He's the one who expressed anger, hurt, and struggles. now that D-Day promotions are starting, yoongi's been talking about his past projects too and he said that Agust D, as well as D2, are full of anger. So Far Away is one of my favorite songs ever. I want to add that that line you loved, the chorus where he repeats "may your end be prosperous" etc? He deliberately uses an extremely formal style of Korean that is not used in everyday conversation, but rather used by monks in Buddhist monasteries, etc. Basically, the chorus sounds religious, like he's praying for you and me and all of us. It gives me chills
Suga said a lot of this mixtape was made when he was in highschool, he's definitely grown and changed so much from that time, but it's a body of work that stands the test of time
Fun fact! Halsey discovered BTS through this mixtape! She loved the lyrics and fell in love, became a fan of BTS's work. They met the next year (2017) at the BBMAs, where Halsey was one of the few people who didn't treat them like exotic puppets....Halsey and BTS now call each other friends. Suga and Halsey in particular are really good friends it seems, he went to see her firstborn baby, he even teased her for not responding to his text messages on an interview two days ago.

6:10 not sure if anyone mentioned this but the crushed shoulder thing,, yoongi was in a car accident in 2012 where he got hit by a car as he was on his delivery shift. He ended up debuting with an injured shoulder and ended up enduring lots of pain and complications. But he got surgery to fix it in late 2020 (i think it was around November if my memory is not tripping), so if you see tannies carrying around a photo cut out of yoongi or anything else to represent him (like a snowman in one of the award shows) it was because he was recuperating from that surgery!

Was trying to make it through life with 20 years of undiagnosed adhd, severe social anxiety, and depression and it was not going well. Life was upside down and I had no hope but when Yoongi said "The time when I tried to sleep on a bathroom floor is now a memory to me uh it became a memory" I literally wasn't alone on the bathroom floor anymore. For the first time in my life felt like I wasn't alone and that I could overcome this. Wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for Yoongi being vulnerable and open the way he is. He talks about things like social anxiety and depression that NO ONE spoke of in those days, and he straight-out tells ARMY that if talking about his pain helps even one person get through their own struggles, it was all worth it.
The hip-hop underground crowd dared to question his manhood for wearing makeup on stage, which is total BS. This? THIS is being a man. THIS is what real courage and strength look like. THIS is standing up for yourself and your loved ones.

To understand why he was also so angry you should slowly start the Rise Of Bangtan, BTS coming from a small broke label got so much discrimination and hate, their attitude and perseverance is otherworldly and deeply inspiring! Rags to riches is an understatement compared to where they started from and where they at now! No matter how successful they are today they know the hustle, like Yoongi said in 723148 when he got scouted by Big Hit he was training to debut, while being at school and having a part time delivery job where he crushed his shoulder in an accident! That's part of their story and why they remain extremely grounded in reality, Namjoon touched a bit on this too if you remember in his Suchwita episode

I don't think anyone can fully grasp the magnitude of Yoongi releasing his very first mixtape during one of the most turbulent and painful years of BTS history (2015- 2016). Yoongi has been going through so much since his teenage years. I don't even know the kind of courage it takes to show people one's pain. He does not mince words and is not ambiguous with his lyrics. The imagery from his words cuts like a knife. I find myself flinching, holding my breath and silently tears fall every time I listen to his 2 mixtapes. I am just thankful that he found the strength and determination to live and realize his dreams are equally important; that he is not a 'monster' because he has big dreams and that even though he felt that his family and friends were drifting farther away that he is loved and worthy of love. I truly hope that he now knows who the people are who genuinely loves/ cares about him, supports him, has his back in difficult times. In his recent interview with IU, he said he has let go of the anger and negativity and is now at peace. We might see it in his new album. I am very glad. Yoongi deserves so much love, happiness and peace.

I just hope you will deep dive into lyrics like Numjoon for suga. Cause The song "The last" is very personal to him. It literally say about his dippression and thoughts he had about you know -Su*cide and now how he came over that, also his shoulder injury which he had because of accident when he had part-time job delivery back in trainee days, and still went on without treating it until 2020... So every single lyric hold deep story behind it for Suga. you can see mostly all anger he had in Agust D & D-2 albums. He talked about it on recent interview with Disney. But for D-Day he will show different side of him.

he once said that he produced/writes like 200(?) songs a year cause he's makes 1 song per day, with some days as his rest day. so he have lots of songs stored somewhere in his computer.. there are songs he wants other members to sing or the whole group would sing, but other producers told him to store it for now or got rejected so he just kinda puts it on his mixtape 😅

If you cant tell I'm stoked as HELL for Suga week. Hes my inspiration. Hes not even my bias but hes still somehow the one who inspires me and motivates me and hits me in my soul in a way that no one else(even outside of BTS) does.
Hes an amazing human being who has been through the shits, and came out with wisdom. Hes not IQ148 Namjoon, but he has an understanding about how the world works and the people in it. That's why he and Namjoon work SO WELL off of eachother. Namjoon is always asking questions and trying to figure out the world. Yoongi instinctually understands a lot of it.

