Awesome. Conventions have changed so much.
I used to go to San Diego comic con when I was a young all the time. When I met Stan Lee I think in 1989...I literally bought a ticket at the front door and walked in. They were in the market floor and not many people bothered them too much. I shook hands with him, told him I admired his work and started looking for deals on old X-men comics.
Since Iron Man, you can hardly get in anymore, hardly see anyone and no one reads comic books. But thats the times I guess. Cosplay was big then too, I never did, but have sone friends that do, still do to this day.
I got to meet Stan the year before he passed! Nicest person ever! R.I.P. Stan.
Cons are trash, at least the big ones. Went to Supercon and it was basically Demon Slayer Con. Nothing but mainstream crap and normies/tourists everywhere.
Cons got better since 2010-ish. Before Onlyfans and sites like it, comic cons were the top place for many girls (not all of them) to "promote" themselves. Since Manyvids was created, all those girls ditched comic cons and made their way to Manyvids, OF and other platforms. Good riddance.
Snarky, thank you for the attention you pay to the fans. You are awesome.
As a member of the press we have seen you at quite a few conventions and I will say it's always nice to see you there. We spend hours covering cosplay and you are one of our favorite cosplayers because you put the energy and work into what you love. You are 100% correct it is like a job to be a guest cosplayer. If you add up the costs of hotels, props, food, spending money, gas/ubers etc it costs a lot. There is nothing wrong with a guest cosplayer asking for hotels/food expenses and an appearance fee to be covered. Before the convention most guest cosplayers spend a lot of money on photography shoots, prints, additional props, and banners. Not all guest cosplayers break even because we have been to conventions where people just don't buy the prints. We always try to buy something from each guest cosplayer we cover because we appreciate the excitement cosplay brings to conventions. Most people go to conventions for two reasons these days: cosplayers and celebrity guests. We also stop and support comic artists because without them comic cons wouldn't have become popular.
Thank you for sharing Snarky. What's important is that you love what you're doing. I respect the hustle.
So proud of your work ethic. Respect.
Letting the chicken nuggets get cold? If that ain't love, I don't know what love is.
I found that videos like this, where you talk about conventions are where you really shine. I love it!
Thanks for the behind the scenes insight. All the hard work isn’t obvious to us when we see the final presentation at the cons.
Much respect!
It may have been a hell of a journey, but the love is strong! Both ways. I and many others thank you a whole lot for everything you do and being such a bright light in a slightly darkened world. You are one of the few that gave me the courage to get into cosplay despite my challenges. And I hope that this video just adds to encourage others to do that same. So again, thank you and I truly hope to see you again, to tell you that in person as well.
Thank you my friend!
I've gone to plenty of horror conventions. Sometimes I'm blown away with the lack of security.
Because all it takes is that one single fan, who isn't right in the head to ruin everything.
But for the most part, it's an awesome, fun time, especially the Q&A.
As a guy who did security for UK sci-fi cons I can attest to just how seriously we took the job. You are right, there is always that fan who thinks an actor is their long lost love etc, etc, but luckily in nearly 20 years of work I only personally had to handle a couple of overly touchy feely attendees. Usually simply moving up next to them and mentioning how long the line is so can they please move it along is all that's needed, sometimes a gentle hand on a shoulder does the job, lol.
Basically your job is to be the bad guy. You're the one who prevents the attendee getting their selfie in the hotel corridor with the actor, while all along, as the actor makes sad faces and apologies to the person you know they asked you to make sure no one took pics with them, LOL :D It also helped if you made sure you were visible, not hard for me, I am 6'4 and back then built like a brick shit house, lol, and we always wore smart black suits with security plastered somewhere. That alone tended to subdue anyone who thought they might get away with something.
Yeah, I saw a couple of pics that overzealous fans took with female wrestlers, and you could tell they weren't happy and beyond uncomfortable.
Robert England, the actor who plays Freddy, usually has a paid guard standing behind him at the table.
I wonder what happened.
Hard work, dedication and knowing your worth. No matter what you do, that's always good advice.
It's always interesting to learn how much work people put into these things. Thank you for sharing Snarky Jay.
When you mentioned your social battery draining, I could totally relate. Us introverts need our alone time to recharge.
