    I’ve looked through the comments, and so far no one has dealt with the corned beef issue-so here goes:
    When Irish immigrants of the 1840s got to New York and eventually were able to afford food that they hadn’t grown themselves, they discovered corned beef in local delicatessens owned by their Jewish neighbors. They added a traditional colcannon, made with cabbage or kale, potatoes (of course) and leeks; and voilà- the Irish American “Jiggs and Maggie” dinner was born. Needless to say, there are many variations on this theme. But the corned beef motif came from the Jewish community in New York. That’s my understanding! ☺️☘️

This thing of irish people not knowing it made me question the world, i started thinking is it like the coddle mostly a dub thing, so i asked an 89 year old Meath woman as im from Dublin if it was a thing in her family and sure enough it is and always has been according to her . So now im thinking is it a Leinster thing or what. BTW all my family never traveled or emigrated we all stuck pretty tight to the same area for the last 200 year as far as i can see.

    • @hoozle
      @hoozle Před 2 lety +2

      @@BeautyBelldoogosupreme I'm from the Munster area. My understanding is that Irish immigrants to NY ate corn beef and cabbage...maybe it was cheaper than pork in the US at the time?...and when some of them returned to Ireland, they brought it with them. It became a sort of status symbol in Ireland as beef was more expensive than pork but I think the corn beef we eat today is different to American corm beef. We call it silverside. I also grew up eating ham and cabbage as well as rib and cabbage but my favourite is corn beef. I think ham and cabbage is the most common thing in Ireland. And spuds of course, always spuds! Caitríona cleared up the St Paddy's Day (vs the incorrect "Patty" ) and no one eating corned beef in Ireland, and now Jamie has introduced the tayto sambo - well done lads!
    Needs be butter though Jamie... mayo 🤢
    And I'd have to argue salt & vinegar defo better, and Brennan's 🍞

    You can tell he's from Holywood. Culchies love cornbeef and it's a tayto sandwich with just Kingsmill/hovis bread, golden cow butter and tayto crisps.

    Those Tayto guys were so astute to put the finest potato crisps in the world into wee yellow bags for the "Nordies", especially the fife and drum beating ones. Tayto, brought to you by the "Free State"😂😂.

    Well I go by Patti short for Patricia. I was always told that the male version is Paddy (aka Patrick). I've got to get my hands on some Tayto cheese and onion crisps, cause cheese and onion is my favourite!

    In high school… My sandwiches were tuna salad with smashed ripple chips (Old Dutch brand) If there was no lettuce in the sandwich, It was just too quiet😂

    I would never eat potato chips inside a ham sandwich (just no) but Jamie's food cravings are adorable. Lol he's so fun to watch/listen to in interviews.

    He is such a brave guy, his Dad had recently died and I'm glad Jimmy was kind enough not to even mention that because it would have been too much when Jamie was working to promote his series and be his charming self.

    Born and raised in northern Ireland and I can honestly say I don't know a single person alive that's ever had that version of a crisp sandwich.
