  • Steroids are more popular than heroin. In fact, by some estimates, they are the second most popular illicit drug, after cannabis.
And we need to talk about it.
Why are people using steroids? What are the effects? And why do users often not even think of themselves as “drug users”?
We dive deep into the world of steroids, and ask what this massive, unexplored drugs scene tells us about the way we think about bodies, masculinity and drug use in general.

I think a big problem with steroids is the way they are normalized in pop culture as well. You don't even have to look at bodybuilding pros to see steroids in use. Chris Hamsworth as Thor, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. they are just two examples of people who are, at least obvious to people who work out, on gear.

Exactly. And what troubles me is their 'motivation' or 'grind' videos with millions of views perpetuates these expectations of what hard work can achieve. With expectations like that boys become frustrated by comparatively smaller results, even if those results are massive and to be proud of.

Townshend is objectively wrong. In a study, participants were provided either a steroid or a placebo, and both groups were further divided into two sub-groups, which were instructed to either exercise on a regular schedule or avoid exercise entirely. At the end of the trial period, the participants who took steroids but did not exercise had higher muscle growth than the participants that took the placebo and regularly exercised.

I am not endorsing steroids at all. I've been dealing with HIV and AIDS for over 30 years and there was a six-month. Where my doctor put me on human growth hormone to try to get some weight and muscle back on me. It was the most incredible stuff I've ever seen in my life! It was exactly like I was 18 years old again. Everything I ate be it protein or fat or carbohydrates turned immediately into muscle. My hair grew faster and my nails grow faster I had more energy then I've had since I was a teenager. The problem is you can't keep your body ramped-up like this forever. And if you have a little tiny tumor somewhere human growth hormone acts like fertilizer on it. It is not a benign drug but used correctly it can be remarkable.

Household names like Dwayne Johnson has normalized steroid bigness the same way Arnold did via film. Both have done family and young adult action films. A gym member who was 5-6 years older than me taught me some exercises and told me how muscular and vascular his body was a few years ago. He then showed me his chest and I noticed that he had swollen nipples even though he wasn't high in body fat. His explanation for this condition was: Since I don't exercise as actively as I used to, I got fat deposits in my chest. He also told me about problems in his joints. I’ve run all the gear before, now only do TRT! Gyno is mainly from poor diet while on gear, doing hard cardio and keeping diet in check will prevent most. Also not blasting stupid dosages like 250mg/week and above. Tren can lead to a different issue, prolactin build up.
Most males already have some gyno from puberty or being overweight, also vascularity does not go away once the gear stops, as your red blood cell count will stay elevated unless you donate blood.

One thing this video didn't address is the increase of fly-by-night HRT clinics. Younger males-as young as 19-are able to get prescribed Testosterone and other androgens, even if their testosterone levels are within the normal range. This is problematic because social media fitness influencers endorse these clinics-as well as offer promo codes for them. That along with heavy SARM usage among teenagers has led younger males to mess around with their endocrine system at such a young age.

I did inject testosterone enanthate in low doses at age 55 for about 8 months and took anavar during that time as well. Haven't used since. Bodybuilding is about turning weaknesses into strengths. As much as I hate my structure, I love my health more. I don't judge others for their choices however.

One day I went to check in to see how he was doing because I noticed that he'd became increasingly depressed he rolled up his arm to show me a wound he had since he last injected himself. It was a large black hole which was very inflamed around the edges, he wouldn't go see a doctor so the best I could do for him was to clean his wound and dress it. After a while he started to get a nasty constant cough which was evident everything I saw him, I recognised the signs that he could have had lung cancer because i have it i begged him to go get checked out. That was 10 years ago now and I haven't seen him since, his health was worse tha mine and i had stage 4 lung cancer, he just disappeared and I'm scared that after all these year's I can't help but think that he has died.

To a certain degree, its not linear. Its like you changed your genetic baseline for muscle retention/growth. Unforturnately a lot of studies do not really take into account the relative affect on a trained individual to an un-trained. If you are natural and training and take steroids but stop training (of course this is all relative, how advanced of a lifter you are and how much you take/what you take etc) you will most likely lose strength and mass. I am currently still a natural lifter (I compete in powerlifting recreationally) but my coach has spoken to me about the path of gear if I am to choose that road. As I am somewhat advanced (3.5 x BW deadlift, 3x BW squat, 2x BW bench, roughly ofc), if I am to take steroids for it to be worthwile I will need to increase the intensity of my training to see the true benefits of them. (I know steroids in strength sports are used differently to bodybuilding, but we take the same drugs, just different cycles and peaking techniques etc)

Most people in my area that sell simply buy them and have them shipped from overseas; it is not difficult, and they are cheap.

I know kids at 16-18 years old who still take them, but my uncle was a full time body builder, he died with a heart condition and it said the high level of steroids in his system probably brought it on. Dont do it, its not worth it, you don't know what your injecting into yourself and if someone doesn't like you the way u are, then they ain't for u. A lot of steroids were developed for medical use for example in cases of muscle degenerative diseases. 'Steroids' is a blanket term, but ultimately these hormones are often developed to literally make your muscles grow.

She is wrong about the "steroids alone won't give you results". Studies show that a moderate dose of testosterone (around 400mg) makes physically non-active users outperform dedicated weight lifters in regard to hypertrophy.
Therefore, the problem with bodybuilding is that success within the sport is more bound to the actual hormonal situation your body is in than in any other sports as hypertrophy directly correlates with androgen levels in the body (in addition to other PED's like growth hormone, insulin, peptides etc.).
This has lead to a situation where professionals in the sport pin themselves often more than 10x times a day (including gh and insulin) to maximise results.

While many anabolic drugs certainly help you workout harder and recover quicker, many of these substances will make you more muscular without any resistance training. Obviously not to the same degree, but still to a significant, measurable extent. Depending on the dosage, multiple studies have found that, if given enough of an anabolic substance, non-resistance training groups grow more muscle in the short term than drug-free resistance training groups. Similar to how a teenager can often gain some muscle merely because they are going through adolescence and have increased androgenic hormones in their system.

The only things I found super questionable is the needle line story and the "dark web" steroids are openly sold world wide on sites you can find on google on the open web and either shipped domestically or shipped illegally into your country through a neighboring country where it is legal for example Mexico to America or in Europe usually from like Poland, Greece to whatever EU country you live in. No need to buy from shady guy who bought it from the "dark web" from like Pakistani lab anymore in most places.

That's comical because I think it's ridiculous and not accurate what so ever . I'm well versed in kinesiology, biochemistry, nutrition and supplementation, endocrinology, the mechanisms of action involved in AAS use and the compounds themselves. This lady is talking ridiculous, first there is little to no actual vast enough , peer reviewed, double blind easily duplicated studies to show it has negative effects on our health, organs or lifespan.. also her story about 5 people being inject at once in the gym is hilarious hqhaha such a bulkshit made up tale. Hundreds of millions of people use steroids or have and 98% live full healthy lives.

No one buys juice on the dark web and it haven't been sold in any quantity in gyms since like the 90s at best. Underground labs mostly make novel compounds or so called frakenstein compounds not the common stuff most people use.

I see you’ve seen that 20 week study too. The 17lbs “lean” mass was likely half water and half muscle. The muscle probably was gained within the first 12 weeks. I guarantee you if that patient never came off that dosage and didn’t train at all he wouldn’t build a pound more muscle. You can’t expect continual growth on the same roid dose without progressive overload.