@@ElChuntyCabra well good for you! Happy June!🌈
Great content as usual Jay! Love seeing more of the behind the scenes CosPlay action. I'm amazed at the creativity and talent you demonstrate in each of your creations! Thanks so much for sharing this side of things! All the best!
the insights jay provides are informative to listen to & can help show us the other side of subjects such as cosplay con’s etc
Straight Respect for all Cosplayers! After seeing the hard word you all do at MegaCon! Awesome work!
Thank you for giving us a behind-the-scenes to your cosplay work /job. It was very informative.
Well done, and put together, video. Thanks Jay.
Amazing. Insightful to see everything that goes into one of these. I get this as a workshop tutor. No one sees the hours of prep to deliver a 3 hour workshop. Thank you for sharing. Reminds me of all the work we put in for conventions to sell our books. 🎉
Snark, thanks for sharing this video. It is cool to see what it entails. Keep the videos coming. Gracias Hermosa
It definitely is hard work and you are amazingly good at what you do! Thanks for everything.
Who ever says this ain't work is wrong ty snarky for sharing
Very informative, thank you. As someone who interviews tons of Cosplayers, I think this will help those on the outside looking in to have a more compassionate understanding.
Love your dedication Snarky, don’t hurt yourself okay, have fun ❤❤❤
I applaud all fellow Mustang owners because we learned to fit just about anything in our rides. I've managed to fit a lawnmower in my '17 GT. I figured out a way to pack wood and more in these things. For sure a Tetris challenge in itself. Much respect to you. Heck, can barely fit kids in the back seats!
Thanks for making this video! Very informative!
I really enjoyed the insight. Thanks for sharing ❤
Happy Friday Jay and thank you for sharing your story with us.
just because you arent melting in sweat near a grill or breaking your back in a warehouse with no heat or AC doesnt mean it isnt work. you have great ethic and devotion to your chosen job and love for your audience and that is very honorable and genuine. So thankyou for being that type of person, its rare so keep up the great work
Simp alert
try working construction. youre insane.
I know next to nothing about Cosplying, comics, Anime but your personality really shines in your videos. You're making me a fan 😊
Thank you for a behind the scenes look at what you go through at these events.. keep on keeping on🤙
Hey man, that’s pretty awesome. Thanks to you and all the other men and women out there that bring the stuff to life and brings joy to our life! High five!
Love your work. Love your ideas and opinion
My sons were all Boy Scouts, and they would hand out water bottles at Dragon Con in Atlanta, Ga. after the parade. We were given day passes and it amazed me how much people put into these costumes. Hats off to you.
The best way to start a day is with Jay!
Wow, had no idea how much work goes into this, thanks for sharing.
You're definitely very talented, much much respect to you & your grind!!
This was super informative. Makes me appreciate your work, and other cosplayers much more. Keep up the good work!
An interesting look at how it all goes down. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Was happy to meet you at Megacon 2 years ago. Thanks for taking to time to talk about my Ghostface cosplay. I now take it to every con i go to. Cosplaying is harder than most people realize and i usually only do it one day. Great video Jay!
I always appreciate the ones that make their own customs and props. I have helped my sister many times make Holloween props, it is alot of work. Great job Snarky!!!!🤘🤘🤘
You're def a hard worker and there for all the fans. Kudos and props to you for putting in the hard work to do it right.
i've been to a lot of cons over the years, and have to admit, the level of craft put-together of cosplayer costumes are awesome! without a doubt, it's hard work and you and others make it look easy(even though truly tough), much props and respect!
OMG that was so eye opening! The dedication and hard work you put out!😱 Much love to you and your craft 😁 I found you with your great movie reviews 🤗 great
I agree I have done a couple small cons near me as a guest and the prep is a lot of work. The meeting and interacting with people is the reward most people are pretty chill. Great video and keep up your awesome cosplays!!
Can really see the joy in that picture with the pannel
thank you for sharing this info with us.
I like that VTubers and Cosplay channels get brought to the shows. It's definitely a fun attraction and from what I've seen at conventions it's a hit. Great prices on your prints! I'd definitely get the Catwoman with the goggles.
Thank for all your Cosplay videos content entertaining and useful
This was a really interesting video! Thanks!
I learned from this one. Thanks - very enjoyable!
I greatly empathize for guests like you, because I've helped run a convention. Even if you were coming to my area I would hesitate being your liaison at the con -because of the work it involves...
Great vid and I feel your pain. I'm an indie SFF author (actually working a con this weekend) and we go through much of the same grueling steps with moving books, tables, varying degrees of guest status accomondations, long days etc. Keep up the great work.
