Here’s the thing about Saint-14: he, like Saladin, is a veteran of The Collapse. When the Darkness first came, and both the Eliksni AND humanity was at their lowest point, and at their worst and cruelest. Fighting is all Saint-14 has known most of his life when we rescued him. Plus, the reason Mithrax’s words reached him, and why he would NEVER side with Lakshimi’s coup: ....us. Saint himself said WE were his inspiration, HIS role model to aspire to be like! That’s why he said those words: “I’m still trying.” as he stepped out the Infinite Forest! Because now he asking himself: “.....What would the guardian do?”. We’re the reason Saint still has his compassion and humanity, that hasn’t been embittered by war and conflict thinking that humanity doesn’t need allies with House of Light, or a treaty with the Cabal, or allies with the Awoken! Thinking that we need no one, and are better off alone! THAT’S how the Collapse kicked our ass the FUCKING FIRST TIME!

Saint was literally anti-Eliksni until this very moment. Stop making Saint infallible. He's great because he's flawed and admits his mistakes, especially after this scene where his entire demeanor changes towards Mithrax and the Eliksni. He didn't give two shits about the Eliksni going throuhh the same shit as humanity, he like all the other named lore figures knew this the moment Fallen showed up as enemies. THIS SCENE is when Saint decides to change because he figured out he was no better than Lakshmi in the context of treating the Eliksni.
Up until this very moment he's been every bit as bloodthirsty as every fucking guardian player talking mad shit white mowing down Eliksni since D1. So again, stop pretending Saint or the Guardian(s) were infallible. Everyone was fucking racist until Saint started being better after this scene, and Bungie did this on purpose, beautifully done I might add, since making SAINT of all people change his behaviour ensured even numbskulled dudebros would follow suit.

So, at first I though Lakshmi was simply full of prejudice. Understandable, for the same reason we said Zavala was crazy for allying with the cabal on the sneak peaks before the season of the chosen started without knowing the details of how that would be forged. The Fallen have been one of our greatest enemies for so long, second only to the hive until Ghaul bound the traveler, that the idea of letting them inside the last city and extend our protection to them seems way to drastic of a change if you don't know about Mithrax, his ideals, his past interaction with other humans in many forms (awoken, exos and earthlings). So it's up to us to show her House Light is as different from the House of Devils or Salvation as the current Vanguard is different from the Iron Lords and all the other guardians that abused their lights before the foundation of the city.
Then, when she just kept talking about her vision of the future, how she's seen the bloodshed inside the city and how we didn't listen to her when she warned us about the red war I felt some sympathy for her. Her frustation for not being able to get through the vanguard and prevent the Cabal from taking the tower, the city, feeds her determination and her fear of making the same mistakes than in the past prevent her from seing that she's the one making her terrible vision come true. The Eliksni aren't enemies, she is making an enemy out of them. It's her actions that are bringing that vision to reality, like Oedipus' myth.
But, now, here, I think it was made clear that I was wrong. She is not oblivous about the fact that she is causing her vision. She is working towards it. She wants an uprising, a civil war inside the walls, she wants unrest, she wants people against the leadership of the vanguard, she is very deliberately making the eternal night worse so that people get angrier at Zavala and Ikora, as if they weren't doing anything. She is preparing the city for a coup, that's her real motivation behind all this. It's not to avoid the Eliksni betraying us, is not to end the long night, it's not what's best for the city. She is thirsty for power. She refuses to listen to Mithrax even when he is making all the sense in the world, she dismisses the efforts of his splicers even though she very well knows that dealing with Vex paradoxes is not something simple, even when their efforts have helped her acquire information on the Vex network she would have never been able to get without House Light. She pretends to be innocent, ignorant and powerless to be able to help the city be more accepting of them when she is telling the people that the Eliksni are still enemies and to rise to action. And to top it all off, she bad mouths Ikora, Zavala and Osiris calling them politicians!
God, I hope we get to put a bullet betwen her eyes. The Hive at least know they are cold blooded monsters and don't try to hide the fact.

