Final Fantasy IX Strongest enemy in the game ( Not Ozma Hades Necron Tantarian)

- Even though the title subliminally indicates the opposite of what it claims to present, it is not supposed to.
I am as serious as I could possibly be: The friendly Yan is in fact FFIX's strongest enemy, in terms of its stats and in terms of its behavior in battle. Beating the friendly Yan without characters whose stats have been increased to their limits while simultaneously having to resort to both the most useful Support Abilities (Auto-Regen is FFIX's custom infinite HP cheat...) and abilities that deal damage regardless of the enemy's defensive stats (Thievery, Dragon Crest, Frog Drop, Limit Glove, Dark Matter) is most likely the greatest battle challenge FFIX has to offer. Interestingly, the friendly Yan does not only counter all attacks, provided they ever connect, but it also spontaneously assaults one's party if one does not give it a Diamond soon enough.
Incidentally, the friendly Yan is the only friendly creature that does not flee when it is attacked. Moreover, it is the only one which one can defeat as often as one desires to (easily) acquire 50 AP in a single battle and to obtain Rosetta Rings without having to pay for them (at least not in a pecuniary sense).

For those wondering, Frog Drop does damage based on the number of frogs you catch. You can also get badass items, I've heard.
Thievery and dragons crest are equally reliable. Hits 9999 every time when maxed out
For those also wondering the frog formula is frogs caught multiplied by lvl. 101 frogs at lvl 99 = 9999. Adjust either accordingly if you dont wanna max lvl
Also badass items? The vast majority are Quina weapon upgrades

@@randyyang3420 I used to think that auto-regen was turn based instead of acting in real time, so I never bothered to use it. Regardless of that, this game was already stupidly easy for me, not that I think that's a bad thing
Especially combined with haste. Why did they decide to make that make it heal even faster?
It's also raised by the spirit stat. Each time you level up, you earn fractions of stat points based on your equipment. By leveling up with the right gear you can push your spirit stat pretty hard.
Making auto-regen heal even more.

More things I've never thought of. I guess I've literally never bothered to fight most of the "friendly enemies" because most of them just run away. Never knew the Yan would fight back! :)
I beat this game start to finish 3+ times as a pre-teen. I learned of Dark Matter and got the ship eidolon and found out a couple other secrets but still to this day I am learning about secrets of this game….could be because i haven’t played it in 20 years but still- to have so many secrets is quite the feat. FFx also has many. I miss Square before they merged with Enix 😮💨
A side quest in this game Reuniting The Nero Brothers/Family was just discovered in the last few years I believe. Requiring the player to return to the Tantalus hideout in Lindblum 9 times, each trip after reaching a major event or boss in Memoria.

A comment from the distant future: I grinded levels with the regular Yan's and they're equally as terrible to fight (and when you have more than 1 geez.) It made getting to level 99 pretty easy sailing though.

The Brady strategy guide said this. I don't remember having a difficult time with Ozma or Lich. That damn ram though was hard even hard beating the hidden bosses. Even when they get easy they can still mess you up.

Ozma was harder purely since it could wipe out your party in one turn using curse then meteor and its purely luck based whether it does it or not
Actually according to final fantasy website, Ozma is the only boss in the series that can wipe out your party if he wants. He can repeatedly cast curse, good luck with that

Haste and regen are broken when on at the same time. I dont think any enemy can kill you with them on expect ozma and his cheap meteor.

blkmattymatt Auto regen ruins the fight. In fact its not even a fight anymore, you can can just go away and wait for its MP to deplete.

Not sure why Steiner is there. Quina's Frog Drop, Zidane's Thievery and Freya's Dragon's Crest offer unblockable damage at 9999 when you meet the criteria. Something I liked about the game is that you can put a lot of effort into powering up their moves and see enemies with powerful defences take a real batterring.

I've been wondering, I know Vanish won't work to evade the Yan's BAAAAHHHHHH attack, but will having high enough Evasion/Magic Evasion work to avoid it? Or is it absolutely impossible to dodge?

@NEroNeRoNerON I just remembered that the place I was talking about was memoria. Do you remember that? Grand dragons give you 8802 exp per player, which is pretty awesome, if you want to level up pretty good, but I remember that the monsters in memoria gave you about 10000 exp which is better. I was never able to kill yans, they were so freakin tough. I failed, but I'll try again, and what exactly "level up" ability do again?

I think the Auto-Regen/Auto-Potion skill combination made characters immortal. I don't remember ever dying when I equipped them, plus the HP Plus and auto life Abilities. I tried to use the same in FF8, FFX and FF12, but it never worked as effectively.

Actually with Auto Haste, Auto Regen, and Spirit maxed out at 50 the characters are practically immortal unless they get zombied or confused and end up critically hitting each other!! Maxed stats has its benefits! It's only downfall is literally if you get Zombied!! Nothing Magic Tag can't fix but in the end if your character is confused you pretty much are doomed!!

