    There is the same few stereotypes that foreign people always think of when they meet irish people.
    Whether they're little green, lucky-charm eating, english fighting, haggis eating men called Paddy living in county Kerry.
    It's time to clear those up, all in one-take.

      Kevin Mallen I kind of thought corned beef and cabbage was mainly an American tradition for the holiday, not something native irish people ate all the time. Same thing with soda bread, you can't get it in a grocery store in the states and I can't be bothered to try to find a baker that can make it so I only make it one or two times a year because I grew up with it.

      Oisin O'Sullivan That is more of an Irish-American thing, started during the Great Famine, when Irish people started coming to America in large numbers with next to nothing. Corned beef and cabbage were cheap and therefore became staples in a lot of Irish immigrate homes. Now it is just something we eat on special occasions to remember those who came before us.

    I find some Irishmen's mannerism or energy indicate they're always ready to fight. I don't know why that is. In Brazil, where I'm from, we've got lots of men who are sometimes stronger/broader/more muscular, but they don't have that vibe about them. Maybe you have some kind of boxing genes going on, I don't know. And you also have some men who reminds me a lot of pirates (in the movies). Perhaps it's the very unusual blend of eye colours and intense look. I'll never forget this taxi driver who looked exactly like a pirate. He was massive. He had dark hair and eyes who resembled precious stones. He could look into my soul. I wanted to run away!
    Anyway, I tell my friends Ireland is a place where all your secrets will be revealed by your own self! You have to be very careful if you're a more secretive or introverted person. You may find yourself saying things you didn't want to share. No wonder Irish people make great police officers. They can get all the information they want without revealing anything about themselves!

      I'd say we're pretty open in the cities, especially towards the likes of two men walking down the street holding hands or young people dressing anyway they please. I think at times we are a bit weary of outsiders, for instance my best mate is nigerian and he still get's some very funny questions asked, also when I'm out with him I get asked weird questions because they think he's my bf. But for the most part it's innocent curiosity and harmless. See unlike many Western countries we've only had a few decades of foreign settlement as up to the 80's we had no jobs to offer anyway. The funny thing is I heard the same about Australians, like I was told you guys could be anti-gay and racist but I guess it's all just rumour . :)

    • @mogadishusneeze
      @mogadishusneeze Před 9 lety +10

      Depends on the person. There are narrow minded, mean spirited people everywhere. Thankfully though, they would be the minority in Ireland.
      Mostly the Irish pride themselves on not giving a fuck about most things. All we want to know is are you up for the craic and will you just enjoy yourself and keep things light?
      However one way we would definitely be conservative, is for the likes of game shows.You will never, ever find a self respecting Irish person jumping up and down screaming WHOO HOO! If they won something. Usually it'll just be a smile, a nod and a 'Jaysus, thats grand.'
      Then there is the reason most celebrities like Ireland. WE LEAVE THEM ALONE. Once again, no self respecting Irish person loses their shit, if they see a celebrity. (ok some foolish young girls occasionally -but they tend to grow out of it) Upon seeing a celebrity, the usual consensus is..."Oh there's your man, fair play to him, hope he has a nice time. He needn't bother thinking I'll be kissing his arse though. Cheeky cunt.' And of course, 'Hope he's up for the craic and keeps things light.'
