiple characters I don’t play just one character/team. This game isn’t so bad cuz you can change your full team after a match but going into it you have to select before you search. But other games like street fighter for example make it to where you can only play that character you pre selected before searching. So say if you lose but think you can beat whoever you’re fighting with another character, well it’s too bad cuz you’d have to exit to the menu to simply change character and you’d never find that person again to try and beat them
@@AlemanHyuga I see. Yeah, I guess I've played 2D fighters so long I haven't really ever thought about having that option before, I can see why people might want it. Especially in this game, where the characters are easy to play and you can switch pretty comfortably.

It saves team if you like using only a specific character but most people liked the freedom of choosing after finding the opponent, plus if you wanted to save time there were already presets you could use, this just complicates it, not to mention how annoying it is to have to change the stages too.
Finally someone talked about this, to me this is the worst thing in this game it’s a downgrade
Naruto is my favorite anime ever and I understand how people may feel about Boruto but I actually think they be better off making a full Boruto game. I know the lie ending situation prevents that but enough people advocated for it, I think we could make it happen.
well Boruto is not that good of a story and the anime with all those fillers is even worse however Boruto : Two Blue Vortex so far as been better than Boruto.

Agree tbh. I hate the boruto anime and manga a lot, but it just makes more sense to make a game focused on boruto. Not only would there be a lot more NEW content, but we would get new characters and a storyline that no other naruto game has ever covered before, which is much better than a rehash storyline like this game

Basically as you said it's a Storm generations 2.0, so the big piece must and I hope it will arrive with Boruto Storm 5, also because it wouldn't make sense to put playable characters like kara, Kawaki or Bayron mode Naruto without the canonical story ,anyway I can't wait to play it.

Yeah this definitely looks like its builiding towards a boruto focused game in the future, which is exciting even though I dont like the boruto anime/manga. It would be dope to have a boruto game just so we can have more new content to play. If they do end up making a boruto game, I'd even settle for getting anime-original characters such as kagura, Shizuma, Sumiere, Deppa, or the weird stone ninja puppets from the mitsuki rescue arc. A boruto storm 5 could actually have so much content, and its really inexcusable that boruto has been a manga for almost 10 years now and still doesnt have a console game that focuses on its full story.

@@wasupman777 Content wise, it basically is just a large dlc pack. The only thing that even makes it KIND OF feel like a new game is the new-combo centered mechanics. Visual wise, content wise, and price wise, this just feels a cheap cashgrab. I hate when games announce paid DLC before the game even drops, because all that content could've been in the base game if the developers really wanted to.
Storm 3 was, is and forever will be the best storm game ever launched. IDK why the just don't keep the online modes the same i mean we had spectators lobbies even tournaments on ps3 but ps5 we get half a game for 10$ more

I would have definitely hoped not have to whether another rocky start to eventually love a game but this kind of release really hurts to see. That said many of the adjustments I wanted are present and hopefully the issues that remain are addressed sooner rather than later.
I'm waiting for someone to make a showcase of all the changes to old characters. Seeing Lee do the Leaf Combo Attack in the air (13:56) was pretty wild...

I got to play this for a total of like 20 minutes at AX earlier this year and had a ton of fun but that doesn’t even compare to playing 20 hours.
I got to try this game at MCM last month and I already dug the changes I did notice, especially the second Jutsu replacing super shurikens. Now I know everything, I'm grabbing this as soon as possible.
The veredict: Buy Game after huge discount
I'm excited about Connections. Ashura and Indra, all the returning stages that weren't in 4, some boss battles from Storm 1 and 2 (which I never got to play), the Narutopedia, etc... I only care about offline modes like story and especially vs CPU mode and survival.
I was considering getting this if the story mode was good. It would have been really cool to play through the entire Naruto saga in a single game. But I'm not buying it for a glorified powerpoint presentation inbetween the fights.
as someone who has already played all the storm games the story mode doesn't upset me too much, but i get it if it's your firdt storm.
i think the only major problem is not being able to invite friends, but it's a game built to last years and follow the new boruto manga so overall i'd say it's worth it
I've played all of the storm games too. In fact, I was very surprised some people were complaining about slideshows in the story mode. Naruto Storm Generations had slideshows in their story mode.
I still have naruto storm collections. I was waiting for this review because I was really not sure if I should buy this game. But now I know it is better to wait. Thanks for the review
Why this doesn't surprised anyone who didn't buy the hype? If feels the players are the transaction here, not the game... the game is pretty much the same thing as before and our nostalgia is the product. I feel a game this incomplete and with what is lacking should be way cheaper. After all, there will be season passes and all that same old market strategies to drain the fans. Personally there are only two situations where I'll buy this. The first is a heavy discount... something near to 70 or 80% (maybe second hand), or when they launch a definite edition with all DLC content in the future. Until that time I can play the previous games or watch it online...