Context behind why Yoongi rapped these lyrics during Agust D mixtape:
BTS were denied as an idol by people who loved idols
BTS were rebuked as an idol by people who loved musicians
BTS were dragged for things they hadn't done --- to the point they always wondered why do so many people hate them (especially in 2016)
Yoongi (along with RM) was looked down upon and accused by other underground K-hip hop rappers who accused them of 'not being hip hop enough or selling out or not conforming to toxic masculinity standards'
On a personal level, Yoongi was told he wouldn't make it by pursuing music by people around him (thankfully his elder brother believed in him), and he did struggle alot to get to where he is. He also struggled with social anxiety, depression and other issues (injured his shoulder from doing deliveries as part time job...an ache n pain he put up with for years until he recently went for surgery to fix) -- somehow he always struggled with personal relationships too.
ironically bcuz BTS is different, walked the unchartered path, is both idol + musician & defined a unique category of their own is precisely why they attracted so many fans worldwide -- BTS' music from the start was heavily influenced by hip hop and other genres too -- and their lyrics were about substance that no other groups (pop / even other genres) talked about.
From the start, BTS had to survive in a 'do or die' mindset so their level of performance was NEXT LEVEL, which threatened many other groups. Hence they received a lot of hate and prejudice from fandoms of other groups.
Yoongi talks about this in his latest short interview here, a MUST-WATCH in ur reaction: czcams.com/video/BQMtAKV2tAY/video.html

Honestly, I have to prepare myself for every time I listen to The Last. It's a little too relatable, and knowing he went through such pain himself is both hard and makes me admire him even more for taking the lessons he's learnt from that time to help us. It's important to note, The Last cannot be translated 100% in tone - Koreans have told us it's literally structured like a suic**e note. It's a completely, completely shocking song to them because of how raw it is, because shit like that doesn't get talked about. He seriously helped so many people by being brave enough to say what he did.

I can't remember where I got this from...I think yoongi said he hated The Last for a long time but now he's ok with it. even if he still has his down moments (we don't know but fairly speaking everyone does) he has healed a lot judging by his recent interviews
Suga was asked what he feels about creating music that is so honest and raw about his pains and sufferings. Suga's answer: "it wasn't that difficult. Because we work on music a lot, we have many songs out there. So when we work on our individual projects, we always think about what to talk about. Now that we look back at those experiences, we feel thankful, because they enable us to tell various stories. And the things that used to be painful to recall. are not anymore, because releasing music also helps alleviate that emotion. For me it has been helpful. Many people are living with their traumatic memories, but i'm sure the moment will come when they overcome that. And i also think you need to go through the process where you organize these emotions. And for me, one of that process is releasing music"
there's also this piece from another interview:
“I think I’m happier now,” he confides. “I’ve realized that happiness doesn’t require much, and it can be quite simple. I used to think material things would give me happiness, and I worked hard to achieve them. But when I succeeded, I wasn’t so sure anymore. I don’t have many earthly desires anyway,” he says with a laugh. “Perhaps it’s because I now know that material things no longer give me great satisfaction. So now, I try to find happiness in simple things, such as getting up early in the morning and having decaf coffee. I’m glad I’ve finally got to experience this kind of joy. What I lost would be being ordinary. Your ordinary is my extraordinary, right? But I think time will solve this issue.”
The Last is from his first mixtape. You can see that he has changed a lot since then by this quote of him:
“My first mixtape was all about anger, but then everything was sorted out, right?” SUGA explains with a laugh. “I realized that I didn’t know who to be angry with anymore. Finally, I was able to look at myself. I’d been making a weapon out of anger and a sense of inferiority, but around 2018, my self-destructive rage slowly started to subside. I realized that I couldn’t channel creative energy through only those sorts of emotions any longer.”
and now a recommendation for future yoongi's music reaction is his song People from second mixtape
“‘People’ is my favorite song as well,” SUGA says. “Because it’s a record of four years of my life. I set aside most songs after they’re done, but I find myself relistening to ‘People’ all the time, and I experience different emotions each time I hear it. It’s a song I put on mostly when I’m feeling lonely and sentimental.”
Suga/Agust D began writing music lyrics and working with MIDI at age 11 and held a part-time job composing and arranging music at a recording studio at age 16. Active under the name "Gloss" (wordplay on his name YoonGi, which means "to shine") as an underground rapper, He originally entered Big Hit Entertainment as a producer at age 17 in 2010, but was convinced to become a part of a new group (he was told he wouldn't have to dance!! LOL) as a rapper alongside members J-Hope and RM before making his debut as a member of BTS in 2013. In the initial years of his career in BTS, both he and his fellow group member RM faced criticism from the South Korean underground hip hop scene for "selling out" and becoming K-pop idols.
Between his commitments as a member of BTS, Suga/Agust D took advantage of time on the plane and in hotel rooms after concerts to continuously produce and compose music. In an interview for Grazia Korea, Suga/Agust D expressed a desire to release the music he wanted to do without having to consider popular appeal or music ranking. He intended to release his music for free in the form of a mixtape to avoid such considerations, commenting that an album "has a feeling of being trapped in some sort of framework" due to the need for company involvement in promotion and advertising.
Developing Agust D musically on the base of hip hop, much of Agust D's inspiration for the lyrics came from his own stories of dream, youth, and reality. In order to differentiate his work from that of his work as Suga, he developed the alter ego "Agust D".

i really thing that the last is one of the most intense songs capturing the feeling of depression/anxiety that i've heard. like the pain in his voice is so intense yet it's so amazing because the end is so victorious. this song really was one of the first songs that made me look further into bts music and made me ARMY. it's really amazing too to think about how risky it might have been for him to release this when he's a member of an idol group and mental health issues are not treated with care in s. korea. it was very vulnerable of him.

That said I want to ask that you listen to a lot of his music and then listen to The Astronaut last as you need to learn his journey to fully understand his goodbye song.
