    As a low Plat tank main myself, I can tell you that the hardest thing by far is to not engage in a Rein duel. We don't go for squishies if there is another Rein in front of us. Nothing we can do about it. It's like a natural instinct or something about honor maybe?

      *I feel like I either need the other mercy to die or she's the only one I respect on the opposite team because game recognizes game lol. one time, the enemy mercy did alpha me after I juked her entire team, and I was like "mercy, you are the only one I respect" in match chat and she said "only a bad bitch can kill a bad bitch" and so we added each other after the match lmao

    This is brilliant, pretty humanizing as well to see a GM player play Rein slightly worse than I do, *somehow* xD. But that's ok, it's a different mentality, a different playstyle, and it takes a different skillset to succeed at top form. It's just comforting to know you can always learn something even when you're a good player. Can't wait to see Flats' Ana roasted next ^^

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope Před 2 lety +14

      yes!! exactly this. it goes to show exactly what you said, and for me, it always elevates my respect for my tanks and dps and helps me be less annoyed with them. when I play those roles, it's really hard for me! so when my tanks/dps don't play the way I hope, maybe it's because they're learning that role or maybe they're having an off day or maybe it's just because the role is hard and sometimes you struggle. it's very humanizing.
      it also makes me feel more confident too in my own role. granted, I'm not GM, I'm in plat, so I'm a silver DPS lol and a gold tank, but still -- it makes me realize how important it is that I play well when I play support because I know how much I appreciate good supports and how much they enable me and how much confidence they give me on the other roles. I'm more aware of my own contributions, if that makes sense, even though they often go unsung because usually what I'm doing doesn't end up in the kill feed or in potgs.
      TLDR I love this video and I love your comment

You're not gonna get anything new from a streamer right now that wasn't already done more than 18 months+ ago. The roasting/spectating stuff is fun, the people know what they sign up for, they're supporting their favourite streamer by saying "hey - here's my shit, do your worst". It also highlights how powerful the role of Tank in OW is and the decision tree. I think the biggest takeaway for support players like myself who want to learn tank is that we have to unlearn our aversion to taking damage. that's a big part of playing support -- our job is to stay alive so we can help our teams. if we die, no one gets our healing, no one gets speed or damage boosted, etc.
    but as a tank, you take damage. ideally you do what you can to reduce the amount of damage, but taking damage is inevitable. that's the job. you put yourself in harm's way intentionally. you bodyguard your team and the objective/space.
    and! support players play with the mentality that we have 200hp and limited self-heal capacity. tanks have 400+hp and supports to heal them and provide other utility to reduce the damage they tank or disengage. for example, a Mercy regens health at 20hp per second after not taking damage for a second. without healing from the other support, that's what she's got. ideally she's not taking much damage in general, but that's what she has immediately at her disposal to heal. I use mercy as an example because I know her best.
    but tanks have two supports. using Mercy as an example again, a Rein might have a Mercy who can heal him for 55 HP per second and heal through shields. with a health pool of 500hp plus that 55hp per second (outside of valk, which does 60 healing per second + chain heals which is AOE essentially), that's a lot of healing* coming in, even without a second support's utility and healing.
    those resources allow for a completely different approach to team fights, but you have to take that approach, and it doesn't come naturally to support mains because we aren't practicing that style.
    so to me, that's the biggest lesson from this. you can't play scared as a tank, you can't be afraid to take damage in the same way you need to be cautious as a support. that may seem like a 4Head thing to say because on paper, it's very obvious, but when it comes to very fundamental things when it comes to playing the game, it's much harder to do something different.
    *"but mercy doesn't do much healing!!!" on paper, sure. but her healing is not resource based, unlike Moira and Brig. she does not need to aim to heal so there's no chance of missing once the beam is attached aside from beam breakage. she does not need to reload, so there's no downtime if she's holding beam on someone. and she can continuously heal through shields, and Zen is the only other support who can do that. she can also continue healing someone when they break LOS for an additional 1.75 seconds after they break LOS. I don't believe any other support can do that.
    on paper, it's not as much as Ana's darts or Bap's shots when he hits targets directly (his splash healing is only 50, I believe), but in practice, she has the potential to do (and often does, in my experience, even when getting 2k+ damage boosted per 10min) a lot more healing than others when you account for these other factors.

    Really liked the video, looking forward to the rest of the series! I think it works because Flats and KarQ are friendly with each other and so the roasts come off as joking/genuinely wanting to help learn. I think too often when people do the "roast" style of VOD review, it just ends up being bullying them for their mistakes. I think it's really cool how Flats points out the mistakes, goes over multiple ways of doing it differently, and says positive things when KarQ makes a smart play. KarQ is also really good about explaining his thought process, but not acknowledging his mistakes and not getting overly defensive.

