Sometimes strange things happen...or you get lucky...but when you get it on film, it makes a great true story.
I set the hook too early on this fish and ended up foul hooking it in the dorsal fin and breaking off. I always feel bad when I am pulling other peoples hooks out fish and wonder how long that fish has been wearing those hooks. So after giving this fish time to recover I re-hooked it and got all my flies back essentially rescuing it from such a fate.

Always nice to know you haven't harmed the fish isn't it? Cool story my friend
Did that a couple years ago snapped off nymphs came back an hour later hooked him again got them out of him. Good thing cutties don’t turn down food
It’s nice that you can catch the same fish in the same hole time after time. I like seeing the same cutts so I can watch them change and grow but it’s also great to get those pesky flies back!
Nice water [ hole ]. You win some you loss some Kirby !! …
So true! Even though I didn't net him it still felt like a win making sure he was free. So lucky to have an experience like that.
What kind of rod are you using? Looks like a bug launcher or butterstick.
I think I recognize that username Hey BigToona! It's an eagle claw 6'6" fiberglass 3wt. How was the rest of the trip? Did you guys do well on the highwood later?
@@MidLifeFlysis nope, not me. Although I wish I was on the Highwood last week. Thanks for the info.