Its good to be passionate about your work. You are an artist, creative in many ways. Kudos to you.
This is great insight on how it is to be a guest at a con. I help my friend be a guest at cons all the time and its definitely exhausting lol also its weird but I think this is the first time for me not hearing Jay at the end say "Thats all for me IVE BEEN SNARKYJAY" and just sat thats all from me and leads into thank you so much for watching.
Snarkycon 2024!! Make it happen people lol 😂
This is great stuff! Stumbled on to your content about the acolyte (which totally sucks btw). Always wanted to Play a Disney Character at the parks, but never gave it a shot. It's really cool to see your invested time and hard work. Definitely a new follower. Thanks!!
This is totally work! You are awesome!
Respect. Love ur cosplay skills. You have major talent! I had a taste of attending Comic-con San Diego in 2014 and was blown away with the costumes there. Iv also attended a small con here in NZ in Tauranga in 2018 and cosplayed as Aquaman. Put in a tonne of work and enjoyed being a 'famous' character for a day but can totally relate to the work that goes into a costume and getting it to an event. Keep up the amazing work.
Jay, it IS a job! What you demonstrated is a dedication to provide a great experience for attendees and a work ethic many employers wish their employees exhibited. As a former full time professional musician and teacher (symphony and jazz) I can attest that what you are doing is A JOB. I can’t remember now how many times people said to me “It must be great to have your hobby be your job.” It was my career, not my hobby.
Do what you love. It kept me going at one job for 52 years.
I've been going to Megacon the last few years, and it exhausts me just as an attendee. I can only imagine being a guest there. I've never met you, but if we're both there next time, I'll definitely keep an eye out for your table. Meeting celebrities is cool and all, but some of the best times I've had there is meeting CZcams creators and artists.
Is Started going to San Deigo Comic con because I wanted to see all the Cosplays. Its great to see all the hard work people put in to make it fun for us attending. This video just makes me appreciate cosplay more knowing the hard work people put into it and getting it there to wear lol.
I've attended quite a number of cons, and spent a few years volunteering for a few of them, mostly in "guest relations". My job was to make sure my assigned guest, usually a VIP, got where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there, and provide them transportation between appearances. Sometimes, I worked their dealer table with them, which could be really fun, and it warmed my heart when Yvonne Craig (TV's Batgirl) trusted me to operate her cash till. I've had some interesting times with some really interesting people, and have too many stories to tell for just one comment. Seeing this video reminds me of those days, and I have to say that I appreciate all the effort that you put into your work.
Thanks for taking us inside the guest world. That was interesting.
Its a fun dream to follow for sure. You never know what will happen when you put yourself out there. I subbed to you because you have a way about you, keep it up young lady!
Well, Ms. Snarkyjay, you've got quite the talent major props to you it seems you got quite the passion for it based on the amount of time you put in. I'm sure it will pay off in a big way.😊🙏🏿
Dayuummmnnnnn Snarky!!!!!! Respect ⬆️1000000000.
Didn't know this was that cool a thing. Hv u always been socially extroverted with PPL or was that something that u had to overcome. Coz that's something I could really dream of having the confidence of doing.
Definitely something I had to overcome. And it’s very much a switch I have to flip for work. I’m not that person IRL
I REALLY enjoyed this informative video
Great video, Snarks...👍
Wow I am impressed with your commitment I hope you get the notoriety you deserve
It's always interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes, not always glamorous obviously.
Man it's all good you work hard on what you do keep up the good work 👍🏼😁😁
The joy fitting all the costume in a car. I was often removing the passenger seats to gain some space. One time with a stick shift car I had to bump my shoulder into a shield every time I wanted to change speed to give enough space to change gear.
That is an interesting insight on all the effort that pro cosplayers put into con appearances. I haven't approached a cosplayer's personal(?) booth nor followed any particular cosplayer, but now I think I appreciate your (i.e. cosplayer's) love for the art more. I'll try to say hi and maybe support them next time I visit a con :)
I've only recently started wearing a costume when I visit comic con events for fun (twice so far), but I know that carrying the costume parts and accessories from parking to some area/bathroom near the event (to put them on) is a chore. But for me at least, those are times that I can let my inner nerd out :p
I respect your hard work Jay, have a great weekend 😊
You are my favorite CZcams nerd host! I learn so much from you!
