A lot of zen going into laying mulch for sure. I don't take out that cleaning shoe or shanks for my first pass, might try that next year. We're so heavy and clay I can't get the soil as loose in a bed like you do so I have to rototill it after a few rains, then lay mulch. Deep tilling with 15 inch ripper is what I do here but it's tough to get enough shatter.
