Love watching your videos. You are so humble and true to your Family and Country. Planter boxes turned out great.

Great video. Really clear and easy to follow. I've made similar planters using basically this design, and they turned out nice.
One thing I did differently was to have the leg widths differ, as opposed to the stretchers, so all four sides were equal. One wide and one narrow leg on each side. After the sides were assembled I made a shallow saw cut on the table saw right over the vertical joint between the leg pieces and another on the face of the other side, creates a nice corner detail and camouflages the seam.
Another thought, if you're going to paint them just screw them together on each corner and skip the pocket holes. Longer screws can be use that way and easily hidden with a dab of wood filler.

I bought the plans and built two of these as I really like the look of them. I had a hard time keeping everything square when attaching thr two L shape halves. I ended up with a slight wobble in both planters...for the life of me I cant figure it out as I took my time with all my cuts and measurements. In the end I eliminated the wobble and am happy with the finished product. Thanks!

Nice looking planter. Question, Why did you use interior pocket hole screws? They won't last very long in the elements.

It's what I had. 1" exterior pocket screws are hard to find

@@PatriotDIY yep ... I was looking for some this past weekend. I think the only way to get them is online and even then, they're not that easy to find. Armor Tool is about the only place I've found them.

Great job. Is there a reason for the backer boards not going the full length of the frame to give it a finished look instead of leaving a gap all the way around? I'm thinking to get the most out of each picket.

If I were going to make these to put pergola poles in, would it be prudent to not have legs on them for the weight? What about drainage?

    • @PatriotDIY
      @PatriotDIY  Před rokem

First I'd say yes, no legs is probably a good call. But using planters to support Poles usually doesn't support the weight the way you think they will. What I've done in the past is run the pole directly into the ground and just put the planter over it for looks....like this czcams.com/video/ghErSyyCPK4/video.htmlsi=QD1Fx3t6Rs04j-Ye

How did you get the pocket holes drilled on the diagonal cut of the top trim

I must have done something wrong, because my 1" pocket screws won't sink in alll the way. I need some assistance as to what I've done. Thanks.

The thickness of fence pickets can very a little bit, yours may be a little thicker! If the 1" doesnt work you can Try 1.25" pocket screws
You shoukd also check the settings on your pocket hole jig to make sure it's set correctly for the material thickness

@Les Ganton the video is about the design and the methods for building it, you can make any size planter you want with whatever dimentions to fit your needs. Cut sheets for this exact one are in the plans

I've built a few of these planter boxes. I've never used pocket screws, seems very over engineered and unnecessary. They hold up fine without them but anything to justify the cost of the jig. 🙂

I live in Ester, NC. I sell them for $30 a pice.
I just use Brad nails and glue, I don't see the reason for pocket hole screws.