Hey thank you for sharing. You look fantastic!! Wow!! So much talent and skill and clearly effort. Great job.
Maybe I'll meet you in person one day at one of these conventions (in Florida), but they are all so overly crowded now. I used to take my daughter, but they just sucked the energy out of both of us. Now that she is entering her final teen years, she won't go with me. But maybe in a few years, she'll come back around and we can both meet you!!
I feel your pain girl .....I have cosplayed as an Attendee a few times and that in itself is like a job . I've been batman, scarecrow and chrome skull and just walking around taking pictures and even being asked to sign stuff as the character can be Exhausting. I have kept in touch with some of the folks I've meet while cosplaying and you ladies work very hard. Most people have no clue how hard it is to make and dress up and feel like your walking around in a leather oven . So thank you for the work you do to entertain us and hopefully I'll see you at one of the conventions here in Texas .
Respect.
You are the best.
I love your reviews,
A lifehack for setting up the banners: 1. Hook up the banner to the hook while it is in the low position; 2. Take the telescope hook up. Easier for you, but takes away an opportunity from some lucky guy to give you a hand. ;)
I was hoping you make an appearance at the C2E2 in Chicago this. year. Either way love the channel. Stay Snarky!
I love this video. Being a guest is work and is also a blast. I've met some phenomenal people through guesting. It's definitely not for everyone lol! Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Hope to do a con with you someday Snarky!
Couldn't agree more!
It is awesome meeting you at Megacon. You always tell it like it is.
I did trade shows. Same as conventions. They are worse than a regular day of work. Changing shoes before leaving the convention center is mandatory. Pads for where you stand is a game changer. Rolling fold up carts are also awesome.
I just did my first con 2 years ago at the RangerStation (a power rangers con) in Philly. It was pretty fun but as I dive back into building, im looking to do more. This video is gonna be helpful, thanks!
You are so talented, hardworking, creative, intelligent and sweet! I would give you whatever you wanted to grace my con!!
I got to meet you at that MegaCon. I know a lot of work goes into cosplaying and you do a great job at it. Keep up the fantastic work.
You do it for the love of it... The same with me as a Clan Scott Society state commissioner and the Highland games I attend. You love what you do...
Very nice video Jay I would love to meet you just to say hello and I'm glad to have been able to get to know you over the year a going.keep up the great work ❤❤❤
What we need is a comic so we can meet Snarky lol😁😁
The cons are usually packed with people trying to do just as you want. So your chance to see her are very slim and if you do your Time with her will be very short.
@@arthurweise2573 does @snarkjay have #cameo ?
I don't know what a simps is but I was just making a comment of what it's like at the cons nothing more. They are fun to go to but if you've never been then just be aware how many people are going to be there.
Haha, hope I get to meet more of you guys soon! And to acknowledge what @arthurwise2573 has said, I’ve literally had people drop by my table and hang out for 20-30 minutes because they’ve felt like it. I don’t push people away.
I went to the Comic-Con like 25 years ago with two of my sons one was dressed like Superman the girls were all over him and the other one was dressed like Spider-Man and he was jumping around like a Power Ranger but some of those guys like dude what's your problem and some of the girls like oh crap quit looking they're hot😮😢😅😂😂😂😂😂
Great video and informative
“So this is where the fun begins” 😅
I need to go to these events. Looks fun.
A very interesting video, thanks kindly. I am also a geek, but I don't have the skills (or figure) to do cosplay. I didn't realize it was so much work. I have been around some Star Wars 501st types, but I didn't truly realize all the hard work it takes. I haven't seen a video with this sort of content and I found it very interesting. You're awesome, keep up the great content.
Great comic-con insights, just started watching Con Man with Alan Tudyk...
For about 20yrs the Mrs. and I did Civil War Reenacting, I get your vid hands down. As the years went by I started to portray Gen. Morgan. I would go to these events that went for 3 day, Friday-Sunday. We men dressed in wool, cotton, and leather. (leather being boots, belts and such..) Walking about as the Gen. and on Sat and Sun would be giving talks and getting pics with folks. The hot summer sun dancing on us was always fun. (pushing water like a fish..) Yep, get your vid indeed. Really enjoyed.
Happy Friday Jay 🥳
I've gone to a bunch o video game cons and been either staff or a vendor. It's a lot of work and long days. But going to a con as a guest is certainly a good deal more effort.
Great vid Jay, love to see how it is for people of importance at cons.
Thanks for sharing
