  • In "The Search for the Titanic" Orson Welles takes the viewers into a massive expedition trying to locate the remains of the famous unsinkable ship at the bottom of the Atlantic North waters several years after its sinking on it's maiden voyage back on April 1912.
The Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912, after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New Your City. There were 1,514 people that drowned in one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. "The Unsinkable Titanic" sunk and today the story lives on in fans of those who love this great ship and it's history.

Jack Grimm and his team claimed they located the wreck of Titanic by photographing what appeared to be a propeller. It was obvious that the image was nothing more than a large stone laying in a mud plain on the ocean floor. If Grimm would have found the wreck, a debris trail would have taken him right to the main wreck. But no debris trail were ever mentioned in Grimm's 3 expeditions. Besides, Robert Ballard proved that Jack Grimm's location where he was searching was roughly 13 nautical miles north of the actual location where Robert Ballard found the debris trail and a boiler, that led him to the actual wreck site. The rest is in the history books!

When Ballard and his team discovered the wreck Sept 1, 1985 it was discovered pretty quickly that day that she was indeed split in two on the ocean floor. In fact, a boiler was the first piece of wreckage seen on the video screens..then debris and then the hull, etc.. It was not until a maned dive to the wreck itself by Ballard in 1986 actually provided close up, color video of the damage, the split and even a limited view in the interior using the Jason robot. Fantastic technology for the time.

Mark this is one hell of a channel you have!
    Here’s a challenge for you!
Find an RTE (Irish) documentary called ‘Titanic Confession’ which examines the case of the Norwegian ship ‘Samson’ which was allegedly illegally seal hunting in the area Titanic went down and yet did not come to her aid.
Such an impressive documentary that the UK Government of the time used it to take another look at Stanley Lord’s role on the night.

  • @markm.j.lewandowskijr1171

I have a twin VHS tapes set and it seems like both Expeditions in 80 and 81 are longer than this grouped together video. Orson Welles video is 1h and 30 mins long and the James Drury one is 40 minutes on it's own. Same two documentaries but each one longer than this. It seems like they just cut down and focused on more of the trip than some of the behind-the-scenes footage that occurred preparing for the 80 trip and the 1981 trip. I'll try to upload them. Hopefully I don't get any infringement charges. Nevertheless this is a good upload, these videotapes were notorious for being very grainy and crappy after extensive watching.

If they thought that was a propellor blade, you'd think they would slow down and drag the camera to the left or right to spot the hull which was no doubt right next to it. Why would they just stop right after the sighting? They probably saw nothing else nearby and the show had to pretend that they just ran out of time.

Orson Welles had a reputation of not finishing projects and not working well with others. Of coarse all this has since been proven nonsense. I love this small film with some of his acting and narration (which he was so perfect for with that amazing voice)
I realize many know him from “War if the Worlds” 1938 October 30th shocker over the old time radio, but he is also known for so much more. Creating The Mercury Theatre on the air radio program responsible for some of the best radio adaptations of all time. Perhaps the greatest radio drama still to this day “The Hitchhiker” later done by Welles again on “Suspense” then of course his film work. Citizen Kane will always be the worlds greatest film. If mankind presented God with humanity’s greatest work of film art. Surely “Kane” would be that film.
If old radio programs in the same vein as large ocean liner content are added to this channel. Welles made two greats that would fit right in.
“The story of the first ship to Antarctica told through first person narration of journals for accuracy and recreated drama interwoven to make it a great program. Welles has also made Moby Dick adaptations on radio drama.
Again… awesome film Mark. Thank You

If Grimm had allowed the scientists to conduct a methodical search, they would have found the wreck. Instead he ran all over the place, wasting time on sonar targets they had identified on the first expedition, to justify the expense.
Then, after the second expedition, Grimm again tried to justify the expense by claiming that a rock was Titanic’s propeller.
