- #keybored Is A $160 "ENTRY" Keyboard Good As The Mr. Suit? QK80 by Qwertykeys
You know... these days I'm not even sure what is an "Entry" or "budget" board anymore... honestly these OPP boards are starting to look, feel and sound like the more expensive, $300+ boards... then why do those exists? I'm really starting to question that myself. The QK80 is the prime example... this thing definitely could cost more... and no one will complain.

How the hobby has grown in the last 2 years is just amazing..
Expensive does not always mean the best irrespective of what people say.
Thanks for showing this amazing comparison!
You got it! The hobby definitely has changed and for the better imo
Scott! Thanks for getting a review out for this board. QwertyKeys is definitely dominating right now with these "entry" level boards. Oh man and the paisley badge they have is just "chef's kiss"! Thanks again for all of the great keyboard content and in depth reviews. Your time and involvement in the mechanical keyboard community is much appreciated! Keep it up man!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Really encouraging!
The spacebar of the qk80 might sound a little bit hollow, but i actually prefer it over the mr. suit as it has a nice pop! love the build with the jasmine set! just ate my pasta while watching this video, such a treat~
Didn't expect to see u here :D
:) hope the pasta was good!
@@Keybored it was :D
@@sweepyspud what why not? :0
Agreed! My QK80 is dangerously close to the Suit I used to own, it's just not as flexible nor as bouncy. But otherwise this thing goes hard!
Thank you for making amazing videos, you are the reason I got both the qk65 and zoom65 (should have held on for the qk80) the perfect switches, and awesome caps. I show your videos to anyone who wants to go past prebuilts like epo's white boxes, gmmk, and keychron - it's best not to overwhelm newcomers as it is already overwhelming for them and your videos help.
the way that a few years ago a board like this would have been wayyyyyyy more expensive than i could ever even think about affording shows just how much the hobby has grown and advanced :')
QwertKeys is kind of killing it not gonna lie
They really are... Making it hard for others lol
For sure, but the problem always is that a lot of these really good custom keyboards aren't ISO compatible or don't offer a Nordic layout option.
why are you lying
are you serious ?
@Chris K QwertyKeys has the edge in terms of quality but falls short in availability
Loving the aesthetics of the QK80! Hopefully we get to see cool custom magnetic badges in the future... Great content as always Scott!
That would be really cool! Some more options on the badges
If I didn't already regret joining the GB for the Freebird TKL, I definitely do now. The QK80 completely out-classes it and costs less. Another great video Scott!
First english QK80 video!!! I've been waiting so long and so glad I passed up the Zoom TKL and held out hope lol. Quality content as always!
Thank you so much!
Been waiting for you to review this keyboard. Thank you for the quality content provided!
Absolutely!
I received my QK75 about three weeks ago now. It's an endgame board for me. I absolutely need wireless, and this was the first board to offer good quality wireless, an aluminum body, and a knob. I'm in love, it will be the board my hands type on for quite a while.
tyvm for support!
great to see QK continuing the good work!
I wonder what's next! I would like to see some crazy innovations on an Owlabs board also!
I'm definitely getting the qk80 and using those keycaps. That color combo is killer!
I see I chose the right time to get into the hobby. :)
Looks like the QK80 will become my first custom board.
I'm not even into TKLs and this is an easy cop. Count me in! Thanks for another awesome vid, Scott!
From FBTKL, then Tiger 80, then Zoom TKL, and now QK80, the so called "entry TKL" keeps getting improved and has better value than ever. We can't help to feel regret when joining GB for one of those coz the newer one always nicer 😅 Even if I join this QK80, I might feel the same when the next thing come out lol
These QK products are just insane in value and performance. I finally got my hands on a QK65 recently and I'm blown away by the difference when compared to other entry level boards like KBD67Lite, Bakeneko65, Tofu65, the QK65 blows all of them out of the water.
how did you just get the qk65? or did u join the r2 restock gb
@@halashao9415 I got an extras unit sold from R1 groupbuy on ashkeebs, I belive they are all sold out now.
You have single-handedly sold me on every QK board. After this, I will have purchased every board in their lineup.
Omg! Lol I'm sorry
YES! a new video! I always love your videos, they go in depth are more thoughtful rather than the average "thocc".