It's important to note that in all the lore tabs and lore books for this season that Mithrax is in, he is frequently apologizing on behalf of both himself and his own house for their tacit condoning of the Fallen houses actions out of fear and cowardice and even apologizes on behalf of all Eliksni houses including ones they had no control over. For how far the Eliksni have Fallen and the many ways they hold great blame for what happened between Humanity and the Eliksni first contacts through direct or indirect action. For heinous war crimes committed by his people, even by some who they have forgiven on the condition that they follow the House of Light's rules from now on. He's not asking Saint to forgive the pardoned criminals, nor even the majority of the Fallen Eliksni, but now he's putting his foot down and telling Saint that he needs to accept this small peace and see how many Eliksni will stand up to the Fallen if we just give them the option and that to stamp on that just because all we see are monsters will doom both their races. He wants to show Saint that the Eliksni have always had innocents coerced into giving the Fallen houses their resources and services under duress, and even attempted settlements separate from the houses that were mistaken for raiding camps that Saint raided seeking vengeance. Lady Efrideet's lore even mentions peaceful "bug" colonies that I can only assume were implied to be Eliksni. Mithrax isn't asking Saint to forgive his people, he's asking him to swallow his ire and give them another chance. And I'm very glad Saint did so.

I don't think Bungie are trying to rewrite the Fallen as the good guys - rather, I think they're trying to reinforce that the Eliksni are supposed to be a narrative parallel to humanity. Think about it: if all source of electricity on earth just up and wandered off, I need you to look me in the eye and tell me our world leaders WOULDN'T wage war on whatever aliens "stole" it from us. I highly doubt Eliksni civilians and babies decided "Yeah, let's beat the shit out of humans". The people in power make the choices, and power very rarely grants kind or peaceful solutions.
The point is that the Battle of Six Fronts and Twilight Gap was traumatizing to both sides. You think Fallen don't have a drafting system? No, I'd believe their Kells turn to dregs and vandals and say, "Fight by my side to the death, or I'll shoot you in the face myself." It's not like humans haven't done this before to themselves under tyrannical leadership as well (see example: Warlords, before the Last City was made.)
I think Bungie is trying to emphasize that, TRULY, it ISN'T all Fallen that are hostile and aggressive. Just like humans, some of them are fucking shitty, but lots of us are kind. We just need to listen to each other. Mithrax, at least, seems to be open and willing to have peace. Whether the rest of his House actually agrees with that notion is a whole other can of worms.

Despite getting their civilization nearly wiped out by the Darkness, the fraction that remains is actually very very large, especially compared to how Humanity has also been reduced to a small fraction of its former population. Tell me, do you think that many soldiers can survive without any infrastructure and noncombatant support? Fallen also have civilians you know. Are civilians responsible for the sins of their military? If multiple countries of Humans from Earth were to colonize an Alien planet and countries that you did not belong to waged war on the local lifeforms, and those lifeforms in retaliation blew up your home country that had not participated, claiming that you did those things just because you are also Human, wouldn't you feel maybe a little bit indignant?
House of Light was specifically built out of civilian Eliksni who want to escape their houses of violence, the houses that followed raiding warlords simply because they won't be able to survive without a house. They are effectively a sovereign nation of refugees. The House of Light has very few soldiers, and those that they have are entirely unlikely to have been present fighting Humanity during Twilight's Gap or the SIVA Crisis prior to renouncing violence and joining the House of Light regardless as to how much or little faith you may have in Mithrax's claim that House Light has never raised arms against Humanity. Because if someone in the House of Light was a former Fallen Warlord, we would know. We are able to tell the difference between different Eliksni. We fight them, we spy on them, we KNOW who the Fallen Warlords and their councils are, and not just because they have nametags that pop up when we target them! Ha ha!

I strongly believe that Savathun is spreading her influence to ALL the major characters in The Last City and The Tower. She’s hoping to turn us all against each other and destroy ourselves from the inside out.

Perhaps by the end of the season humanity and the Guardians will realize that they aren’t all that innocent and just compared to the Elksni they’ve killed.

Can't we just have our guardians freeze Lakshmi and make her mysteriously disappear. I mean really just use a stasis super or stasis grenade then go and dump her down some very deep hole on Europa that hopefully no one would be able to explore to ensure that she stays frozen before casually going about our business. Also when our guardians do it just make sure there isn't anyone around to see it as well as have a lookout just incase someone happens to show up nearby. If anyone asks the guardians could simply say they're going to see Variks or something believable
PS this is just my opinion but I never really liked nor trusted the future war cult and would rather have nothing to do with them

    • @djrosette
      @djrosette Před 3 lety

@@AngeMaru486 that actually is a better excuse but what about the few people in the last city who actually believe that exo's bs and might try to get the guardians to get her back 🤔
PS if a civilian tried to ask my guardian to save Lakshmi, she'll just say "I'll think about it" without any real intention of saving the exo
