      @BentJackson  Před rokem +1

      I made them. I have made a few sets over the years. One set I made from thin plastic sheeting used to make signs (bought from sign shop). The second set I found some old BMX wheel covers (much sturdier) those I covered with carbon sticky backed vinyl that you can get at an automotive store. I also did a set you may see on an even older video (red ones). I used heat shrink plastic film from a hobby store used to make RC plane wings. Those looked great but were tougher to work with and fragile when rocks and twigs hit them.

    Without the need for carrying baggage, I would like to see how well I could keep up on a TRIOT trike. I won't be able to test ride one till March. Their higher seats look like more comfortable for riding, but how much speed will have been sacrificed for that higher profile?

    • @BentJackson
      @BentJackson  Před 5 lety +1

      Higher seat angle will mean more wind resistance and slower cornering due to higher center of gravity.

      @@BentJackson The TRIOT trikes, Terra Trike Rover, and the HP Velotechnik Scorpion FS Plus have higher seats. The Scorpion Plus has a seat 22 1/2 inches above the ground. Hello, can I ask aquestion.
    Who's faster? to an ordinary person. Recumbent or road bike

    • @BentJackson
      @BentJackson  Před 4 lety

      That depends on many factors. Not all DF’s (diamond frame, road bikes are fast) not all recumbents are fast. That said with the same rider the recumbent will have a speed advantage due to aerodynamics over a standard upright bike. Typically the upright has an edge when climbing. The recumbent will be the easy winner in descending and of course comfort. Trikes even racing trikes will be slower because of weight and extra resistance from the third wheel than with a two wheel recumbent. An example is I have a Catrike 700 and I also ride a CruzBike Vendetta. The Vendetta is about 3 faster than when I ride my trike.

One Idea was to invite some other fast riders to join us and I was thinking you would be perfect with the QV. I think it would be fun if Doug Davis came too. We, of course couldn't stay with you unless you were just coasting! Do you know about the Arkansas Senior Games in Sept? They are allowing velos to race in their own category. Hello all, former cycling looking to come back and need info. looking at a cervelo s5 or I've vtx. YES I know they are apples an oranges so thats not in question. also I mean nooooo offense but im looking for input from posable cat 1/2 riders. a trike has an extra wheel of drag but is lower and flatter soooo if you have a solid cat 1/2 power plant would you be able to have the same level of club ride gear mashing fun???? I know a trike is not a sprint bike so thats off the table but say "bill" wants to jump of the front will you be able to get him with the same wats or around the same on a trike as with the cervelo or is that just out of the question? I don't mean to offend anyone its just that most info I come across is from older trike rider "age" or from some type of injury and im hopping to get a view from someone who can blow the watt meter out of the water lol. a lot of people say yes I keep up with a group ride and you see the picture or video and everyone is siting up so you know they are not at top heart rate. before I drop $$$$$$ im wanting to see if someone else has crossed this road and how it ended for them. Thank you for your time and input. Be well & stay safe.

    • @BentJackson
      @BentJackson  Před 3 lety

      Comparing a two wheel high end bike to a trike isn’t really fair. The two wheel will be faster in most situations. Fast trikes are fast but it takes more power to make the trike go as fast as the two wheels. As you said there is a third wheel and the extra weight of the wheel. If you were trying to decide between a conventional two wheel and a two wheel high racer recumbent it would make more sense. I have both, fast Catrike 700 and a CruzBike Vendetta. The Vendetta is faster than my trike but then it would also be faster than a conventional bike.

      @@seanmelvin5115 I enjoy the trike for fun riding not having to always keep focused on every imperfection in the road. I live my two wheel recumbent for it’s speed in all conditions. Trikes are less enjoyable in a bunch of uprights, mainly because they are so low to the ground. When you are in a pack following another rider where you look to keep your distance changes radically with a trike. When in a group of uprights on a trike you can’t see over riders to your sides, it’s like driving a car with semi’s all around. From what you said about your riding style and experience, my thought is you should be comparing a standard bike to a recumbent high racer.