Eventually, you should. But until you do, you can kill it as many times as you want for a Rosetta Ring and 50 AP.
Oh yeah but isn't there another way to get the Rosetta Ring (as well)? I've played through Final Fantasy IX a few times and there may be another way to get one but I'm not [exactly] sure. I was just saying because of the 50 AP.
***** Yes, there are other ways to get Rosetta Rings. Except for somewhat fast 50 AP and a unique battle, there is no reason to continuously fight the Friendly Yan.

garnet for haste. she's also excellent support for healing and protect,shell,esuna,etc. Freya can use Reiss wind and white draw.. if she's in danger or you dont need wind or white draw just jump... Vivi for attack. Steiner for attack. (or zidane for stealing) but I usually go straight for the kill
It's very interesting to know :). However, even Friendly Yan is stat-wise better, I don't think he is as difficult as Ozma. Yan's attack is purely physical while Ozma can do physical, magical and status attack to ALL members. Ozma can also annihilate a character in a single attack. Ozma's defense is not as high as Yan's but Curaga is damm annoying :P

Friendly Yan is easy to defeat. You just have to have one healer and have on hitter. The hitter has to be someone who can deal absolute damage (freye - dragon crest, zidane - thievery, quail - frog drog, vivi - meteor, etc.), then the healer will just need to heal every turn. The other 2 can just be left to defend so that Yan won't counterattack to them.

The only thing I hated about ff9 is there is a time limit to get the Excalibur 2 such a pain in the ass means you need to rush the game.
Or leave it running for over 2 years and the game clock will roll over. Then you get a second chance for it. :)

that's the point of the weapon though. you can't expect to get everything easily. I'm attempting my first Excalibur II run now after years of playing this game. it's a fun endeavor and you should try it as well
I dont think that works o.O I have tried it before when I was young. I had over 100h playtime and it reseted to 0 but in red numbers. And I remember that I tried to visit that spot and couldnt get excalibur 2 lol
It takes much, much, much more than 100 hours. The displayed game clock may or may not roll over, can't remember, but that's irrelevant. The displayed game clock only counts to 100. But the internal game clock counts a 32 bit register without overflowing. That's equal to 4,294,967,295. But this is counted in "frames", which are 1/60th of a second. Do the math and you get a bit over 2 years.
The display clock will lock up at 99:59:59 and then just stay there and change colors, but the internal game clock - which is never displayed to the player - is the one that has to roll over to give you a second chance at the Excal II. And that takes 4,294,967,295 frames, or about 2 and a quarter years.
He's not the strongest, only the most resilient. Ozma is still the most powerfull, he can wipe your party with a single meteor, or his sick and cheap combos and cure himself, his only flaw is to be random, so if you are lucky and can kill him fast enough, he's beatable.
btw, you could kill this friendly Yan much more easely using dragon cast, frog drop, thievery and throwing dark matter.

Really? I defeated three yans in a fight with a good strategy but Ozma crushed my party even with my best equipment and strategy. I was at level 65 with my characters.

Comet only targets 1 party member. They are easy with garnet lvl 99 and 99 ores odin have like 90% instakill chance.

@NEroNeRoNerON PLEASE TELL ME EXACTLY HOW YOU WERE ABLE TO GET UR CHARACTERS ON LEVER 99!!!!! I've been told defeat grand dragons outside the gizamlukes grotto but I've found out that when you go to that red portal thing at the top of the lifa tree in the endo of the game, the monsters in that place give you more exp than the grand dragon does, and it would still take me forever to get my players to level 99. So how could I do it? how did you do it? PLEASE RESPOND!!!
Stats are not why Ozma is harder, its because Ozma gets free turns to attack after your attacks.
Ozma is still easy af hahahah It cant oneshot me but i cant remember what I did cause it has been too long since I have played ff9. I just remembered that I killed it in a few hits because i always land 9999 hits xD

You are indeed correct, in final fantasy 9 float will increase damage meteor is likely to deal to you. Even at level 99 ozma can still trash you, even using the preferred return magic method since that requires him to use doomsday
I think the method I used was to max the limit break gauge before I entered the battle. And since every hit landed with 9999 damage I could take him down easily xD And with freiya on my side he couldnt do shit to her so she could always use jump

Round guy = ozma. Without finishing friendly monsters quest, you can't attack ozma psychically.

It's possible with proper planning, I believe. Stat growth is affected by bonuses on equipment. In other words, the higher your stats are boosted by your equipment, the more points you will gain in them when leveling up.
How where you able to keep you Trance for a longer period of time?
Why not using Thievery? 9999 with 7mp, best 9999 power in FFIX...

Elijah Hodges both will do 9999 at that point. Go with the one that cost less MP. Your just wasting MP for the same outcome.

I want you to tell me if the songs that are playing in this video, the speed and pitch are right. Birth of a God, my guess that the speed is 1.25x and the pitch is 4.0. Dancing Mad, I think that ones speed would be 1.15x and the pitch 1.5. So am I right or wrong?
I may be the only one to comment about it, but I like how the music is higher pitched and faster here. Especially with Dancing Mad.