Thank you for the review, I know what I should do with this information. I will wait for another sale on the Storm legacy game and buy those and play the game I have always dreamed of, and when the sale is reasonable enough or at least after Storm 5 is officially released. Connections might be like extra stuff for me after finishing storm 5.
I've been waiting for this. Finally get to see what the game has to offer, ive been so on the fence about getting it.
One thing that would help me decide if I buy this is: Is there any improvements in the AI's fighting? Does it use the combo system? In previous games the AI was way too easy to beat, even on highest difficuilty, and I like to play against good AI in fighting games, like in Mortal Kombat AI is challenging enough for me.

Damn the gameplay actually looks pretty different with the new combos and mechanics. I think I was little too harsh on the original reveal trailer. Gotta make a new vid when I cop the game‼Thank god for the net code improvement. I've been waiting for something like that in a Storm game for YEARS. Hopefully they patch in sending invites to friends ( i never thought that such a simple feature would ever need to be patched 🥴). Even with that being said, I think that there's the foundation of a great game here.
Hopefully we also get the option to select ninjutsu as well I like having two I was just wish I could choose them at least for the team leader
i think this game will be a live service one, and we will probably have multiple season passes, with new characters and maybe new stories (they still didn't adapt the last). i will be not surprised if we get battle passes or something like that lol

We got voice dub in Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese (I think) in Storm 4 as well, it is really cool to see the other new languages but I thought pointing it out was for the better

Sad this THIS is the game they’re trying to make last for months on end. That THIS is the best the team could’ve done. We know what CC2 can do. This was a half-baked game. Missing online features, missing polish to soundboard and cutscenes. Missing a better planned out history mode. Like why would I recommend this game when I can tell them to buy legacy and they can play the ACTUAL history of the whole series the way it’s supposed to? Fully animated cutscenes. Literally the only thing this game got right was the netcode. They chose this game to be the one that lasts but they did everything in their power to push people away from buying it. So much more could’ve been done. I really don’t understand. People are done buying unfinished games just because of the brand. I don’t think this game will last but we will see
It feels like this game is what they would've ended up with if they spent an extra year or so with 4 in full development.

I really hope they listen and update this game down the line, I know it probably isn't possible but something like crossplay. It is a crazy stretch and probably will not happen but if they were to add something like crossplay down the line like how they are adding custom matches, that would be cool.
If they kept this game how it is and added a free for all tournament kinda like they did in revolution i totally wouldnt mind buying it. Specially if they made a free for all online type of tournament with ranks it would be more competitive and fun in my opinion

About the netcode, do you play wirelessly, or do you use a wired connection?
I just wanna ask can we watch the re cutscenes and quicktimes without having to play them like in storm 2. You beat the game you can unlock the QuickTime event to watch again without playing the boss fight

I’m literally so excited for this game I’m just very unhappy about custom match’s not at launch that’s really my main problem with it. I wanted to play it with a friend but does s yokel know a work around how I could still play with my friend online ? I’m on ps5 version
There doesn't seem to be enough content for me to pick this up on launch for full price but Storm games usually have long lives so I'll eventually get it and see what's up for myself. Thanks for the review!
The story mode is essentially a Glorified boss rush barely tho because most of the bosses aren’t even there
Over all I like Storm connections for what it is. And my absolute favorite thing about this game is that you can toggle stage ring outs on or off cause that danger drop made me not pick those stages in previous storm games. So it feels nice to be able to fight on the great Naruto bridge without having to deal with ring outs if you don't want to.

