Hi Alex, I have what may be a dumb questions, but i'll ask it anyway! I am a 45 year old mum of two living in the UK, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer 10 years ago and who hasn't worked for 10 years. Long story short i'm still not dead and don't plan to be any time soon contrary to what I was told, sooooo.......I will be returning to work this year and hopefully thanks to your amazing channel going back as a Data Analyst (I was previously an IT Project Manager in to financial services (a pretty clueless one at that)). My strategy for completeness is to watch all your videos through once (check), then once more making notes to embed (just finished the excel series), then to go through them all and do the practical aspect and practice the skills, then get online certifications in these areas and then volunteer to work for free for a month or so in any local organisations who may need someone to tidy up their data etc to get some practical in house experience and then go through the interview job searching aspect. So firstly thank you so much for giving me hope there is an after children career for me that I can grow and build on over the next 20 years of employability. So after my long preamble to show you what kinds of different lives of the people you are reaching out to. Is there a reason there is not intermediate or advanced video's for Excel in the toolkit? Thank you in advance for your reply and again, thank you very much for you kindness of spirit and generosity as I could never afford to pay for these courses myself and would therefore still be stumped and scratching around for bit's and bob's here and there. Man, I was planning to start the google certification but I feel that this series on Excel is something I should do first in order to be in good shape for the next venture, that google one or otherwise. Thanks for everything you are doing on your channel.
I found Google is good for theory and problem-solving within teams but not so much with hardcore skills. That's why I too am taking Alex's bootcamp and supplementing it with Google Certificate. But at the end of the day, the skills, project building, and networking will get you a job not a certificate.
Today I have just finished the SQL series which is very beneficial for me as a computer science student , and that I have never understood sql in uni or college but all thanks to you , and now I'm just starting this excel series and of course the SQL project is for my weekend

Yet another great video. This is something that for some reason looked like it was really difficult to do (pivot tables), but understand them much better now, and can definitely use this when I'm trying to organize my data from SQL queries that I write. Well done, again!
Now i have serious question , what is the deffrince between the piviot table in excel and the sql ?? ecpecially ecpecially when we use both case statment and aggrigate function at the same time ??
Thanks Alex for this tutorial! Something I have been having a hard time with is using the calculated field function in a pivot table for more advanced calculations. Is it possible to use functions (such as IF statements) in the calculated field? Are there specific limitations you are aware of in pivot tables? Thanks!
i know this is super late, but i believe you could create a new column in your original data set using your IF statement, and then from there using that new column in the pivot table. i think it would depend on your desired outcome/data if this would work or not!
Saw this comment on the lower comments but this helped me: Select the cell, range, or entire column that contains the text values that you want to split. On the Data tab, in the Data Tools group, click Text to Columns. Follow the instructions in the Convert Text to Columns Wizard to specify how you want to divide the text into separate columns.
Hello Alex Thank you for taking your time to explain all of this. I watched your video on cleaning data in Excel and I was wondering why you didn't filter and remove duplicate in the data set we used in this video. Was there any particular reason?

Speaking from all the way from the Caribbean. I'm hoping to transition into this field soon by refining skills, building a portfolio and reaching out to a mentor. I was wondering though, because I'm not based in the US, are remote data analyst jobs available or would I need to do more freelancing to work with companies there ?

I think trying to work through a contracting company is a great idea - freelancing is possible, but can be challenging to get your own clients.
