The valve is surprising - The bottom flanged connection is the pressure side (air comes in; water comes in when air is relieved, or backs out as air comes in); the top flanged connection is the air outflow side. Also, to use this air vent effectively, there should be an air separator in the horizontal flow line; without an air separator, most of the bubbles will flow past the vertical branch (which is somehow connected without a tee or weld).

Poor animation. I couldn't figure it out until I realized it shows non-flowing water as moving clouds, and gas flow as moving bubbles. (Useless!)
