- The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed a bill that seeks to merge the Union Territories of Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
The merger is aimed at fast-tracking the development of the two union territories.
Responding to the brief debate on the Bill.... Minister of State for Home G Kishen Reddy said the measure will help in strengthening administrative efficiency services.
On the same subject Home Minister Amit Shah assured that reservation provided to people in the two union territories will continue.
Further number of Lok Sabha seats will also remain unaltered and the jurisdiction of the Bombay High Court will also continue over the two territories.
The merger of the Union territories comes on the heels of the bifurcation of the State of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories that took effect from last month...
Our focus today is on the issue of reorganisaton of states and Union territories... We look at the need and the various reasons for this ... while revisiting the decision on Jammu and Kashmir ... and also the disputes and the demands that have been continuing for decades and are still in the process of being resolved..

Delhi is not a state, it is one UT with legislature.
They should be merged within the state of Gujarat with some provisions!

At the Time of bifurcation of states on linguistic basis 1956 there were only14 States and 6UTs. .,
Presently there are 28 States and 8 UTs there

Delhi is not a state, there are 9 UTs in India.

They have wrongly included delhi in states but UT no is 8 and it is correct only and no of states is 28 .
