Imagine what it is like for those of us out of the US. It depends on the value it brings us Cathy. The R6 II same price as R6. RF 200-800 lower than expected. C400 lower than expected. To ask an additional $400, they must be packing something wonderful into it.

@OrdinaryFilmmaker I'm sure the $400 more since the original R5 will be well worth it. The newer AF alone and stacked sensor makes it worth it. I am surprised, though, at the price considering what the Z8 costs. I'll still go on the wait list if I like what I see in the morning.

@@cathco9 Until I owned the R3, I thought I needed a stacked sensor, too. I really like the no-blink EVF. But the R5 mechanical shutter is so quiet and so fast (and so free of rolling shutter) that I no longer feel the need for a stacked sensor. The R3's stacked sensor can still fall prey to rolling shutter distortion. If the R5ii's stacked sensor isn't faster than the R3's, it won't be the answer to rolling shutter issues.

The Z8 lists for $3999 but is on sale for $3500 at Nikon USA. I know Canon will sell all they can produce because people like me have a large investment in lenses but I haven’t seen anything so far that justifies a higher price plus the Z8 does ProRes and isn’t even a new camera now. Canon shooters better hope these specs and prices are wrong - both are very disappointing.
The Z9 with its newest FW remains a better camera than the proposed R1 and it is $800 cheaper (at retail) and literally almost 3 years old. The proposed R5II is $800 more than the Z8 (current price) and it seems to be in no way superior and the Z8 is itself 1.5 years old.
Realistically, there will be a Z9II in like 12 to18 months - these Canon offerings will age badly and be old news very quickly. Hopefully for all of us, these rumors are wrong and these cameras are more substantial than what you are reporting. I like when Canon and Nikon one up each other as it pushes each of them to further innovate - I fear these proposed cameras will let Nikon just rest on their current offerings as they are already better for all intents and purposes than these in spite of being 1-3.5 years old.

Basically anyone with an R3 would be safer sticking with the R3 and looking at the R5mkii if they want similar performance with additional megapickles. The R1 will really only attract those still working with the 1dx range who have restrained themselves from going mirrorless. Canon had the opportunity to really go to town with the R1 given the success of the R3, but they've only improved it in the usual incremental step which is somewhat disappointing.

I wondered back when the r3 came out as if it was initially supposed to be the r1, but the a1 knocked canon on their heels, then the z9 also kicked it up a notch, and they could t make the r1 24mp.
But now that they are talking that it’s just 24 mp, it would basically just be an r3ii, not an r1.
I see the r5 series to be a better flagship camera, as it’s better for the general photographer, like the a1, whereas the r1 is more along the super niche lines of the a9iii.

You can say it might have 8k raw (filesize fun) at 60p but thats a very small group of people who need that and sony has a rather full video/film lineup (as canon does) to compete. Canon and Sony should have good video in cameras like this but it should never be the 'selling' feature really thats why they have video lineups. And if you take that out both the R5II but more the R1 looks like a 'meh' camera to many esp. after years of teasing and waiting. As to 8k 60p - again, no. And again, it's a near 4 year old camera. When the A1II comes out, it'll again smack the Canon offerings.
