- Despite what naysayers might have said, single-player games continue to keep a strong presence within the games industry to the point that many of the biggest games in the current market landscape are single-player releases.
Single-player games encompass a huge number of genres including but not limited to those played in the first-person perspective. The last few years have seen a large number of single-player first-person games that had impressive critical reception but eventually slipped under the radar for one reason or another.
With this feature, we will be putting a spotlight on such games and counting down 15 of the best single-player first-person games that you probably didn’t play - but definitely should. - Hry

The atmosphere from the first dying light was completely lost in dying light 2

SERIOUSLY. And I just couldn't get used to player movement.... I felt completely out of control. Have played many games and NEVER experienced that before. So disappointed.
And not to mention the dlc with CARS.. its still very nice to play
Dying light 2 was shit. Couldn’t even finish the beginning of the game
Not many people liked Rage 2 but I personally loved it! Fast paced fighting Doom style, awesome abilities/guns, great graphics/sound, high fps, day/night cycle, different biomes, fun enemies, long campaign! The only thing it lacked for me was the in between areas didn't have much.
I love Doom 2016 and i really liked Rage 2
Rage 2 is extremely underrated if anyone has been sitting on it. I've been playing it and really enjoyed it. Hope they keep making more Rage games. I felt it was perfect for what I wanted from a game.
Far Cry 6 is great fun. I think game reviewers are often too critical of titles because gaming is their job. I’d hate anything I had to do for 8 hours a day. For us civilians, many of these “lackluster” games are exactly what we want. FC6 has cool side missions and very satisfying gun play. Felt the same thing happened to Biomutant and AC Valhalla.
I suspect severe critics on game like FarCry are in light to the series itself. Critics also considers what is the value proposition of a new iteration of the franchise, which is an important point imo.
Farcry 6 and primal are my favs in the series

Just got done going back through Ghostrunner. I went into Hardcore mode a while ago hoping I wouldn't regret it, but it's totally worth it if you love those game mechanics.
Vanishing of Ethan Carter scratched a particular itch I was feeling after Firewatch, which is sadly missing from this list.
Ethan Carter and Firewatch are both tremendous games.
Cool! Quite a few titles from Poland made it to the list! Ghostrunner, Shadow Warrior 3, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Dying Light 2! It's good that the recognition of Polish productions is growing and it's not only Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 anymore.
Single Player games are and will always be the heart and soul of video games, so i don't know who told you they are "dying" but i bet it was kids or idiots.....or both.
If they ever went away I would defo stop playing games.
fr. EA was the dumbass entity that pretty much highlighted the idea of "single player games are dead". Yet when they released Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, it received critical success.
Then you factor in Ubisoft. Pretty much the antithesis to what you mentioned about single player games by somehow turning them into a live service
What about Homefront The Revolution ? This game is the best "post-war" Far Cry. Most of the bugs have been patched, it runs at 120fps on Series X and it is damn fun to play... I really don't get the disdain for this game...

+1 to GhostRunner. Was my GOTY in 2020, stoked for the sequel.
Along the same lines as Entropy Centre, I would recommend "Backfirewall"
FYI: The classic Stalker games. All 3 of them are now available on X-Box for the first time ever. Great if you don't want to have to mess with all the crashing and bugs that are fixed with various mods and just want to play the game without worrying about that stuff.

I got Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus, Half Life Alyx and Dishonored 2. Not sure why "we probably didn't play those games"?

Single player fps games provide so much entertainment no matter the setting they take place in. I probably owe my love for this type of game cause of Peter Jackson's King Kong video game

rage 2 has some really fun fps shooter combat and vehicular combat. Game got a lot of hate when it came out just for being open world
Not sure it's just that it was open world. In terms of what was offered overall it seemed unrecognizable from what was seen before and left a lot of fans of the original scratching their heads.
Dude I played it twice and ngl it does suck in a lot of aspects like a lot
The aiming on console made it completely unplayable for anyone with any standards

I really love Far Cry 6. Some dismissed it as "just another Far Cry game" but the beautiful open world setting, the lore, the music, and the fun extras made it special.
Haven’t gone back to dying light 2 at all or back 4 blood waiting on that Marvel Spider-Man 2 to come out so I can play hell out of it.

If Half Life Alyx was on console & pc instead of just vr then it would have been played much more.
Well it's designed around VR so playing it without that just ruins it. There's still a mod for it though

Ghostwire Tokyo is one of the worst games I have ever played, it's boring as hell, the city looks awful in the sense that it's all the same and feels lifeless, the missions are not very good, the combat is very disappointing and the story isn't as good as it should have been either. How anyone can recommend that game is beyond me.

It was decent I'd say , probably like 7 out of 10 , I had fun (sometimes not) but overall good
The fact that Dying Light 2 and Far Cry 6 are on this list immediately destroys any chance of me taking this list seriously. Both of those games are dogshit.
First part of Dying Light was good, but second part was a total disappointment. I definitely wouldn't even play it a second time. Styx like I don't see it, and both parts are perfect, I don't see any of the Tomb Raider parts, and quite a few more amazing single player games. The first version of Shadow Warrior for Dos, although it is old and has bad graphics, is many times better than the new versions, which are boring.
