  • I am in love with my Prius which I got brand new in 2007. Here it is 9 years later and it still runs like new. Never had any issues with the battery which people guaranteed me I would. I love this car to pieces!
    If you have any questions, comment and I will happily respond.

    My first Prius was a 2005 which I bought used with 36K miles on it. I put another 240K for a total of 276K miles WITHOUT A SINGLE PROBLEM! As a traveling professional musician, I put about 50K miles per year just in business miles on my car, so, the gas mileage has saved me a ton of money. So, I traded the 2005 in for a used 2007 which now has 225K miles, same deal, NO PROBLEMS! Each one only needed ONE brake job during my ownership. I share your love for the Prius. Best cars I've ever owned. Incredibly reliable. Thanks for sharing your video!

      @PabloZelaya  Před 6 lety +2

      Hey Curtis, I'm a musician myself and I can relate 100%! I'm really considering an upgrade these days but I think I'll hold off at least until the spring. Having said that, I'm not a fan of the 2016 and newer body style so I would be looking at a 2015. I wish I could buy a new one but I wouldn't be happy with the boy style, simply don't like it so I either wait until they change it or get a 2015 which I do happen to like. I just saw a 2007 at my local CarMax with 56K miles for $11K but I like some of the new features or I would go for that one. As soon as I make a drastic decision like this I'll let everyone know. Congrats on the success and savings you've had on the Prius and keep it up!

    I feel the same way about my 2008 Prius that only has 127k miles on it. Best car I've ever owned. I'm amazed at how many people hate this car. I don't get it. On the plus side, it keeps the used car prices low. This generation of Prius (gen 2) is an easy car to work on, parts are cheap and it is well supported on the internet. Forget the fast cars. They'll never be fast enough. Thanks for sharing.

      Depending on what you use it for it could pay for itself far sooner than that. I deliver for Uber Eats, and my numbers are indicating that it will be net profit in a year(actually it's net profit already due to the car payment being less than my net gas savings per month)

      Most people hate it for the people who drive them. The car itself is decent, I’ve ridden on the same model lol. It just seems that most of the people who drive them don’t care about cars that much, and the people driving around them. (That’s the stereotype anyway.)

      Hey Pablo, when I use my iPad, I show up as The Ladies of Uke, that's my ukulele band. We got a one owner 2010 Prius, in white. One thing I miss about my Saturn is the comfy seats. I've never had lower back pain before, now I do. The only thing I ever replaced on it were tires, batteries, and one water pump. I was afraid to drive it 1200 miles to go visit my ageing Mom, but it never did break down on me. It used a lot of oil, too much gas, idled rough, and lost its paint, after 167K miles in the FL sun. I even wore out the CD player, but the AC worked as well as brand new. Instead of selling it, I donated it to our public radio station, WMNF 88.5 FM. I think the Prius is the car to go see Mom in, it will save us a ton in gas. It has 92K miles and we paid just over $14K with TTL out the door. Ours even has the solar roof panel and moon roof.
      I do not miss wasting gasoline!

    I'm a Honda fan, but after I had to voluntary repo my 2013 Honda Civic EX after I couldn't afford my lease payments, my aunt bought me a used 2006 Toyota Prius that had 176,000 miles on it for $4,500. The battery is in great condition, charges up fast, and I get up to 490 miles to a tank and only costs like $23-$25 to fill up at $2.80/gallon in California prices today. Unfortunately, the AC does not work, because there's a leak behind the dash in the evaporator core and will cost nearly $800 to repair, so I refused to fix it, but I hope my car lasts beyond 300,000 miles or at least another 10 years God willing.

    I’ve got a 2008 with over 200,000 miles on it. I also love mine, but there are a couple of caveats. I’m also on only my second set of brake pads. Regen braking really saves on brake wear! But when I needed new brake pads they told me I had so much corrosion on my rotors they needed replacement! Now I live in the frozen north where my brake rotors are exposed to salt and slush for half the year so rotors will rust. It turns out that actually using your real brakes occasionally is important to scrape the rust off your rotors before it pits them.
    The other unexpected issue was replacing my shocks. When I asked for estimates around town they all came back near $2000! It’s due to a mistake in the flat rate manual. Toyota only sells a replacement shock, which requires the complete disassembly of the complete strut assembly. They don’t sell a quick strut. So the flat rate book shows like 3 hours per wheel. But there’s nothing tricky about replacing it with a quick strut. I finally found a shop willing to do it for the actual time it took rather than the flat rate book time. They doubled their labor rate but it still cut the bill to $700. But be prepared to really overpay if you don’t know this!

      Pablo Antonio - I’m working in Chicago so my brakes actually get used now. When I was living in rural Iowa I could mostly rely on regen braking. I’m happy to report that my battery still recharged to green on an almost daily basis.