I get why some people are mad, but the thing I’am most angry about is no support of crossplay. This was the biggest bummer. Just imagine having players from all of the platforms play together, it would be awesome for the game as well. Since I’am on PC, I hope it wont be dead in a year…

From what you've said CC2 is just trying to grab more cash from the fan base like they did with generations and revolution. Not only that but they advertised it as storms 1-4 +some new original story. But the storm 1-4 content has been largely cut into anime stills again? I already hated that when they did it in storm 4. It's lazy, they couldn't even just use the actual anime scenes? Rise of ninja used full scenes from the anime on the 360 and CC2 can't do it on the PS4? This is not the first time they've bent the truth while advertising one of these games, Edo kage, and kurama avatar in storm 3 got full scans for what was a story only enemy and an ultimate jutsu. Let's also not forget advertising stuff for the Naruto the last movie only for it to just be two characters and some costumes. Oh and also the season pass with hokage Naruto and pre order Sarada and Boruto dlc, that ended up coming to the game in a better capacity in the Boruto movie dlc, I could keep going. They are one of the scummiest game companies I've ever seen. Do not buy their games, especially one like this. If revolution and generations are anything to go by, Boruto storm 1 will be releasing sometime in the next two years, and this is a tech demo.

There are videos of english dub and japanese dub ULTIMATE JUTSU'S. And holy god the english dub is bad. It was re-dubbed with worse direction than storm 4. Ultimate jutsu : speed up dialogues, characters tones are off in the ultimates, less aggressive in some scenes. Even some canon stuff is broken for example Haku in storm 4 says "this is the fate of a ninja" and in storm connections Haku says "this is your fate" with 0 emotion. Most of dialogue is 0 emotion and no effort like it was recorded from home and as fast as possible. Its very weird that japanese dub is left clean and not ruined, yet english dub was completely butchered like crazy.
Its super bad especially if you compare it to storm 4 its like 2 different studios or management did it.

CHECK : Jugo, shisui, madara with fan, haku and zabuza of storm 4 and connections, the quality of dub difference is insane.

Spot on review in my opinion. As a long time storm supporter and Naruto games in general, it’s a bittersweet game. It’s a more refined storm 4 with a graphics buff. There needs to be more content…biggest thing holding this game back. It blows my mind that character models and move sets exist for some characters that for some reason haven’t been added. There should be at least 20+ characters in this game, more Justus, more cinematic combos, more UJ, more costumes, customizable awakenings, better stage mechanics and translations. At this point it’s pure extortion..but i guess I’m the problem for buying it

Honestly I just hope they give older characters additional ultimates for there boruto outfits. It's the least they can do. And hopefully something new for there combos is well welcomed to. I'm tired of characters like ino, choji,shikamaru, Sai, Kiba, hinata, shino, lee, tenten, neji and so on be practically the same character since storm 2 with very minimal changes. They need some love if ima support this game
is sasuke book of sunrise outfit gonna be in? since Naruto Great Ninja war end is? I feel like this would've been better bonus for the game then naruto and it also makes me fear that it either isnt a current avaliable costume you can grind for; rather it would be something they MIGHT add later on as dlc i guess? Also the chinokie girl and the guy she was partner with isnt in which is kinda weird.
also do anyone know if you can get maskless kakashi/ naruto costume without buying the upgrade edition and just grind for it?
They got Naruto end of war, Sakura end of war, but it seems Sasuke hasn't gotten the Shinden/end of war costume or maybe is an unlockable via character proficiency, icould defintely see "The Last" Sasuke getting an alternate "Shinden" costume hopefully later on

How did they manage to disappointed with the history mode. All they had to do was make a few new boss fights retool the old ones and I would have been satisfied

@@UnravelGhoulxwhich isn't unexpected or even necessarily a bad thing. The History Mode is very much side content, at least how it's presented here. The Special Story Mode seems like the main draw to me, at least in terms of where the effort went.
Problem is, the game was almost entirely marketed on the History Mode, and most of it isn't even the good content. The previous Storm stories were always hailed for their production value, presentation, and boss fights, but almost none of that is actually here, which means the History Mode ends up feeling like it was tacked on as nostalgia bait rather than being designed to celebrate the franchise and bring in returning players.

Damn, I don't understand how you would fuck up history mode like that but give Boruto the full treatment. A fully remade story mode from Storm 1 through 4 would have made me cop. At this point, I might as well buy JJK or Demon Slayer. No love for the OG fans.

I was going to buy this instead of Storm 4 for switch as I wanted a switch Naruto game to just relive the story. But after I found out that this cuts a lot of story battles and seems to be more like a season pass kinda of game where online seems to be the main focus, I am just gonna buy storm 4
Make sure to get Storm Trilogy as well as Storm 4 only tells the second half of the Great 4th Ninja War.

The thing that tires me out about these games is them talking about the size of the roster. Like yeah it's 130 characters. But on the first page you have 6 Naruto, 3 Kakashi, 2 Guy
So best to wait on sale than pay full price? I can do that. Love the series but if they cut out content then what's the point?
