  • A live performance of Samuel Crossman & John Ireland's beautiful Passiontide hymn: 'My Song is Love Unknown'. The day before churches were shut down in Sydney, we very quickly recorded, with a very reduced and socially-distanced St Andrew's Cathedral Choir, several well-known hymns and psalms. We hope to share more shortly. We hope that you find them all useful in this difficult time when churches are unable to meet. Please feel free to share this or incorporate it in your online act of worship by downloading it. There is no copyright due, if you use it for your online services during this time. If we can help your scattered congregation, then we are really grateful. Please put an acknowledgement where it is from: 'Courtesy of St Andrew's Cathedral & Choir, Sydney, Australia'.

I found this video on Good Friday of 2020, when everything was shut down here in the States. This song had been a staple of the Good Friday service at my church so I searched CZcams and found this. I still find myself returning to view it each year now. A truly wonderful performance and such a time capsule of those nervous early days of the pandemic.

Wonderful that the Cathedral had such a saving idea... though there is no doubt as to the original source of that idea! Love the way the text presents the hymn as that of Crossman and John Ireland - since their activity was separated by several centuries! Mr Ireland (whose life did not run smoothly in any way) took just a few minutes to write the tune... On the back of a restaurant menu! And so was perfection achieved and God's purpose attained through the beloved, enigmatic, innovative and visibly active Holy Spirit! The Paraclete's many and diiverse works all serve the enhancement of Discipleship, and spotting and proclaiming them is my joy and purpose since being Born Again on 28-2-21...

When I feel like I am drifting apart from God, it just takes one of these hymns sung in the Anglican tradition and I am dragged back willingly to God’s loving Grace.

I ararted my Palm Sunday listening to choristers under Ross Cobb's able direction singing a beautiful and well know hymn in the sacred setting of St Andrew's cathedral. My heart-felt thanks to them.

Our organist in this recording is Sam, our senior organ scholar, and our Organ is a Thomas Hill instrument, built in 1867, and rebuilt in 1998 by Orgues Letourneau of Canada.
