With a passion for all things vintage r/c, in this video I take on a special project for a fellow enthusiast and friend, his late brothers Yokomo 870c Dog Fighter.
A brilliant video.. thanks for sharing.. interesting info re the white plastic parts not working out with the peroxide… if it fails me in future, I’ll try to source the napisan instead. Good luck 👍🏼
Excellent resto man ... good tribute to the colours of the body as well! Ultrasonic cleaners are the bees knees for bringing those whites back to life!
That looks awesome and great restoration! I'm sure the paint job is exactly how Richards brother intended. Fine job on this one, Jason. I bet Richard is over the moon with it. 👌👍
Very nice job. You brought it back to life. Never saw a 29MHz radio before. is it a regional thing? Europe used 27MHz (still does, but not so relivant anymore).
Hi JS. I sourced the media locally and asked for the least aggressive the supplier had. It was a while ago and if I am honest I dont recall the specific grade.
Hi Jason, great video. I have original shocks ‘the thin original leaking silver shocks’ originally on the 870C. Putting them together, and I recall you eluding to a fix for the leak. I’d love to know what you did!
Hell and thanks for your interest. There was a difference between the 870c release and the later 1988 YZ10 release. Its been years since I did these shocks but I modified the inner seal housing and it's held up for me.
Wow superb work, I’m currently restoring a 870c to be vintage raced and trying to locate period decals, nice to see some of what I should be looking for. All the best
Thank you Ryan. You and I go back aways. I remember messaging you years ago about polishing alloy components. This build was very satisfying and the fact I could try and get this car back to its full potential for Richard to honour his brother was great
It was some kind of product I purchased from the hardware store (not hobby grade) which is designed for clear coating metal applications. I no longer have the can so I can't recall.

Awesome transformation and great story.
Thank you Keith. Yes it sure was a very worthwhile build that was very rewarding
oh same as your other video i also have a new ex5 radio control which i owned when childhood my father bought me. lots of amazing memories.
Ko Propo are my favourite!!
Nice work!!!!
I can just imagine all the hard work but absolutely great story. Another Fighter saved.✌️
Thank you Luke. You yourself have a good grasp on restoring old rc's and yeah, this one was very special

Thank you Stu. I have owned a couple ultra sonic cleaners and they have both shorted out on me. One day I will invest in something more reliable.

Thank you kindly Mick.
It sure was rewarding to make it through to the end of this restoration.

Everyone now days runs 2.4ghz now days. But it was common to run 29 & 27am but in the day.
Thank you kindly.
Beautiful! Excellent restoration. Exactly what medium was used to blast the magnisium parts? And what was used to clear coat the parts.
Cheers.

All the best
Look up MCI decals. They specialise in very good reproduction decals. Nathaneal is a great guy to deal with
@@Bormac073 thank you, I did use a set of his for my works 91, great quality too. Are you on Instagram?
@@Chriswizzv12 i am but dont really do much over there.
Awesome job I love how you painted it to look like he originally intended..

@@Bormac073 yeah I'm sure it feels amazing to be able to do that for him... love it 😊
Great video! Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Glad to hear you like it.
Great work Jason !
Many thanks brother.
Epic!
Gauranga :-)
Did you use a powered polish wheel or hand rubbed all the alumium and brass parts?
Mostly spun in a drill and polished with compound and rag.
Clear coat on the magnesium parts? What kind of clear coat did you use? Nice work overall.

Hello! Is there a way to reach you via email? Nice work and thank you for your restorations.