I got a super good deal as prices on these cars have dropped due to lack of demand and low gas prices. Once gas prices shoot up we are all sitting on a mountain of gold.

    • @cryptoscott1463
      @cryptoscott1463 Před 7 lety +2

      The Prius is running amazingly and I replaced the coolants, transmission fluid, and spark plugs. Apparently you are doing something right with your car. What kind of oil do you use and how often do you change it? Is it conventional or synthetic? What kind of filter? How often do you change the engine air filter and cabin air filter? Has your 12 v battery died yet? If so how did you fix it? If mine does, I'm hitching a ride and buying the dealership battery and installing it myself or if the dealership is closed at the time, to call Meineke that can install the 12v on site. I have heard horror stories of inverters getting fried when people try to jump start it (the jump starting engine isn't supposed to be on either way).
      The only complaint I have about this car is that there is a clunk type hesitation when the car is about to complete a full stop. It is when the electromagnetic brakes disengage and the hydrolic breaks engage. There is a gap overlap where the transition is not so smooth. I read somewhere online that some cars have this issue but it isn't an important thing that needs fixed. It said that it can be fixed by the dealership doing a software update to where the timing of the breaks are more seemless. I called the mechanic at the dealership and explained just that but he told me he didn't know what I was talking about. I think they have to play dumb on the phone so that they can charge $109 to take a look at it. They call it diagnostics. Did you have that issue? I have also read that the breaks don't work for like a quarter to a half a second after hitting a pothole or large bump in the road when going up or down a steep incline/decline. In the 6 months it only happened once. Since it isn't a repeat thing I'm not going to worrry about that or the clunk, it hasn't got any worse and that might even be normal.
      The car was a smoker and I didn't realize that until I had already bought it. I had to do it long distance and a family member helped me get a good deal as a favor. It had 83,000 miles and was 6450 after dealership charges and taxes. I'm almost at 90 k and there have been no issues other than that was written above. The smoke smell is mostly out but the headliner will eventually have to be replaced. I replaced my floor mats with this awesome custom fitted mat made just for the Prius. I'll try to find the link here: www.ebay.com/itm/Aries-TY03411509-Black-Front-Floor-Mat-Liner-for-2004-2009-Toyota-Prius-/391664677849?fits=Year%3A2007%7CMake%3AToyota%7CModel%3APrius&hash=item5b3108b3d9:g:V2gAAOSwUKxYZfxu&vxp=mtr
      The good news is that there are some independent car mechanics that will work on engine and fluid replacement maintenance tasks. A good portion of independent auto shops won't take a Prius. Not that they don't know how to work on one but they don't want to get in trouble because they don't have the special insurance that is required for working on hybrids. If your battery goes out, there are companies that will not only work on your batteries and replacing a bad cell (around $400 depending on how specialized they are) but there are companies now that contract out to have a qualified electrician/mechanic in the nearest city to service your car right in your driveway. The company ships them the refurbished battery and they drive out to the house and install it. There is one in Florida that will do it for $600 but the most popular one I have found so far is the one at this link: www.greentecauto.com/ They can service any location within 45 states and the hybrid battery on that one is $950. That is a lot better than 4 grand like the dealership does! (they say the batter is 2.75 k but they replace all of the computers and battery fan as well upping that price significantly) The website says they also sell inverters! Those run about 5k at the dealership as well. I have no clue if technicians can install that on site or not. It sure looks like though that your car doesn't have to be pronounced dead when you have these options. The only other thing that could be a major liability would be the brake actuator pump or the drive train, but in my reads on forums it doesn't look like those have much of a failure rate thankfully.

    • @PabloZelaya
      @PabloZelaya  Před 7 lety +2

      Hey Scott, happy to hear. I have also replaced the spark plugs and I did that myself using a CZcams video hahahaha!!! As I commented on someone else's comment, I'm kind of slacking on maintenance now, nonetheless, the car is doing great!!! So I was doing my oil changes every 5k miles, I have since stopped and do it every 7500 to 8k and I add oil myself, a quart here and there, I know when it needs it cause I hear a metallic like rattle when I drive it low on oil so that's my indicator. Probably not a good thing but I've been doing it for a while now and no problems. I fluctuate between Full synthetic, synthetic blend and traditional. When I add it myself, I'll do the same, all depends on the timing and the pocket at the time LOL. The engine and cabin air filters I change when I take it for an oil change and they tell me I need it but only if I see that it's really dirty. Usually every 3 oil changes. My 12v batter has not died yet so I can't answer that question and I pray to God it doesn't fail any time soon, almost 300K and still going strong! Good luck with yours!!!

