I've been planning a "memories" book as an anniversary gift for my husband. Initially was planning just regular coptic stitch using our wedding colors. I love this idea! Now I need to decide whether I should use our initials, wedding date or the number of years we've been married.

I just got to know your channel. I learned kettle stitch and french binding. I find this new hobby exquisite. It is cheap ( a total of $35 for both paper, thread, cardboard and tools), very fancy, but most importantly, it is one of the most profitable. I bought 2000 sheets of paper. Folding one in half gets me 4 pages. I have 8000 pages. For $35. A cheap shop next to me sells 120 pages long empty notebooks (which are exactly the same format as the ones I can bind myself for $2 each) : $100 would be necessary for me to get 8000 pages worth of them. I get to only spend ~1/3 of it.
    I love it. Thank you

I'm binge watching a bunch of book binding videos with the express purpose of making a custom dnd journal, and after watching this, the temptation to be so extra as to write my character's name in the stitching along the spine is palpable.
Or to be even more extra I could write it in goddamn elven for no reason.
Downside: Last time I hand bound a book was 8 years ago, and it looked really bad. Granted, I was 12. I would hope my hand eye coordination and general motor skills have improved at least a little, especially since I got really into hand stitching about 3 years ago. But am I willing to take that gamble, especially since I plan on aging every page one at a time? Who's to say. Only time will tell.

Jennifer you are a very talented young Lady and to share this video with us viewers is absolutely awesome. Thank you for showing all the close ups as well as talking it through, you may not be aware of this, but you have given me confidence to try and make some of the things that you do, purely because you give clear instructions and, of course, the close ups. Thank you so much.

This is incredible! I tried the letter "K" for my friend before this came out and messed up in the middle... I had to tie a knot inside and loop through the same hole again so the thread won't come off or look shabby when I was doing yhe diagonal part. I may not have been good at explaining this but all I want to say is I had a really fun time making that book and now that you have posted this, with your tips, I am gonna try and make even better journals. Jennifer, you're the best!

Hello dear...my nephew is off to Uni this September and I thought I might make him a hard cover for a paperback book he requested for his 18th birthday... so I discovered your channel when I put "make hard cover for paperback" or something like that - having found the clip I needed, your calming voice was like meditation! Which I shall no doubt need as I scream in frustration when I find it fiddly and difficult in practice something which you make seem so effortlessly easy on film! A bit like exercise tapes!!
So I cast around a bit and encountered this delightful suggestion - so me being me I shall now have to embroider something on the cover like "learn" or "flourish" but in Latin or Old English given he's doing Medieval and Modern Languages.. ..I think using the words as binding may be a step too far😆

I used your travelers journal tutorial a few years back to make a music book for my character at the medieval faire (I was on cast not just going out there taking audiences away from people). I've been wanting to improve upon it and was thinking about using coptic stitch instead of removable signatures of the travelers journal. It would be so cute to stitch "TUNES" or "MUSIC" with maybe lil music notes on the end of the spine!! I've got other projects to do first but this has got me thinking...

I have followed your tutorials and learnt the stitch from them.
Would I be correct that while stitching …even though the word has been transferred to the spine it may be necessary at times based on the letters "make " them fit by following the shape of the letter and not so much the actual punched hole……?

    Questions:
Is there potentially a way to bind a book out a hard straight up canvas and single sheets of paper instead of signatures?

    • @masondevries4482
      @masondevries4482 Před 2 lety

I don't know about canvas, but I have bound my old journals using single sheets of paper before.
However, for large numbers of pages, it is a PAIN to stitch thread into the back of every single sheet of paper. The last time I did this, I bound about 400 sheets of paper, and stitching them all together too about 8 hours over several days.
      Hope that helps!

i have a little sewing suggestion for thick materials: if you own more than one needle, longer ones are easier to hold, and thinner ones are easier to pass through (it depends on the holes and the thread too)
