    Love the videos, I'm planning on watching them all!
    A couple questions: Does the controller board save your scenes/chases when the unit is turned off? Also, when you were going through the individual slider functions, channel 4 was brightness and we wanted that at max value. What happens to that value when you switch to page 2 of functions and need to adjust channel 12? I guess I'm wondering if the controller only registers slider values when you move them, not their current position. I'm having trouble explaining my question clearly, but I'd appreciate your input/answers!

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for the kind words and good questions! Yes, thankfully the board remembers the scenes/chases when turned off.
      When you switch to the second page of functions, the original fader settings are left untouched. When you switch back to a fader setting you have programmed and move the fader, it will jump to the current position of that selected fader. Hope that makes sense and appreciate you watching...

I had a cheap DMX Controller, but couldn't get it to work , so have bought a Chauvet 40 DJ, However I still can't get the Lights to work and any advice would be helpful. I'm not sure if the Lights are set properly and don't know how to set them. I set the first light to D001, and the I.P 01. after that I'm stumped as what to do. Fader 1 will bring all the lights on when it is about half way up, but the other faders 2,3,4 don't doo anything at all.

    thanks for this, i do have a question. A friend bought some of these (similar brand) for her fitness studio and theyre on auto but def need some programming, this seems easily do-able for me... but I am wondering if you can program the splines to fade/scan back and forth like when in auto mode instead of just a fixed position (angle).. like auto mode just not "epilepsy" fast lol thanks

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 3 lety

      Yes- (and I know what you mean about "epilepsy" mode ha ha)
      In DMX mode you can set both the position of each tin (Channels 1 & 2) and the speed that they move (Channel 3) So if you program one scene with the tins out, and a second scene with them in and have the speed set to slow, they will move very slowly when you change scenes. This can be a dramatic effect. Hope that helps and good luck with the fitness studio light show!

One question though, I have this exact same DMX controller, as well as another 384 channel controller, and with both I'm having this problem with saved scenes getting lost after re-entering the program mode. In other words, see how you initially save scenes 1 & 2 and exit program mode, then return to program mode to ad the auto mode on scene 3, often when I do this my scenes 1 & 2 will have gone but scene 3 would be saved. Pretty confused and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong in program mode that is erasing previously stored scenes. Any ideas? Thanks.

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před rokem

      Hmm- I'm not sure whats wrong. Can you get any scenes to save? Make sure you are pressing the "Midi/Add" button and then the location you want to save the scene. I believe the unit holds the programs in memory with an internal battery. Its possible that its dead (but unlikely)

    • @LearnLizard

      When the controller triggers a scene, it sends a single dmx message for that particular one. If the scene is programmed as a continuous or looping look on the fixture itself, then it will keep playing until the controller sends a command for a new scene. I hope that helps.

Should it just be in dmx mode on the device . Mind you when I go to auto presets this does not happen. Just on sound activation mode thru the board. Any suggestions.thank u

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for the kind words. I thought the only way to access "sound active" via DMX, was to have the fixture in DMX mode. I can't understand how you would get it to work any other way with a controller. Each light is probably "listening" to the sound/music independently and thats why they are not in sync. You could try setting them both to the same DMX starting address, or maybe slave them together in master/slave mode. Hope that helps and curious to know what you figure out.

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 4 lety

      Hi and thanks for your kind words! Its very easy to connect the 2 fixtures and synchronize them with DMX. Just connect your controller to "DMX IN" on the first one, and run a cable from "DMX OUT" on that one to "DMX IN" on the second one. (this is called "daisy chaining") If you set both lights to the same DMX channel they will be synchronized exactly like you see in the video. Good luck with your light show!

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 3 lety

      Yes- You could set different types of lights to the same DMX starting address (I think that is what you mean) However it would not make sense because each light probably has its different functions on different channels, so the programming would be unpredictable. For example if you moved the fader on channel 2 it might move the pan on your moving head but also bring up the blue on your PAR light. Hope that makes sense.

      Hi - I'm not sure exactly what effect you are trying to get, but if you programmed a series of scenes with the uplights in a different color in each scene and the spiders exactly the same in each scene, when you ran a chase made from those scenes, you would have the effect of the uplights chasing colors and the spiders not. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 4 lety +1

      Great question! If you set the movement speed on the fixture via DMX the change takes place immediately, so it would follow the speed setting of the scene you just triggered from the controller. If running a chase, the Fade Time on the controller would have to be set to “0”. Hope that makes sense and appreciate you watching…

    Question can the dmx follow along with the music or is it only to program patterns?

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 3 lety

      Good question. DMX can't sync to music on its own, but on some lights you can use DMX to turn on sound active mode (which can be very useful) Also if your controller or software controller have sound active functions, they can send that information to the lights via DMX. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 4 lety +3

      Interesting question! If you put the same kind of fixtures in Master/Slave mode and daisy chain together, they will all be synchronized to the sound-active or auto mode of the Master. You could use more than one set of similar fixtures in master/slave and they should all sync to the same sound they are "hearing" in sound-active. Please post a video if you get something set up.

    And how can I combine this with other lights that have deep switches thanks

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 3 lety

      Older lights use DIP switches to set the DMX starting address. So to combine with the spider beam light you would set the starting address on the older light to a starting address of "1" for example. This would be fixture 1 on the Elation Operator. Because it is a 12 channel controller, the second fixture it controls will need a DMX starting address of "13", so you would set the Spider Beam to that address in the menu controls. Here's a basic tutorial that helps explain DMX channels and how to set: czcams.com/video/dJQAZsNwcv4/video.html

      Hi- It sounds to me like the Spider Light isn't in DMX mode. You need to press the menu button until you see "Addr" (this is the DMX starting address) It should say "001" Then press enter and make sure you are using "fixture" or "scanner" 1 on your controller and also that you are in "program mode" Hopefully that will get everything working.

      The Elation Operator works very similar to the Lixada controller in the video (or a Chauvet Obey 40 such as in my introductory videos) Basically you need to make sure the DMX starting address on the fixture (which is set in the menu controls) matches the DMX starting address of the fixture you have selected on the controller. I returned it, not without a fuss & I've since tried all of the other variants available...none control that speed via any DMX channel?
