Wow! 5 Stars plus, I grew up on Maynard, had MF Horn , New Vintage , Conquistador, etc. Maynard was the Terminator of Trumpet player, BIG, LOUD, IN YOUR FACE! Love it!!!!!!!

I play trumpet as a hobby I learned thru the years to appreciate the talent and gift of individuals who plays brass instruments. This recording is the highest level of production available. This is pure studio sound and video. Shout out to the mixing engineer(s)and video editor(s). Looks like a family band as well (lots of the same last names). @@deathblossom1153 there are 50 other guys would could nail this part. He is a college level version. IMHO sorry, I was in the 1 o'clock lab band at the University of North Texas. My standards are higher than most.

Alright, this is my second comment but I followed Maynard Ferguson since 1972 until the end. WOW Maynard, you would be so much in your glory listening to this one. With all do respect Maynard, evolution is a reality, therefore, 40 plus years advanced your original version of Rocky by making it there own a bit more. For example, opening high note on trumpet. Mind blowing. Anyway, you get the picture and Maynard, I know that you have listened to over a few thousand times like I have and watched and I can see your amazing smile of approval!!! Ps love to everyone ❤❤❤

Agreed but Maynard was the pioneer brother this just cover. Player only. I played with Maynard. Yeah.
Maynard developed th circular breathing technique because he didn't have a lot of lung capacity, at least that's what he told us at trumpet clinic in 1975. I learned to do that before I ever heard Maynard's recordings. It ain't easy.
@@keithchrysler3732 Maynard could circular breath but it wasn't anything he was doing in performances. He did some theatrics and presentation that looked like he was doing special breathing but I think that was for effect. And you are right that it isn't easy to learn.
Also, I think people miss is that when you play efficiently and know what you are doing you don't use near the quantity of air as someone who hasn't figured it out. Pedal tones are great for learning efficiency of air vs air capacity. Watching Louis Dowdeswell play is actually valuable in showing just how little effort it can take. Once you REALLY figure it out then the range above Eb or so becomes less fatiguing and actually easier than playing in the middle register. Doc told me that the one time I got meet him when I was like 10 and it took me 30 years before I realised he was absolutely right.
