    Hate when your dress shirt sleeves are too long? I got you covered.
    First, unfurl your sleeve and check out the pleat-it helps your shirt fit in the cuff. Keep that in mind because we'll be making some later. Grab a seam ripper and carefully attack the stitch, but be cautious not to poke a hole in your shirt. The first few stitches might be tough, but once you make a hole, it gets easier.
    Keep working around until the cuff is completely removed. Remember that factory pleat? We’re going to do it better. I'm removing 1 inch (2.5 cm) from the sleeve. Use a fabric marker or chalk to mark your new cuff line. If your shirt has a pattern, don't use the lines as a guide-measure to ensure accuracy all around.
    We’re going to put a basting stitch on that line to cinch up the sleeve later. Set your stitch length and tension as loose as possible on your sewing machine. This stitch will be super easy to remove. Don't back stitch to lock it in. Once done, cut off the extra fabric, leaving about a quarter of an inch (6 mm) for seam allowance.
    Reattach your cuff just above the basting stitch, adding smaller pleats as you go. If you have more sleeve than cuff, pull the basting stitch to cinch up the sleeve. Adjust previous pins to ensure everything is even.
    Readjust your sewing machine settings and line up your needle above the original stitch. Go slow, like you're walking a tightrope over Niagara Falls. Smooth out any non-pleated spots for a sleeker finish. Boom!

    SD, show us how to make nice pocket squares out of old shirts. I have a few shirts that almost ended up in the trash but the patterns in the fabric could make stylish pocket squares.

    (Also it's really cute hearing the terms I already know from knowing about historical fashion (basting stitch in this specific instance) being said by a modern man to his bros. Especially when I typically watch women showing who speak in various non-standard-american accents)

    😭 yes this one is the one i need. short fat guy, and it's actually impossible for me to find a shirt that fits my chest -(and stomach)- but doesn't go entirely over my hands. This wins. I'm here, now I just gotta hope I can find a cheap shirt on clearance I can practice on.

      Glad it was helpful for ya and thanks for being a channel member! You can leave the basting stitch in there, you're essentially sewing just above it so it isn't visible at all.

    @Stylish D: How about pinning the ends, of the
    sleeve in the cuff First, then adjust the pleats to fit
    so there is no bunching or shortage? 😁✌🖖

    • @StylishDTailors
      @StylishDTailors  Před měsícem

      You could definitely do that but then you lose the ability to pull your basting stitch tighter. Not the end of the world, just an alternative way to do it!

      @@StylishDTailors: Pulling the basting stitch gathers the material, right?
      By pinning the ends first and adjusting the pleats, you don't need
      to gather the material, right? Real question. Am I missing something? 😁✌🖖

    SD I have extremely Long arms, could you do a video on the opposite?

    • @StylishDTailors
      @StylishDTailors  Před měsícem

      Hmm doable but the problem is whether or not you would have enough extra fabric on your shirt to extend the sleeve significantly. You might get an extra 1/4 inch or so. Might not be worth it.
