  • Tahiti is back! Thankfully with a relatively simple repair. She's been sitting for a few weeks as I daily drive the Escalade to iron some of the kinks out. I went to drive her last weekend and the battery was completely dead. Sure enough after a jump-start I noticed the radio was staying on after closing the doors and locking the truck. I knew right away what the issue was, so today we're going to fix it.

For my fellow Tahoe brethren please make sure your stereo is hooked up to the correct power wire! I've repaired a lot of stereos that were accidentally hooked into the factory amp causing it to stay on and discharge the battery!

If you use the proper harness from Metra or PAC the accessory/rap wire come from the J1850 wire through a module. If the person is too cheap to buy the correct harness we dont do the work. This is obviously for an aftermarket stereo.

your comment about the rust at the 10:00 mark really hits home if you get a little bit further north of where you're at. I'm in Southern Vermont, and up here all of these little things that you've identified as issues with these vehicles, for the most part don't show up as often because our shitboxes rotted off the road before a lot of those issues pop up. GMT800s aren't very common anymore and now even GMT900s are fairly rare around here already, and when you do see one, it's rotted nearly to death. I'm already starting to see GMT K2XX trucks with some rot up here.

  • @Large_Sarge
    @Large_Sarge Před 3 měsíci +9

GMT800s are really good trucks. No DOD in the engines to grenade lifters. Really simple and affordable to work on. A few issues like grounds, abs, and rusty brake lines and other things but overall solid vehicles. Thanks for the content.❤

I agree every single gmt800 I’ve bought has never gave up on me and never left me for dead the only thing that’s suck is how easy it is for thieves to drill the gas tank I had My’n drilled they ended up drilling 4 holes cause I always have my gmt800 really low on gas just for this reason and I guess the thieve got mad that is wasn’t draining fast enough so he drilled 4 big holes I ended up buy a used gas tank on offer up for 60$ and replaced and she fired up again lol take that homeless thiefs

I saw a few of these body style trucks is the gauge cluster will cause battery drain. To see, disconnect/unhook your gauge cluster overnight to see. Also check the underside of your fuse box under the hood driver side

I subbed originally because of Tahiti and really enjoyed seeing the repair progress, off road stuff, then even back to stock was cool. As these get older, it's going to be harder to find them stock....so your back to stock content is still really relatable. I got super lucky snagging my single owner 2004 z71 Tahoe with 75k miles back in 2020 for $6,500. I've learned HP Tuners and did the efans with OEM fan relay harness and oem fans, the gmt 900 brake upgrade, and a lot of other similar repairs as you, like water pump and knock sensors. Im about your age and this is the first vehicle in my life out of 7 or 8 that I have kept so stock on purpose and love it that way.
The only non factory "mods" are are some hub centric 1.25" wheel spacers on factory size tires and those beautiful 04 z71 wheels, just to give it less tucked in tires look. It's not something many would notice, which is the perfect look I wanted. Its almost time for new tires and I am still going with factory size because with the 3.73 gears she was optioned with, she scoots surprisingly well and I know from experience those low gears and factory size tires are the main reason why....plus the amateur HP tuning I did (was not going to just use it for Efans are you kidding, lol)

Update parking brake to the same one used in the 2010 Tahoe version. There is a Big difference in how well the 2010 parking brake works over the one on my 2004. I replaced ALL the parking brake components to new GM parts, it improved but still the parking brake on the 2004 barely passes inspection every year. The best shops I go to in my town say there is no better adjustment they all suck. But the 2010 components in the 2010 Tahoe I drive at work is perfect and strong.

My Dad bought a 1977 Lincoln Grand Marque' new, with leather seats. He used Goop Brand hand cleaner to clean the leather. He would scrub for a good while on every section of the seats with a shop towel. Not sure a micro fiber towel would work because it would be to soft, and a shop towel is more course. A little dab will do ya. You want it to sort of "dry up" as you're rubbing it in. This makes the product "tacky" and will grab hold of the dirt and "lift it out of the seat". Just like with any hand cleaner I have used on my hands, I have found that using less works better. Then just wipe off with a soft damp rag and let dry.

Most of my trucks have had leather seats. The key to keeping them looking good is to make sure you clean them and especially use the conditioner/protectant on them AT LEAST every six months. I do mine every 4 months. I use “Chemical guys” cleaner, followed by the protectant. The protectant seals the leather, so dirt and grime can’t get into the grain of the leather. Unfortunately, I think Tahiti’s ship has sailed, on the driver seat bottom…. At least you can still get a hold of the seat replacement cover for ridiculously cheap prices! I recently had to do the bottom, back and armrest of my ‘04 Crew cab duallys Ebony leather seats. They did hold up for almost 400,000 miles….

The previous owner of my 05 Suburban Z71 4x4 did not take care of the engine. It had 350k miles when i bought it, supposedly the trans was rebuilt less than 1 year before I bought it, trans is working great so far. The engine is tired tho. Smokes blue under hard acceleration and lacks power. Im going with new replacement long block. My question is should i go back with a new 5.3L or should i opt for the 6.0L? I plan on doing long distance towing of future project vehicles that will need complete restoration/building/mods. Heavy boats like 60s Impalas and Cadillacs. Picked Burb up for just $2300 online after watching Tahiti. I plan to overland it and simple camp inside of it. I also found an 07 Yukon SLT 4x4 for just $2500 that will be my daily "bro build" lifted 37s" cadillac taillights(going for modern take on the 70s-80s K5 gen with steelies no stance wheels, until i get another econobox maybe older impala, been thinking LS4 swapping one and making it bulletproof due to weak FWD. What harness did you use to integrate into the vehicle? The Metra/Axxess harness has a dial on the interface box to turn the chime down and the Pac module either has a separate little tiny chime module you could wrap in a chunk of carpet or disconnect if you dont want any chimes. On some of the older modules theres a black/yellow wire from the module that you tap to ground as its dinging and you keep tapping it until you get the desired volume. It was to control Onstar volume as well

Check the dome light override button on the same panel, make sure it is popped out

As stated, check the dome override switch by the headlight switch if none of the doors turn on the dome lights. But yes, the door trigger wire is built into the latches on these. No plunger style

Don’t know if anyone makes them new. I would try ebay or a junkyard for used.

In my opinion, those “seat shop“ seat covers are such a big scam. I got ones off of eBay for like 60 bucks. They color match and they have lasted over a year with no issues. They look amazing. I feel like the seat shop is all about the marketing. I would never spend so much… and look they did not even hold up under heavy wear..

I hate working inside doors. I cussed my way through this same repair. Why not a module with a plunger mounted inside the vehicle down by the ebrake

You put an awful lot of Amazon pots on your vehicles. You better be careful cuz it's all garbage