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the review Scott, it’s crazy to see such a quality tkl at this price point! I’ll admit the form factor isn’t for me, but I’d really love to see them come back and revisit a 60% or 65% with the plateless mounting and maybe a slightly more premium price point. If they’re selling the volume needed to start a TKL at $150, I’d love to see what $250 could do in a 60-65. Any chance you’re planning a mode envoy review?
From what I know, the Qk65 may end up getting a revamp. Let's hope!
@@Keybored That would be fantastic! These days I'm honestly just not interested in anything that doesn't have a usb-c daughterboard, and I'm really glad they've moved way from that since the QK65.
i used to love deep sound , but now, feeling the board sounds better without foam.
And I agree, QK series is always more premium feeling as a whole package. Anodization/coating, the carrying case, etc...etc. Can never go wrong with QK boards.
i missed out on the mr. suit, and was thinking of getting the zoom. it is your fault i got the QK80, so thank you :) i absolutely love this board and glad i missed out on the mr. suit and didn't overpay for something that way cheaper and is almost identical.
I thought the QK65 was originally supposed to be a restocking board, but all the QK boards since then have been group buys. I really hope that changes.
group buy is open rn tho
@@natetollett5515 Group buy open rn ≠ can afford the board rn, or anytime soon.
@@CatchiestWorm12 damn, rip my dude 🫡
They have an in stock board now
been waiting for the tkl layout need to get this one
They finally made it!
The QK80 that I customized (with the Tri-Mode Hotswap ISO PCB) and ordered in the EU costs w/o switches and caps already 275 EUR. So from that perspective it is also price-wise rather not entry level as its final price will be around 500 EUR (w/o shipment).
Another excellent video mate. You produce quality content and super happy to see you cross over to the 100k subscribers.
On the topic of the QK80, I can't help but think that it's a step back from QK75. The form factor is actually so beautiful but the sound signature is super disappointing to me. I thought QK60 was a step up from QK65 and QK75 was their best one yet. I'd have to rank the QK80 around QK65 in terms of sound signature/quality. But looks wise it's the best one yet.
This looks like such a premium board and thanks for the showcase! I wonder if you or someone will try to tape mod this and what the results will be
It'll Def make the board sound more full!
Now THIS is what I'm looking for from qk, a TKL keyboard that'll be the jack of all trades for me, and a GREAT coat of green to boot!
Beautiful colors!
How are the London fogs compared to other recent linears? Some of the newer switches are going long stem and I am wondering if the typing and sound is very drastic in comparison. How was the feel when you swapped your switches while doing the mr suit test?
I was waiting for this vid 😊
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@Keybored Thanks, I always do and I am getting this keeb for sure.
9:59 OK BUT THAT SPACE BAR!!! thats my dream spacebar sound how does it even sound like that?!?
I’m def pre-ordering one of these.
Keybored uploads just makes my day better
great vid! for sound and feel, do you prefer tiger or this?
same thoughts before you said your thoughts between the qk80 vs mr.suit. mr suit sounded much more cleaner and the qk80 has a more pronounced deeper sound but is not as clean and detailed sounding as the mr suit. but man, the qk80 is such a phenomenal board for its price.
Another banger of a video! Loved it! Do we know when the Group Buy is going to take place?
Thank you! qwertykeys.notion.site/QK80-d3c6ade3daec4dbd8e4d7ba605d54641
I feel that the mr suit sounds much better, even with the mostly uniform pe foam sound. Mr suit sounds more open than the qk80 without really sounding hollow. But the qk80 slaps at is price point, planing on picking one up.
Damn it, I didnt need another one. Guess I got to sell my FBTKL, real tough decision shocked I know, for this banger. Thanks for the video
The value prop of this is too good
QK and Owlabs has been really killing it
Mr suit does still sound better in the sound test, but it's pretty remarkable that it's this close
It's so crazy how much these boards came up
It sounds a bit tighter almost. Less acoustic for the suit.
It's interesting how they are managing to make keep some sound with flex cuts
I do chat with them quite often, and they're always working on stuff. It's actually really cool to see and hear about. Good seeing you Gingy!