    • @pollycrilly6842
      @pollycrilly6842 Před 6 lety

      the 12v battery isn't too bad, easy to change to the right side of spare tire, but they are a special battery because it's constantly starting vehicle, these batteries cost $180-220 for the one i replaced mine with! I have heard of folks using regular 12v car battery that fit in tray for $90 w/o any problem, may not last as long! I have jumped may vehicles in 11 years, no problems!! Because I drive mine like a v-8 so now it uses oil so I use synthetic high mileage blend, (Anything but Pennzoil, Havoline, or QuakerState) if you seen the inside of those engines you would never use those either! my 2013 takes full syn 0-20 change 5,000-7,500 miles! Cabin Filter is really just a filter for air you are breathing in the car, I have only changed mine twice in 11 years, it does not affect the way the vehicle runs !

      Hey Damien, thanks for the comment. Personally, I love the 2007. I know people who have had newer models, including my cousin and they weren't quite sold on it. Don't know the specifics. From what I've heard/read/seen, the 2007 was the last model they made with Japanese parts so everyone tells me this is why it's such a great vehicle? I'm not a mechanic so I can't say yes or no and I don't have anything against American cars nor did I buy it because of that, I learned it after the fact so I would say if you can get a 2007 with good mileage at a good price, based on personal experience, you won't regret it.

    I've had my 2010 Prius for 13 years, and as this man says, "it's the best car I have ever owned". To put it bluntly American auto manufacturers should have Toyota design their vehicles. All that has been replaced is the 12 volt starting battery, and the hybrid battery is still going strong. I have had a new Prius Prime on order for 15 months, and will try to pick it up tomorrow. Hey Ardika, did you find a 2007 or what year? Yeah, if it was in an accident check it out really good to make sure it looks okay. Depending on when it was, it may be fine also if it has continued to run problem free for a while since the accident. Because of the Hybrid engine/battery, you definitely want to make sure none of that was damaged and if it was, that it's been properly fixed. It should not make loud noises, they are pretty quite. If you now anyone near you who is very familiar with Prius', maybe take them along when you go see it. Best of luck.

    I'm considering buying a full spec 2008 Prius at 201k miles. What issues have you had to deal with up to the current amount of miles on your Prius?

    I'm looking at buying a 2007 Prius with 234k miles on it. Thanks for putting together this video. I know it has 25% of the breaks left, which I hear should last a while. I'm kind of excited about getting it! :-D How much longer did your car last you? How many miles did you put on it?

    Thanks for this video, gave me some confidence. I am considering buying also 2007 with 113k on it for $3500 for my 90 mile round trip commute to work for next 9 months. How is it holding up 4 years later ?

      Hey how you doing. Thanks for writing. The car is still in great shape if you ask me. I actually ended up giving it to my daughter about a month ago and she has it. I'm hoping it will keep running and if she ever doesn't need it, I might take it back LOL. No issues though.

    I live at the top of a hill. Not a lot of twists and turns. Will the Prius be peppy enough to climb with no problem. I have a Volvo S70 now with Turbo.

    Hey Pablo, i also own a used Prius, 2004 with 180.000 km since 2013. The Prius is not spectacular, but under the Hood it is !! I love the Prius so much. Consuption is so less ..... approx 61 to 49 MPG here in Austria / Europe. Hybrid Battery after 180.000km in PERFECT condition. Hope it will last to 2018. Than i like to buy a other Prius Hybrid .... or a Tesla ?? Let`s see. Always good drive !

      Awesome! Happy to hear! I'm not quite ready for all electric. I travel a lot/driving and I need more than the 300 mile electric range. Once that gets closer to 1,000 miles per charge I'll consider it. In the meantime, I'm really considering the new Prius version but not until my baby says no more hahahaha....Take care!

    Toyota's may can't put smile on your face while driving but, They would never make you feel bad about your decision of buying Toyota...I loved my 2010 corolla s like my baby. Unfortunately i had to sell it because of moving.

      well all Prius (and many toyotas) are underrated when it comes to their driving characteristics..the instant acceleration from a standstill actually feels nicer than a lot of normal gas engine cars especially in the compact/mid-size sedan segments and despite the vague but quite precise steering, since they are pretty light the Prius is more nimble than what people typically think..either way it seems like the newest gen has finally gotten some good credit on its driving feel.

    i just hit 100k on my prius and its a solid ride. Ive had a 91 ford aerostar which constantly broke down and had problems. As well as 2 oldsmobiles one from the 80s and one from 97 they both fell apart on me. Something about the 2007 model killin it.

    The next generation is as good, I have one that is driven over 100 miles a day, it has over 150K and the only problem it has ever had is that it blows the head lamps bulbs quite often, put LEDs on it and problem solved. Not one single thing has broken in the 5 years and over 100K we’ve put on it, and it’s bigger and more powerful than that one and better full economy. So go for it.
