The purpose of the story is to explain how Hercules took Zeus's place...& Athena is secretly nuts.
My problem with it is Thor is from Norse mythology and Zeus is from Greek mythos. Otherwise, good story!
You miss the point entirely. It's "the hero's journey" set to an interdimensional epic. In the end, the rest of the story is backdrop for the singular hero's story arc. At least that's my interpretation.
Yes quite true.. Although.. The hero's journey is represented in the story's arc. Thus its a package deal for the story. One is a representation of ones own lessons in learning. Each to their own. ~_~

SMV L the living tribunal maintains magical balance not universal. The chaos king wasnt affecting magic in the universe so technically speaking he shouldnt be summoned for this.

Chaos king was created by oblivion and oblivion is above the tribunals judgment so it’s possible his creations are as well
Maybe the LT was still seeking guidance from TOAA. LT is powerful, but Chaos King is the aspect of Oblivion(0.01% of Oblivion's true power). The LT could just wipe out Mikaboshi but i think he would still come back. Thats whye the LT maybe just sat on his couch watching it all happen on his 70 inch flat screen tv with popcorn.
Perhaps chaos king was personally inside Zeus, then protected him from Galactus' attack. When Hercules attacked he could have just let the blow happen, to get him to open the portal to that God realm.
Greg Pak said that Zeus used his own power against Galactus

Chaos King didn’t die, he was Banished but was satisfied there.
Yeah I was thinking a powerful being like that shouldn't be able to die just by being thrown in the Void. And he did want it to be just darkness and well...Hercules and the other heros granted him that. I'm glad he's content where he is.
Eternal Sentry He was put in a place where he would be forever fed it was a plot end, but hardly a defeat more like giving Galactus another planet to eat to spare Earth😂

He says there was no real purpose for this story since things went back to how they were. But maybe the point was to show just how bad things could go. How close it could come to everything going out forever. Thanos with the Infinite Gauntlet has been seen as the end, but really it was an end to much of life, but not of reality itself. The threat posed by oblivion, not the cosmic entity per say, but the literal end of all things, is what was shown in this story.
I think at the end of the day, these events have a message for the reader. Continuity is retcon'd all the time so what does any outcome matter in anything comics related? The final panels wherein Herc establishes himself as a hero is pretty worthwhile in and of itself. Maturation comes in many ways and takes many forms and sometimes when it happens nobody sees and even more so you could very well find yourself back at square one after the fact. Regardless, it's almost kinda relatable
The equivalent of Valhalla for Greek mythos is a split of the fields of Elysium and for demigods specially chosen by the gods they go to Olympus as demigods

Yeah it could be biblical satan and that would be the father and Damien but the hell lords are dormammu hela Mephisto and that satan there are the other two but Idk what their names are

There are a lot of demons that claim to be Satan in Marvel but none of them really are and none of the demons (mephisto Satannish, Dormammu, etc) even know if Satan ever existed. The closest thing we got is Lucifer who is basically Biblical Satan in the fact that Lucifer (in both the Bible and in Marvel) led a rebellion against God and was cast out of Heaven.
@@carteralexander3671 so Damien Hellstrom aka Son of Satan is not...really the Son of Satan. He received his powers through a demon who claimed to be Satan but wasn’t Satan at all. As I said in my last comment, a ton of demons love to refer to themselves as Satan because he’s the cool dude.

Pretty sure in Greek mythology their "Heaven" is in Hades as well. Hades is just the afterlife period, with different sections.

It wasn't. Elysium was only put into hades in Virgil, Aeneid, Book VI.The entire religion before then had it as a seperate place - don't take all your real world facts from games mate, or at least check before talking shite :)

I think Rob is spot on in his final analysis. The stakes are equal to Secret War but not nearly as epic, so it just feels overblown with no narrative purpose.

