See how simple things resonate better? Cody's "I wanna win this for my dad." Roman's "You don't have what it takes to carry this burden." Seth's "I wanna be on Wrestlemania." Bryan's "I'm not just a B+ player". Simple, easy to understand and easy to get behind, if only WWE and AEW do this more often lol.

That's the problem. It used to be one (or two) guys setting the direction and the wrestlers themselves would be the ones filling the gaps, so it came across as halfway real.

For anyone who doesn't get the 'brown M&M's' reference, it is an old Van Halen reference. Back in the last 70s and early 80s when they toured, they sent a list of requests to the venues to tell them what they needed. Not flashy rockstar demands, it was a list of how the stage and the electrical should be hooked up and where. Back then, not every venue was up to code, and they had to make sure that their gear would work. So to make sure they actually read the list, and not just ignored it, they threw in the 'no brown M&M's' clause. So if they went backstage, and saw a bowl of M&M's with no browns in them, then they were pretty sure the venue actually read their list. If they saw browns in the bowl, they would have to go out and double check everything to make sure they did it right.

I see how Seth Rollins fits into the big picture of Cody Rhodes' journey to the WWE Championship (not the Unified Championship). The key to making a lot of money on Cody Rhodes' journey to the WWE Championship is the long chase. Remember that Cody Rhodes's journey is all about his father, Dusty Rhodes.
Jim Cornette overlooked Seth Rollins' history with Dusty Rhodes. Dusty taught Seth Rollins how to become a WWE superstar when Rollins was in development, and you can bet Rollins views Dusty as a father figure. When Dusty was still alive, he Tweeted a picture of Seth Rollins and declared that Rollins was a future WWE Champion. You can bet that Tweet will be factored into the feud, as well as Seth Rollins winning the WWE Championship in 2014 while Cody Rhodes was languishing as Stardust.
As for the WWE Championship, I can picture Cody Rhodes winning a #1 contender match for the Unified Championship for Summerslam. Meanwhile, Set Rollins wins the the Money in the Bank that only allows him to choose one world championship. While Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns beat the hell out of each other at Summerslam, Seth Rollins cashes in the Money in the Bank contract to make it a Triple Threat Match (like he did to Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 31) specifically for the WWE Champsionship. Rollins will pin Cody Rhodes to win the WWE Championship as a screwy way to get the WWE Championship off Roman Reigns without Reigns actually taking the loss, and keeping Reigns' reign of terror as Universal Champion intact.
With Rollins as WWE Champion and a complete maniac, the mind games will truly begin. Rollins can easily make the feud personal by referring to himself as the son Dusty always wanted (especially that world championship prediction Tweet), and remind Cody Rhodes about how much of a failure Cody was to the family name while Rollins was succeeding. Rollins will put up obstacles that prevent Cody Rhodes from winning the WWE Championship for awhile, which eventually forces Cody Rhodes to fight his way back into Championship contention. Either Cody Rhodes will win the Royal Rumble or a #1 contender match in the Elimination Chamber so he can get to Seth Rollins at Wrestlemania 39, where Cody Rhodes journey to the WWE Championship can reach its conclusion. This will be a lot like the redemption arc set up for Bianca Belair when she finally took down Seth Rollins' wife.

Cody Rhodes has mentioned on a few interviews. Even official WWE ones. That the decision to stay out of the world title picture in AEW was a huge mistake that he didn't think through because he handicapped his career and he knew he was never going to go anywhere in AEW because of that one decision. And that is why it wasn't that difficult to walk away.
He said that if he decided to change it and get himself back into the title picture would be a disservice to the fans and AEW. So the only way he would ever be a World Champion was to go to the WWE, Japan, or any other promotion. But the offer by Vince was better than good. So he didn't have to think hard to make the decision to jump. And one of the things that also contributed to him going was the Dusty Rhodes documentary that would tell the true story, good an bad, the WWE is producing and he said even the parts that paint the WWE in a negative light was also agreed to.

Even simpler, Tony Khan has already said a number of times that Cody's stipulation that he would never wrestle for the AEW Title again was CODY'S stipulation and AEW officially did not acknowledge this. Cody turns heel and challenges for the belt, breaking his word. Easy, done. But Cody just didn't want to turn heel I guess.
Not that I blame Cody for jumping ship to WWE, he's probably making a shitload of money and he's finally going to achieve his real dream, plus his style of pageantry and over the top nature is something WWE fans will like.

      @2Phaktz Před 2 lety +11

He booked himself as the territory babyface, but had no foil whatsoever among the sea of talent that hasn't been on major network television. He had no way of interjecting himself into Jericho-Moxley with Omega waiting in the wings. MJF wasn't ready to compete for the title.
Taking a shortcut and cutting himself off at the knees as a replacement for a heel foil seemed noble if it was going somewhere. He had to be heel to break that promise. The fans resented the presentation, being smart enough to know he could play the EVP card and get to the title easily. He refused to do it, which led to him being trapped in a box and ping ponging the TNT title. He made a good business decision in leaving. AEW didn't need him anymore since there was already a show going on with decent storylines and young talent getting over outside of the Cody-verse. By the end of his run, he was under a mask tagging with a jobber on AEW Dark. It was time. He will probably return to get his flowers in his post-WWE run in a few years.

Guys... I'll tell you excatly what's been going on with Cody Rhodes these last few years. Cody doesn't want to do wrestling anymore. He'll wrestle, sure. But what he really wants now, at this point of his life, is to be a celebrity. He wants to be famous outside of wrestling. It makes perfect sense.
    1. He boxed himself with that AEW world title stipulation cause being world champion wasn't his end game.
    2. That weekly open challenge for the TV tile was for him to get exposure. To be watched every week getting win after win after win and just building momentum for himself.
    3. The reason he kept disappearing was to do "mainstream" projects. Appearances on Arrow, being a judge on Go-Big Show, starring in his own reality tv series. This is exactly what Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, the Bellas did to get them mainstream outside of wrestling.
    4. He went back to the WWE because everyone I just mentioned became celebrities with the WWE's backing. That's most likely what he wanted from the Khans and they said "no". Tony's main focus was wrestling and everything else was minimal and I believe that's why Cody left. Cause they weren't going to help him become a celebrity outside of wrestling.
    5. That's why Cody didn't want to turn heel. Cause he would be less marketable in show-business if people "hated his character". Everyone I previously mentioned we're getting pushed in their outside projects when they were baby faces.
    6. His bad booking with Anthony Ogogo, Aleister Black, Andrade El Idolo, were the results of Cody being shoehorned in to a story line. Because he didn't have much to do outside of wrestling, he would go back to AEW to continue getting exposure. But because he would come and go so often, Tony wasn't able to make consistant story lines that made sense for him so he would let Cody do what Cody wanted.
It all makes so much sense. Cody Rhodes wants to be a celebrity. He wants to be famous outside of wrestling. Pure and simple.

Cody is the one thing that will bring me back to Raw. It's been years since I watched an episode. I've been a fan of Cody since day one though. I was always annoyed that they made the Legacy angle more about Orton and DiBiase; probably just because DiBiase was physically bigger. It was plain to see who was more talented. It became more evident when Cody went Dashing.

Idk go look at matches with the legacy you can hear Ted had more heat and fans were ready to se him square off with orton watch the pops in 2010.

Dibiase was bigger and Orton is Orton. That no kneepads Cody was as generic as it gets. I'd almost bet since he was the underdog of the three you rooted for him. Dashing Cody and Broken Cody was awesome tho.