Don't get me wrong, the board looks absolutely amazing with the chroma weight and it definitely punches wayy above its weight class, but I think that the budget market is getting a bit too saturated with the same old gasket mounted boards with 1.4mm flex cut PCBs... I get that these specs are meant to be inoffensive, but I think there needs to be a bit more innovation in the mounting style specifically!
I think then 2nd half of the hear, we may start to see some more innovative ideas
Interesting! I think the alphas are a little more marlbely or higher pitches on the mr. Suit. And the spacebar is so much deeper and fuller on the qk80 in this config. There really isn't a discernable difference in quality.
I guess now it's more about what the product means to you!
Exactly! And the value of it all!
Do you think taping up the PCB flex cuts would improve the no PE foam sound?
It will make the sound more full!
Ok is THAT why my stabilizers feel a bit mushy on my newly built QK65? The PE foam? I managed to get the spacebar sounding great but my left shift just feels really soft and mushy and I haaate it. Is this just due to the pe foam or can this also be due to the PCB foam inbetween the PCB and the plate?
you should try GMK caps on the QK80 cause I have noticed that the DCX caps don't sound quite as nice as GMK
Mr Suit's sound profile seems to lack the plasticky clack(maybe a bit of a pinging noise which the QK displays). For the money though, it's offering a pretty nice auditory experience.
damn this is amazing...will receive my zoom tkl within a few days and now this looks tempting too :')
Haha can never have too many keyboards. Or can you
@@Keybored wallet screams, difficult to afford when you are a student :')
the Mr suit still sounds quite a bit better to me but that qk80 price is killer
Yeah that price... It's hard to ignore
Not to mention you can't really buy a Mr Suit anyways
@@amizan8653 really, mr suit is really flop now in my country. It's hard to sell it.
@@hansphung that surprises me. It's my favorite keyboard
@vegan exmuslim yes, it used to be expensive, but getting more and more devaluation. It may because of there are many good boards with reasonable price now, like the QK75, Zoom TKL, or upcoming QK80.
Would you use the uhmwpe tape on the flex cuts of the qk80 like you did for the Thera?
Do you use the Mr suit as a daily? What your favorite board? Great video as always!
Unfortunately I do not. It's stays hidden away for the most part because I have to put so many keebs into rotation, reviews, etc.
amazing looks and this board signature are more on creamy/thocky sound I think, feeling to build one clacky board, but this QK80 looks sexy 🥺🥺
I think for clack, check out the zoom tkl
160 dollars is a lot of money, thank god for qwertykeys for showing how much a good board should cost, btw amazing video as always!
I literally put this next to a 400 dollar board and I'm thinking... Something doesn't equate lol
Wow, QK boards are so cool and win in the price to quality category.
Wow... just woww the price and all this... um kinda speechless lol
Where did you find the F13 key??? I did not see it in the pictures of your link and I'm new at this.
Hi Scott! Can you please do a review on the new tofu?
Yooooooo the QK80 and Mr. Suit sound soooooooo similar!
This has to be one of the most beautiful TKLs even compared to the more premium ones
It's Def a looker!
do you know if the back plate you get will be a reliable color to expect? cause the one in the video I think looks better than the one displayed in the online shop
lighting plays an important part
also that foam with POM plate changed the game on that. Lack of my knowledge where could we get the foam that fits this board when we can get this board cause I am assuming it does not come with it
the foam is included in the PCB :D
May i ask, did you lubed the hamster switches or it comes with factory lubed?
Im so sad I didn’t get the mr.suit when it was in gb, I talked myself out of it and I regret it so bad
If both layouts are equally as good for me and I could only get one, QK75 or QK80? Prefer more marbly sound
Hi Keybored, what is the name of sandblasted? Dusk or Chroma ?
The Mr Suit sounds quite a bit more poppy and muted... It sounds like it isolated a nice high midrange tone where the QK80 allowed much more low end reverb and wasn't really as marbly.
Honesty, I prefer the tone from the 80. I'm thinking with some mods you could get the either board to sound like the other. A testament to how far the players in this industry have come
It's so crazy where we ended up. Before it was tray mounted tofus... Lol
"my cat wife" sounds too endearing I'm going to melt xD
Really new to all of this (custom keyboards and such) but are you able to recharge it or do you have to buy new batteries XD? Also are you only able to buy the qk75 from group buys? IF so, will it ever be back?
