  • this is a genuine E-meter from scientology, also known as lie-detector, i am sure this one is from 1974, its internal 6 cell nicd/nimh battery was badly coroded, but i was able to repair and restore it, i even drawn a fast paper version of the compleete schematic. The glass on the meter it self was loose, old glue stopped working, so i fixed that too. I also show how this meter works and what it does.
Function Switch Set=ohm reading, Transport=shorts the meter so it dont move too wildly when shaken, Test=show battery voltage and enable charging, mains input voltage needs to be applied in TEST mode.. and Mains cable MUST be disconnected during any opperation of this instument, very dangerous to forget the mains cable !
much more info about e-meter here:

I use auto generated subs, so if you find errors worth fixing, please comment with the time in the video you saw the error, i will be happy to fix it. This also apply to the Danish version.

Oh yeah, full circut of Mark V! Now I can build my own!

I am working on one now. It has a Yuasa battery with NO data on it and rotten. Your video shows the better battery with lots of data which will help me get a new one. The model I have has the battery in a clamp screwed to the inside case angle. I never was trained to use one but have experimented with a Mark III, IV, V, VI & VII. Not the Mk VIII which disables itself if not sent yearly for inspection to stop experimenters partly. It is an advanced version of a Wheatstone Bridge which was used at the turn of the 20th century by psychologists for therapy but discarded. It was refined as a guide to detect mental trauma, points of interest & stress from misdeeds as ONE part of a standard lie detector use in use for decades. It can easily be demonstrated to read as a fall to right on thoughts by oneself. It is affected by squeezing V-8 juice can as electrodes but this is stopped if still. The theory is thoughts have electrical energy and affect the ohm resistance in the body slightly. A very traumatized or tired person reads above 3.0 as more dense mental masses. Below 2.0 is a condition of an overwhelmed or hungry person. 2.0 is the ohm of a dead female. 3.0 dead male if connected to a corpse. Meaning no longer a mind affecting anything. If the large Tone Arm is at 3.0 for a male with the needle drifting freely it means nothing bad from the mind is currently affecting one and feeling good. 2.0 for women. As long as it is in between 2-3 it's ok. You need a large microphone plug with 2 alligator clips on the other to attach cans. Hands must be dry but not calloused dry. Or fake low or high Tone arm. Unplug cans, put switch to set & Tone arm to 2.0 trim knob to set mark on dial to calibrate then plug in & leave on set to operate. I believe it is charged with dial to TEST & Switch on. Transit is to protect needle during travel. Some people have a very active mind like me and need a low sensitivity setting like 1-6 to show long or short reads on thoughts..others can need it way up to 128 max. Sorta dull folk. The 2.0 = 5,000 ohms. 3.0 = 12,500 ohms. Must warm cans and have to clean contacts. These older meters were always sold as British imports for $127 the '60s. Then increased to over $500 made in USA..then by '86 ..$3,600...now Mark VIIIs $5850 and you are required to buy 2 @ $13,000 with tax! Rich man's game to be a living god!
The 70 yr long lies that it ONLY reads on sweat or squeezing is patently obviously, false in testing. They would NOT be in real polygraphs forever if the Wheatstone Bridge circuit did not read on emotions! Logic please not Propaganda for the "masses". You can also hook up someone give them a nasty pinch that hurts seeing the fall read. Then wait a while and ask them to recall that moment..you get the same reading. Then it dissipates as energy released which the whole idea of the abreactive therapy sessions for painful memories asking for earlier similar memories if it does not release. Abreactive therapy was also disgarded by psychologists because they never went into earlier similar memory chains to get and blow the basic earliest charged memory holding it all in place. (I found a $10. - 7.2 volt battery pack on Amazon using 6 AA type nickel-cadmium cells. Scraped off cover 1/2" to solder white wire to one batt like original. Bit hard to fit but glued to box in batt space. It works but meter off a bit, but works for tests.)

Thomas, did you ever make the circuit, you drew out, available online somewhere? Busy restoring a similar unit, so the circuit would be great.

I am sorry i did not scan it, but it is quite good explained in the video 14:09

Sensitive resistance meter, with built in drift, and also with no actual use other than to show resistance varies, and direction. Not not a medical device, but it is sold as a religious object, sort of a high tech Icon, there to be in the home of the faithful, and worshipped. Note they are extremely expensive devices, and are classed as all being part of the church, and so are bought, worshipped, and returned or passed down to the faithful.

A glorified Wheatstone bridge with a dodgy power supply :P

with a very dangerous unisolated powersupply.. what IF / WHEN, the coord is forgotten plugged into the wall..
I hope no one got electric boogie here..