    A great rule to have is that if you have an advantage, keep pushing for that advantage for as long as possible. Steamrolling and keeping the tempo in your team's side is a great way to utterly snowball the enemy team because you'll get ulti advantages, spawn advantages and stagger their team so they can't regroup in favourable positions or even shatter enemy team mentality. Snowballing in this game is very hard to stop at times. If you can trade and still keep the momentum on your team's side, it's still probably a good trade, barring dumb places like 2cp attack on second point where you have to keep bodies alive to contest the point. Ironically, 2cp's design exacerbates snowballing and it used to be even worse. If you die and lose momentum without trading anything, lives or ultimates, that's what we call feeding. Recognizing this is the make or break a main tank.

I love playing off tank much more than main tank, but the idea of the Maintank style potentially going away is not one I like to think about. The buffed up tanks might help with the space creation and allow a more main tank style, but I've not played with the game yet so I can not quite think of how it would actually feel.

    it really does show the real big difference between support and tank. support mains really do have no idea on the frontline. when to be aggro when to be passive etc etc. im not that good but as someone playing support almost every game, survival really is ingrained rather taking the aggro or tracking the enemy rather than your team more intensely. that really shows how each are different

    Hey flats, i have been playing overwatch for almost a year from now and am a tank main. I first started out as a silver rein and am now a flex tank player in low to mid plat . Climbing in the ranks was tough but i eventually managed to get to where i am current am now. However, ive played games in my current elo and i have noticed that games are much more harder than im used to in high gold. I dont know what to really improve on and it feels like the level of difficulty is much higher than im used to. Every game ive played so far has left me wondering that if im just not that knowledgeable on tank or its my team or some other reason. Is there much more to tank or is there a limit to what you can do on the role. I am so lost on if i can improve.

    I absolutely love these videos, huge fan of the roasting bronze and shit, but I'm a silver tank player myself, so these types of videos really let me see in hindsight the preventable situations I've been in.

    the thing with KarQ is that he's scared of dying from getting shot at by 1 player while not fully comprehending he has a dedicated healer and a bigger healthpool so he doesn't understand how to leverage that to his advantage, like it's ok to get shot at by some enemies for a bit of time while counterplaying the big threat that can kill you really fast.
    the second thing most likely is how aggressive you have to be as rein, rein is the only tank that wants to walk up to people into their face.
    a good analogy for reinhardt is if you compare him to a grapple character in fighting games, he's basically zangief.
    the second thing about tanks in general is that you probably will be pretty useless in some situations and the best thing you could try and do is fight until you die, either for more ult charge or for taking maybe someone down or getting them low enough so that your team can finish up.
    tanks generally go in first and also die first, that's just a fact so do the most with that as you can basically.
    and honestly this is not a plat reinhardt performance, maybe low gold perhaps, however the skill inflation due to the lack of tanks, then yeah maybe this is plat rein.
    but yeah KarQ don't know how to recognize strong positions or good pathing because he haven't gone too aggressive ever to know where he should dial it down.

    I’m a tank main but I’m an off tank player. There’s so much that goes into main that I have such a hard time with. If I HAVE to play main tank, I play sigma and make him a sort of main for the match

    Honestly, one question I've been dying to know for awhile. Who's job is it to make sure the cart keeps moving, unless it's a big important team fight? Who cart sits while their team is making space? What kind of hero needs to be on that?

    • @Bro1212_
      @Bro1212_ Před 2 lety +4

      Depends on the map and team comp. For example maps with large open areas your hit scans or Ana/zen should be on it.

    • @Samochan
      @Samochan Před 2 lety

      Usually a long ranged hero who can do their job from further away is great on cart duty. If no hero like that exists, it's fine for dps/off support/off tank to sit on the cart, while the tanks/main tank push forward and the healer who does more heals goes with them to keep everyone topped off. If your ulti meter is full and your teammates don't have ultis, it's fine to go sit on the cart because they can still build theirs from hitting the enemy and lose less from cart pushing and afking behind. Sometimes you want the players not required for the next fight (ulti combos) to sit on the cart so rest of your team can do a play if enemy team lets them push that far ahead of the cart (thought usually one should fight on the cart with all 6 people). Lastly, if none of the above holds true and nobody sits on cart cuz they forgot it exists... someone has to push it, might as well be the player who notices that cart needs to be pushed.
