These kinds of scenes chock-full of character and millions of little details were one of my favorite things to drool over when browsing the old White Dwarf magazines. Super impressive stuff and I bet it was so much fun to do, too
Lovely!
But now I want to watch Rocket Robinhood
The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle. The chalice from the palace has the brew that is true.
Ah medieval Tournaments!
Wow this took me back to the first ever white dwarf #215 I bought with the free jousting game !
That's the one! I couldn't remember the number of it. TY!
Great vid Eric. I thoroughly enjoyed this!
"My other steed is a Hippogryph!"
Seriously mate, this is so lovely to see and so inspiring for fellow Old World fans. I love how you've actually detailed where you got the different models from.
You see Highland Miniatures Bretonnians, incidentally?
Yeah that was a cool feature.
Ral Partha is a name I'd forgotten existed, and I didn't know the Perry twins were doing their own stuff ✅
@@bugnazbinnyking1198 Oh yeah, Perry Miniatures puts out all kinds of great historical models. I've been eying their medieval stuff for Bretonnian or Cities of Sigmar forces, and their various kits are used heavily in the Sludge and Turnip28 scene for "bleakpowder" kitbashing purposes.
I have seen em, yet to order any. I have several times made like a $200 dollar cart on their site then chickened out since i have so many unpainted bretonnians already. Maybe this xmas 🎅
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop have in mind that their minis are true 28mm.
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop do you know where I can get some knights by chance?
You can just feel, that this was produced with love and passion. Absolutely fantastic content, Eric!
Thank you for providing us with these inspiring videos.
I love how you build a compelling and interesting world while painting each miniature.
Everything looks incredible. This is the vibe I remember from old wargames. I've been looking forward to an update on your knights since the last video
Wow dude, I could have sworn that thumbnail was from an old white dwarf. wow wow wow
Hi funny seeing you here
I see those jetbikes at the end. Eldar jousting arena next time too?
I REALLY REALLY LIKE THIS!!!!
I'm gonna kitbash some Brite Minis to make my knights.
And make a special one for each one of my family memebers.
This is so cool, Eric! I think I still have the jousting rules from WD from way back. Waiting to see more!
Full tilt by nigel stillman in white dwarf 215! I will be going into it next week :)
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop If you're looking for collaboration ideas, you could invite some of your favorite CZcamsrs/friends to paint up their own "Knight Character and Retinue" and invite them to the tourney!
Had just popped on specifically to see if someone had already made this suggestion.
@@dancingpotplant I seriously hope it happens!
Brilliant. I especially like that you have done a wonderful job of relating the actual historical context of the event and the people who lived it. The figures, painting, and crafting are, as usual, excellent. I think the rather worn down minstrel looks like Jack Palance. ;-) And in my youth I wore the quartered black and gold livery, so an extra +1 for pleasant flashbacks. Cheers!
I love the accurate historical commentary over this, and it's clear you've actually done in depth research into it and your heraldry knowledge, hope to hear more of it over more images of your awesome bretonnia miniatures
This screams Full Tilt from White Dwarf, which inspired me to want to collect Brets way back (never did get enough of them). I love all the extra characters you built into it from the other lines, awesome stuff!
Eric! The hoof print trick at the end is just brilliant! Kudos!
You have a knack for detail, both in your craft and in the presentation of historical context. The hoofprints in the dirt... eye-popping! The tales of each character, too, left me smiling. Great video!
Dude your videos bring me back to the days of reading white dwarf magazine terrain tutorials when I was a kid, maybe one day I'll get back into the hobby. Until then I will keep enjoying your content.
The interconnectedness of the entire gathering is super impressive, Eric. So are the scale, scope, and talent. Great job
The Perry sculpt at 04:42 reminds me of Michael Gambon in The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover!
The assortment of minis is fantastic and I’m looking forward to seeing the completed scene.
I have no interest at all in medieval stuff but I always watch all these videos because I love terrain. I'm in awe of all your minis
So smart to wet the paper towels to make the tents look more like fabric. You should make a TikTok account, your construction videos are so satisfying to watch :)
it's not even complete and it's one of the best things of the sort that ive ever seen! fantastic!
that flag and pencil trick is great! good video mate!
What a classic feel!
Can't help but notice those mighty fine looking fences keeping the rabble back from the fray!
Looking forward to the next part!
Gotta say, you're quite the talented painter. I am aware your channel is almost exclusively terrain content, but the odd painting tutorial might be a welcome addition. Just a thought. Really liked getting to see the old Ral Partha stuff, as they were still a pretty big deal when I first started painting in the early 90's, and the shop towel tents are truly fantastic. Will be here with bells on waiting for the next one, and enjoy the rest of your week.
Please do the same project in a grim dark 40k setting! Getting or converting the Miniatures will be a real challenge.
The very first thing I thought when that one miniature was on screen was "That looks like Ian McKellen!" Glad you agreed.
I really love how animated this video is. It's very clear how excited and passionate you were about this.
As a Renaissance Faire enthusiast of many years, I really appreciated this scene and all the figures! Also the details like purple being a rare color (true: it was associated with royalty because it was so expensive until mauveine/aniline purple dye was invented in the 1850s). Great job!
