I actually never dared to do this, because I assumed this would be considered as duplicate content. Tried it a month ago and submitted the pages.
Works perfectly... My niche is quite specific (dessert foodtruck) in a small country (Belgium) and I now rank top 3 for the cities and provinces that are important for me.

Thank you so much for the valuable content, I studied it well, and here is the summary of my study note from your video:
1-You don’t need to ask can or should I rank specific cities, just depending on where are your clients and the demand in the market, can you provide such products/services from a distance away?
2- Do research on the keywords and the sites of potential competitors and write down the outlines of the competitive contents, such as word counts, the frequency of keyword citations, and the way of presentation, set up a plan to beat them, the planning is the most important before achieving the goal.
3-Prepare the content of the landing page and post it
4-The content can be reused for different city’s ranking
5-Promote the content in any way you can, the social media one is the most common.
6-Do not post all landing pages with the same content ranking for different locations at the same time
7-Do not try to compete with the sites with much higher rankings than mine. To make it achievable, just battle with those with easier keywords and lower domain authority.
4 years later and still #2 for NYC SEO.

@@ANerdsWorld Where do you bury these pages? Frontpage Footer, in the main Menu or just linked with a keyword in copy somewhere in the site?
@@creamsodamedia8786 reverse engineer me. The landing pages are normal website pages that not in the top navigation/menu or footer menu. Only way you can find the landing page is typing in Google the keyword I am targeting on that page. Hope that makes sense.

Hello Chris, awesome video. I believe you gave more education in this video than most. I see that you mentioned my comment about your more motivational than educational. I believe that statement was true compared to your guest speaker Ruan. I didn't say you didn't offer value or education. It was just in comparison to your guest speaker at the time. I truly think the person thst provides more valuable visual information will gain more followings and subscribers. This why he has almost 100,000 followers compared to 14,000 with about the same amount of time on CZcams. I didn't mean to make you mad just my opinion. I was by no means offended by your comment. Everyone is welcome to an opinion and you left yours. I respect and appreciate Ruan for his drive and success at such a young age. As I mentioned he motivates me. That motivation is not due to the fact that he has 10 times more subscribers on CZcams. He's chasing his dream and determined and dedicated, that is what I like.
The questions I asked Ruan were not for me personally, but rather for the people that follow my content. I will live a very happy and profitable life with 14,000 subscribers. My goal is to make millions of dollars a year and not millions of CZcams likes.
I believe the younger generations get caught up on subscribers, likes, and follows when in real life business is much more difficult. I know dozens of people on CZcams, Twitter and Instagram that have literally millions of followers or subscribers and still live at home with their parents because rent is too high.
I recommend you to simply download the free version of SEMrush for 7 days. Enter my domain and compare it with any and all competitors then see who gets the most website traffic, and that has zero to do with CZcams likes.

Absolutely love your content Chris. I have watched very much of you videos these days and I have learned so much so I thank you for that. I have a question. How long does it take to rank for low competition key words?
Thank you. I'm not in the guessing game at all. There are so many different factors that will determine how long your rankings will take.
I teach my clients to eliminate time from the equation and simply build the page(s) to the best of your ability and then watch as your stats grow and your ranking increases week by week.
That being said, I think a newcomer to SEO will wait 3-4 months to rank first page (if done properly for a low competition keyword).
If I create a new location landing page on my website I would expect to be #1 for a low to medium competitive location keyword within the first 2-4 weeks.
My advice is to just start building these pages out. Time will pass quickly and you will get a positive ROI on the time spent. This is a marathon and not a sprint.

Secondly, I wanted to ask how you'd rank an ecommerce store's products for multiple cities? For example, a health store that sells a type of natural honey and ranks the product page for "natural honey Toronto" , how could they rank for "natural honey NYC" also? Would you create seperate product pages for each keyword?

It's a new landing page and possibly a blog post to help promote that landing page. But all content is added to the same website (www.anerdsworld.com). If you Google "NYC SEO" you should find my page and you can review it.

Easiest suggestion, simply ask your clients for a review.
Really valuable advice Chris! Most "wannabe gurus" would charge hundreds if not thousands for this kind of info. You truly stick with the motto that valuable information should be free.
I wonder though. When you research the keywords with the Ctrl + f "command + f" do you search for the exact words only or synonyms as well? For example "Website design" do you search just the "website" word or also like "websites"?
I read somewhere that google nowadays recognizes synonyms of words as well but what's your view on this from an SEO research point of view. I think this would be valuable information for everyone here looking to do some seo

When I am creating city landing pages (or any landing pages for that matter) I try to create a rough guideline on how much content I should create and how many times I should include my keyword.
It wouldn't hurt to search additional variations of the keyword when researching competitors but I normally tend to avoid that additional work unless it's a really tough keyword with high competition. I recommend that you build a process that works best for you and try it out for yourself.
My ultimate goal is to create as much decent content as possible within a given timeframe. I am not seeking perfection, or it would take me way to long.

Good question! I watch stats to see how Google reacts to these pages. Most of the time I will need to add more content or get more internal (or external) links to help with ranking. I use SEMrush.com to watch the stats, but everything else is manual.

Great information. I have a question though. Do I need to put canonical for the main service page? Like I have a landing page for a service page example.com/services-xyz. Now I'll be creating /services-xyz-california and so on. What should I do in that case? Should I use canonical as most of the time content would be similar?

Chris can you rank for more then one keyword in that landing page? So for example web design Toronto along with logo design Toronto, or would you say it’s better to do a landing page for web design and logo design? Thanks love the content
It's very possible that you can rank for more than one keyword on a landing page but I would recommend focusing on 1 keyword per page. One page for "Toronto Web Design" and a second page for "Toronto Logo Design".

After creating landing pages each one is tagges as "orphan page" - Would I need to interlink from my website to the landing page? My website's health score actually went down for this ;(

He does not put it in the menu. It is purely for Google

I think the speed is much more important in 2021 than it was in 2020. I have an updated SEO video for 2021 I would recommend that you watch.

Alot of clients want a worpress site so I have been trying to figure out if a headless wordpress site would be better for people simply for the performance gain. Thanks again.
@@jameshagooddesigndevelopme7819 from my personal experience, the speed of your website plays a big role in your metrics, and overall search engine ranking. That being said, if you do everything else properly and have a high authority then speed is not as important of a ranking factor. I've personally ranked #1 for highly competitive keywords with a rather slow website. The bottom line is SEO is important but the user is also important, so to be on the safe side, the faster the load time the better. Google has also outlined that speed is playing a bigger role in ranking in 2021.
@@ANerdsWorld yeah I had read that before that is why I have been trying to figure out if I should recommend the headless wordpress route to my clients so I can give them the speed they need with the wordpress they want. That's why I have been trying to see how slower wordpress sites have been doing with SEO. Thanks again.
WP is not slow when configured properly. My WP sites load in 1 second or less; it's a matter of knowing the right techniques and running from the right servers.

If you use same content for location ladning pages, won't Google punish you for Doorway pages. And they won't like that you have too many location landing pages from the primary location of operation. Google recommend 4-5 locations on top of your primary location. Or is it just Google talking nonsense
I've heard that argument but after 15 years of SEO I've never ever experienced any punishment for creating landing pages the way I do. All the best!
