The next port on our journey is Cartagena. In the city on the Costa Calida in southeastern Spain, there are countless buildings of Spanish Modernist architecture and the largest Roman theater on the Iberian Peninsula.
We booked the official AIDA excursion CTG 01 today. A walking tour of the city followed by a panoramic tour by bus. The first stop of the excursion is at the beautiful city hall of Cartagena. Located directly at the harbor, you could already see the building from the ship. A few alleys further we go to the Roman theater from 44 BC - an imposing building that could seat up to 7,000 spectators.
Then we climb the "Cerro de la Concepcíon", a hill in the middle of the city area, where the remains of the "Castillo de la Concepcíon" are located. From here you have an excellent panoramic view of the entire city.
Back in the old town we walk along the "Calle Mayor". The pedestrian street across the old town from the port and town hall to the Plaza San Sebastián. The street is famous for the beautiful Art Nouveau houses built at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
Before we leave shortly after sunset, we are allowed one more probably very exotic sighting: A submarine enters the harbor. After all, Cartagena is the largest Spanish military port on the Mediterranean.
Shortly before us, the Amera leaves the harbor, we join her and make our way to Valencia. The last port of our trip.
This video belongs to the tour "Spain, Portugal & Canary Islands 1", on which we have been on the road with AIDAstella in November 2021. The trip leads from Palma de Mallorca via Cádiz to Lisbon and from there via Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Málaga, Cartagena and Valencia back to Palma de Mallorca.