You touched on the exact issue I thought of after Jane Foster sacrificed herself. The sacrifice became pointless, the battle with cancer became the same, because they just briught her back immediately. Any investment in comic books is marred by the fact that no one truly dies, and everyone can just be brought back, and that is why their big stories fail, because we know there's no consequence for anything. Even when they're imprisoned they simply escape. Comic books kill any emotional attachment because at the end of the day, nothing happened. Nobody loses anythimg and that's crappy story telling no matter how good the concept may be. I suggest they emulate anime. And let stuff end.
I know I'm super late to your comment and this video but I'm glad someone says it. I love a good chunk of these characters and I like superhero comics alot but after a while these sort of things just feel meaningless since they in essence eventually just go back to the same way as they began. I'd like something like marvel ultimates again, where for the most part, events were concrete and when people died they stayed dead.

I liked chaos war. One of the best parts is it came out the same time as the cosmic. Heros had their cancer verse story so elements such as the deathless sleep and dead heroes rising in Chaos War added to the stakes of the assault on death in the cancerverse storyline.

It specifically has the power to destroy anything it’s used on, and yes that does include cosmic beings like galactus, order and chaos, the living tribunal, the embodiment of the universe (who I forgot the name of), and by extension, the chaos king
Like TLT the nullifier has been overused and should only be used when the writer writes himself into a box. But yeah, it can create or destroy multiverses and timelines as well as multiversal embodiments. Herc needed his time to shine and not be a complete idiot, so... that's what we got.

I actually did find the pay off to be worth it. A happy ending for all. Comics, movies and TV shows these days are all about doom and gloom and shock value.

Yeah Rob you're not quite right about the Living Tribunal. Like in Marvel's Cosmic titles he used to show up all the time as just kind of not so much a plot device but more like... A narrator.
He used to just kind of be the narrator deliverer of exposition it a lot of stories. Like I remember reading a Silver Surfer comic in the 90s where he took some alien on a tour of the inside of a Celestial. And for like no reason really. That was just what that story was about, it was like hey what are the inner workings of a Celestial like? It went nowhere.
am sure hes not dead but just locked away,at some point he'll find a way out of that bubble universe. .
Rewatching this while following Knull currently wreaking havoc on Earth. I'm seeing a lot of parallels between the two evil dark bad things of before creation (Side DC think of The Dr. MadBatman Who Laughs). Then there's the One Below All with aspects of itself but then Chaos King is a parallel of Eternity.... and Knull had a conflict with a parallel being of light(or just opposite) that seems to be reaching out and I guess hey comics! Happy Holidays!

I mean the panel at 28:05 makes it pretty obvious that Chaos King is still in control so why wouldn't he also just feign losing to Hercules?

Im sure someone said it already but the olympian alternative to valhalla is the Elyisian Fields, rserved for only the greatest of heroes, so basically only a small fraction make it in there. I think the minimum entry requirement is dying in battle while being acknowledged as a true hero, meaning you need to have some accolades accrued before you die.
Its basically like paradise earth and spa, I think beautifu women serve you, but I am not sure how are why they are there canonically.
8:05, there actually is! The land of Hades is not necessarily Hellish, despite certain shitty movies depict it to be. Hades is a realm where anyone goes, and it is divided into multiple sections:
Fields of Asphodel: Where the average ordinary person goes.
Mourning Fields: Where those that wasted their lives for love go.
Elysium: This is where your average good guy goes.
Fields of Punishment: Self-explanatory.
Tartarus: The hell of hell, Tartarus is a living dimension where entities like evil titans and monsters are banished to, as well as tyrant kings.

I just kinda realized that marvel has flushed out hell its dimensions, its bosses down to the chaos king and the one below all (side question: is the chaos king in league with the one below all or an aspect of him?) But marvel has rarely gone the other direction and flushed out the heavens and its bosses and the one above all. I know the angels and archangels exist and rule over a part of heaven (at least when ghost rider had to fight them), and the one above all has appeared at times but it seems he is outside/ above "heaven". Can anyone clarify?

I believe The Living Tribunal (TLT) did not appear because of Eternity, TLT can only act if all three heads are in agreeance. And since Eternity is brother to Chaos, I see disagreement among the heads of the TLT Given the nature of cosmic balance. TLT wasn't mention because of comic common sense.
