Lovely along here, and the cripple path 😊
Fantastic, I’m waiting….
You and me both!
This whole area reminds me of when we used to stay at the Old Park Hotel as a kid ❤
A long time since I did that walk. Nice to hear your commentary along the way. I remember the days driving all the way through. So peaceful and quiet there now. And usually no people...just how I like it! x J x
Glad you enjoyed it
Enjoyed this... the last time i saw any of this was your videos after the 2014 slip! Could you do more, i havent heard mooching for some time!
Great video Stefan. Love that walk through the old Undercliff drive. Did it in May last year.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video to end the year on!!
The lovely and mysterious undercliff - much better for everyone now it's closed for through traffic. I walked down there before it fell and there were cars coming at you from both ways every few minutes.
That tunnel is a nice way of getting up to Niton.
Stonelands WAS still active when I went down there in April / May. I think a young family run it - at least they were there in 2022 as I spoke to them whilst looking for the cave. It looks a bit more developed now.
1:40 - That rock is quite noticeable even though it is covered in growth.
Undercliff Drive has been closed to traffic since Feb 2014. I recall walking down there when they were repairing it all and coming across huge, tall metal gates - the only way through was through the wood. There's quite a few bus stops still down there. I guess SV were hoping that the road would re-open and have now forgot about them?
4:15 - That Cripple path is a sheer delight.
There's a decent article online about Francis Bacon - died 25th Feb 1892 after a fall from his horse whilst out riding - he was only 12 years 9 months old. Another article boasts a picture of him. Poor lad.
5:00 - Those dark green plants fluttering around in the foreground are all over the woods down there - they have a name but I can't remember it!
I ventured down to Mirables for the first time ever this April. A magical building - the whole pad was surrounded by cars but I think it is still a private residence.
Compass tree still looks pretty good for its age.
9:22 - that's the path into the wood. Looks like there was something there some time back but there doesn't seem to be anything marked on the old maps. I think this must be what they called Woodington where the road used to go down to the lower road and Old Park. Maybe it was just a stone gateway being a route down to the Hotel, etc?
11:00 - that place I think is holiday accommodation but I've never seen anybody there - I think it's a sheer drop at the back - as you rightly say it all fell away 10 years back. That sign (Far Out..) is new. I don't recall seeing that earlier this year, nor that mobile caravan in the yard.
Any cyclists?
Wishing you a very Happy and Prosperous New Year!
5.00 are tongues hart ferns.
9.22 the pathway leads to spindlers follies and the old mill remains at Binnel Bay.
Film on my CZcams channel somewhere.
Is the memorial for the little boy still along the road?!
It is still there, mentioned in this film. 👍
Does anyone know where the caves are down here been looking most of today but couldn't find them 🤔
Opposite side of the road from Mirables inland.
Between Mirables driveway and the turning area where the St Lawrence sign is.
Look for a couple of stone steps on the edge of the road between the stone wall.
Thank me later.
@ISLEOFWIGHTARCHIVE thank you 😊
what do you mean ,family seat of the middletons?
You've answered your own question.
