Has Our Lawn Business OVEREXTENDED Itself?!

- We got a new mini skid. Spoiler alert... We have NOT overextended ourselves... you guys know better =). I painstakingly rented machines for 3 years working out ALL the kinks of what we need; from the controls of the machine, the size we need, to the brandI prefer, to the dealer support, to the attachments I need for offering additional services for our business. I thought this through... for a long time. And I'm SOOO happy to FINALLY have our very own material handler... And I can definitely say... I HAVE BEEN WORKING THIS THING LIKE A DOG since I've had it.

MY STORY:
In 2016 I had been in law enforcement for 7 years.
I was not in control of my schedule, I was hardly making any money, and I was away from my family working nights and holidays. I was capable of more, and I was silently suffering. I knew I was selling myself and my family short.
I started Florida Turf Pros as a side hustle in 2016 before going full time in 2017.
My lawn business changed my life.
I control my own schedule, control my own income, and I am proud of what I have built; a business that supports me, my family, and some employees.
If you are a lawn care business owner, this channel will be a valuable resource for you.
This really is a great industry to be in, and I hope that by documenting my journey it will help you.

We appreciate your trust and confidence and look forward to a strong partnership as your business continues to grow!
Thanks for checking in, looking forward to putting this machine to work. 😊
You will not regret buying the machine. It is amazing how many more jobs come out of the woodwork and that having the machine readily available just simply opens up so many different opportunities. Even smaller 1/2 day jobs that pay good, but not if you had to rent the machine. Plus the amount of tasks you will do around your own property are endless. Congratulations!
This is exactly what I am finding. I've had more neighbors walk up to me wanting me to do grading/top dressing and random things just because they see the machine. Well said... and thanks!
Congratulations on the new toy ... hope it brings lots of profit.
Stay safe and God Bless from Texas
Once you run it for a few weeks, you are going to kick yourself for not getting it sooner. I’m looking forward to your update video in May/ June. I was the same way, but gradually started adding attachments, and really expanded the amount at landscaping jobs we took on.
Can't wait!
The brush hog should be another tool that "esp in Florida" will pay dividends for you. I have the little agt and it just isnt big enough for what i want to do. Currently looking at the iron rino 1000 or 850. I cant afford those big brand names.
Good point.
I got the typhon stomp for 12k last winter on a whim. Already did a few jobs and some more lined up to do. Should easily pay for itself in one year. Good thing to have to expand services. Sounds like you have a cold Jon?!? feel better soon.
Yes, I've been getting over a cold, feeling better now thank you.
You did well with Verm. The Kubota is nice but the controls are not very user friendly IMO.. Congrats on the new machine.
The Kubota too back heavy/tilty for me. Even with a bucket on it if it wasn't fully loaded down it was really jerky and hard to be smooth with it. I have been really happy with the Vermeer. Thanks for the comment!
Whats that attachment?
I bought a used Toro dingo tx1000 and a Sod cutter I might trade it in for a Vermeer bc a dealer is closer
Eight for me too
Congrats! For me It feels way better to own and not rent. You will be able to use it on way smaller installations that you wouldn't have entertained before because of having to rent the equipment to do the smaller project. Still high profit margin in smaller sod installations. I use cheap cheap 7 k smaller Chinese modle skid and 3 yard max gas wheel Barrows on sod/ construction jobs. The skid stays at the street and loads up all the gas/ dump wheel barrows. the wheel barrows actually hold more weight than my skid. They hold 9cu ft 1100 pounds.
Wow, that is really interesting about the wheelbarrows. I’ve never seen it done that way, but I would sure entertainment. Do you have any videos of this?
Just posted a short video. They have Hydraulic dump too. I'll post one later of them dumping material
Do u know how to do painting drywall been doing that for 6 years good money 💰
how did you work in the cost to rent the machine per sod job? i see people advertising so low rates per pallet on facebook and such all the time.
So we had a three pallet minimum, to make it feasible for us to rent the equipment to do a job. The cost of the rental got baked into the overall job cost. Now with having my own machine, I’m still charging the client the same amount in a rental fee, but it is going in my pocket now instead of the rental company. So to answer your question, the job just had to be of substantial enough size to make it feasible to rent the equipment.
@FloridaTurfPros ahh okay so no job under 3 pallets. It's just I see ads all the time saying 99 a pallet. Bahia of course but not sure if that's the pallet cost or what there saying for labor
That the cost of sod only@@curbappeallawncarellc4263
Question you do the irrigation work or you sub that out
I sub it out.
Did you get rid of the red ford?
Yep
I was wondering the smae thing. Only see the chevy recently.
Is there a reason? Just like Chevy more?
Ouch $36,000? Need to sod America
the machine will probably pay for itself in one- two years
Brother, you didn't make a mistake
Incorporate the depreciation % calculated per day and factor the payment % you'd like to apply to each "bid" per scope of work in each new job. That way if the numbers work in the right direction, in won't have have a negative impact on ROI.😊
That mini skiddy will make you money like you wouldn't believe.
Clean ups, brush removal, stripping up sod, some precision grading, there is so many attachments for them mini skiddys....Glad you made the purchase and you'll thank yourself before the newness wears out
I'm thrilled.
No I don't... watch this video that explains why: czcams.com/video/4UZXdXtvJo0/video.htmlsi=I_k9SyAL1AuvFZah