You can charge it via usb
@@Keybored How about the group buy for the qk75? :p
The Mr Suit sounds better imo. You described it well. It sounds cleaner, for sure.
Thanks Scott! What switches were you using on the Mr Suit?
I used the ktechs s1s made by tecsee
@@Keybored Thank you!!!
I'm definitely buying this keyboard
It's a great board... But all the QK stuff has been
I prefer the typing angle of the Zoom TKL. But other than that QK80 is slightly better but also slightly more expensive when spec'ed out.
Hey, when is it possible to buy this amazing Board? And where can i buy it then?
Is the color similar to mr.suit baby powder gold?
Is there any full sized or 96% keyboards out there other than the GMMK series that are either really cheap / good?
It feels like no one makes these...
we have one in plan!
Omg that spacebar ploc, i literaly had an eargasm
The 2nd version?
@@Keybored yeah
I was waiting for one final push to see if I would get this lmao
:)
Really nice video.
I wonder what can be done with the little rgb lighting? Can we make it blink on typing? Can it indicate Caps Lock on/off? Can we control the colors?
Overall it seems like really good value for money. But comparing to Mr. Suit showed that there is still difference between Owlabs premium stuff and Qwerty budget stuff. I guess it will be similar with Jelly Epoch or Spring.
I think if you get the RGB pcb without flexcut, then the qk80 will sound even better than mr suit, since mr suit has crazy amounts of flexcut, so it's going to sound thin no matter what.
"better" is subjective - by design, it should be built with all foam and that's the intended sound signature; basically if you want something that is not thin, there are a ton of options before jelly epoch
FINALLY a premium TKL with dongle based wireless. As soon as I saw the price tag then that I was sold.
The hobby going down a good direction!
how much for one with a plane weight and no badge?
I was really hoping for a knob option like the QK75.
I think they didn't want to do the Keychron q3 thing lol
@@Keybored As in they just didn't want to copy the Q3? Because the QK75 copies the GMMK Pro layout, Or is there something inherently bad about the Q3 layout?. I was hoping to replace my Q3 with the QK80 but I really like having the knob...
Btw is there no round 3 for qk65?
is there any option to buy qk75 now?
Im sure others have said but… waitaminute that’s not “chroma” that’s a sandblasted Dusk weight. Still diggin the content!
Honestly i want a qk numpad bc im curious what a num0ad would be like from them
With their track record, I'm sure pretty good
Yeah, Imma buy dat QK80!
I dont know if i should get the qk75 extras or qk80
If you want the knob then the Qk75. Otherwise, they're like the same lol
If the lighting accent was a fingerprint reader they would sell these like crazy
Makes you wonder if the price for some other premium boards are truly justified when boards like this are coming out instead at affordable prices. Sometimes it feels like you're paying purely for the name and brand of the piece and not for the piece itself.
Yeah the hobby is now changing and everyone needs to follow suit! No pun intended lol
You are literally the J Perm of the keyboard hobby
2023 is a good year for the budget keyboard and audiophile community, but not for the mouse enthusiasts lmao
Really good year so far!
Which gaskets are similar to the QK75? Grey?
I think the Grey ones
Where can someone buy the wooden wrist rest that you use? Asking for a friend 😅
It's the Keychron one!
About to sell my Zoom TKL lol still waiting for it to arrive.
Lol. The zoom tkl is also a good one. But when you out these side by side, the QK80 does pull ahead
HI, if i have the tiger 80 lite, is it worth it to upgrade to the qk80? tia.
I would say you won't get leaps and bounds better typing feel and sound, but the QK80 will definitely be a more premium board with a lot more customization options.
Another great review and comparison. I do think the Suit sounds fuller and less hollow and less resonance (pretty subjective though). However, if I didn't already own a Suit, I'd probably get the QK80 because of price. Suit is better but not by a whole lot, and def not 3x the price. Kinda like the QK65, its deep but not as "sophisticated", but hard to beat value wise.
Esp if you try to get one second hand! Suits are so expensive now!
Has the pricing been confirmed for the $160?
Anybody know if the PCB has encoder support? I know there other boards did
qk75 does - this one doesn't
How do I buy it? Is it a group buy or?