Another amazing video! So much goodness to take away from this. First off, I will say again I love your Bretonnians and I love that you painted the bases in the old green base style. Also, thank you for sharing where many of those townsfolk miniatures came from! Those are very cool. (Reaper miniatures have made some fantastic townsfolks miniatures over the years). The terrain, top notch. I like how you used coffee stir sticks instead of just carving the foam, although I think carving would look very cool (doing foam railings is a pain though, lol). The tents! Now I need to get some shop towels, lol. Mel the Terrain Tutor had a technique using baby wipes which I've done, and that material is excellent if anyone is looking for other ways to do tents. The pitch!! Magnificent! Those hoof prints! WHAT!? Seriously, inspired and so simple. Amazing and gorgeous! Can't wait for the second part and the big showcase!!
This is a very great build I really love the world building you made and the classic colors and I was impressed by the research about jousting it made me feel I was at the ren fair again very well done
Matching Pavilions to Knights 10/10
I love this so much, jousting tournaments always have had a special place in my heart and you did an outstanding job here
Damnit, it totally does look like Ian McCellan.
But that one-legged minstrel from Grimforge? *chef's kiss*
This is so fully my jam I can't handle it. It's just the best! Well done!
This was fantastic and looks to have turned out beautifully. Great job!
The hoof prints! Great attention too detail, I would never have thought of it. First class Eric
I love your work mate! :D
By the way, if my memory serves, long ago in a White Dwarf magazine were some interesting joulsting rules along with paper tents etc. I can't remember the exact issue, but the year was 1998 and Nigel Stillman was part of it (I think). While we're on it, he had a bunch of fantastic articles about Bretonnia that same year! Heraldry, painting, building, converting etc. The articles was released in no:219-222. It's a excellent read!
Cheers!
Ps. Oh and yes, tale of the four armys was also in 1998. Good old times! Ds.
Seeing those old cool Bretonnia minifigs make me happy.
I completely lost my mind when you did the hoof prints on the ground. Absolutely brilliant.
I loved how you did the tents never thought of doing them that way
Eric man what an excellent video- from the depth of the history to the editing and even the soundtrack. This is some seriously high quality content, both entertaining and informational. Honestly man, great work! Really glad to be a subscriber!
4:50 Definitely looks like Sir Ian McKellen
I had to watch this video again just so I could take screenshots and try to track down all of these miniatures. And I agree that one Perry Miniature looks like Sir Ian
My first knights were Grenadier models back in '84. Pre-plastic, so lovely toxic lead with built in bases.
Realy enjoyed this. I love how you bring narrative into the miniatures while you're modelling.
I just told my wife that i'm pretty sure this is the coolest miniatures video i've ever watched. awesome stuff
So many awesome terrain tricks packed into one video.
I love how the girl in a purple dress looks like Rapunzel
4:35 Yup, great purple. And yup, totes Ian.
Dang dude! I cann't tell you how much I
Straight out of the dreams of young jedi mindtrick
That “bored guard” has got to be based on one of the wedding guards (who promptly get murdered by Lancelot) in Monty Python & the Holy Grail !
The hoof prints in the mud are genius.
I am pumped for the next episode.
I just have to give props for a bit of proper medieval music. That sounds like "Adam Lay Ybounden" starting at around 10:10, during the tent building. That was a delightful surprise.
I know I recall there being rules for a Bretonnian tournament game in an issue of White Dwarf from back in the 90's. It came with cardboard fold out stands as well as the tilting rail.
This just reminds me that I need to find some 28mm knights and 28mm peasants in plastic to help build units for my Turnip28 regiment.
Thank you for posting this it inspired me to make a custom weirdboy in Victorian women’s dress things like this always get my creative ideas going for what I want in my collection.
Look at all those glorious Goblin Green bases!
This is the good stuff. Classic minis, classic terrain. I'm getting late 90s early 00 White Dwarf article nostalgia!
This rocks. I stopped painting minis a few years ago. A project like this just...might get me going again. :)
you really did those old bret's justice in the paintjobs
This is your best video ever. I’ve watched it like 10 times, not only is the build fantastic but the pacing and organization of it too. Fantastic work!
The love you put in this fun little project makes me think you’re cool person that would be fun to sit down with and talk medieval things with hahaha I really loved this thanks for the video
Cheers james, glad you like it
That's a beautiful and detailed work. Looks fantastic so far. Sometimes when I see things made in your and other creators videos I finding myself scratching my head "That's so easy!"
Looking forward to the second part!
What an amazing project! I love the attention to ALL the details, and there's a lot of detail! The brush handle trick to help keep the wave pattern in the pennants is genius!
this throws me back to the 90s when GW had rules for something simalar in a White Dwarf!
Thank you Eric! I shall watch this many a time while painting my bretonnian's
As a heraldic hobbyist, I definitely need a tutorial on how you did such complex arms so well on those shields, surcoats, and caparisons
Looks awesome, love the Medieval Period and while I'm more of an Empire guy myself, Brettonia is awesome
This video has inspired me, I finally know what I want to do for my space marines, Personal Heraldy. I'm kinda a need for Heraldy I often design it in my free time. This video helped me to put two and two together, thank you Eric.
"off we go!"
love it
A non Warhammer based build!? Though, the scenery would be really good with your Britonnians.
Really love the details here, and how you used different materials to achieve this authentic look!
I really enjoy the way you stroke the paint on to your minis. You have a super laid back brush technique!
Nicely done, there are rules for Medieval Tournaments in, I believe Knights and Magick.
Wishlist for upcoming Necromunda projects: Shanty town centerpiece (meeting hall, night club etc., Necromunda sewers, Necormunda construction site
Epic. Can't wait for part 2 !
This is amazing! Love it.
Beautiful!
Great video man, love the format
Really incredible work!
This is incredible!
I absolutely love this series!
Exciting! Looking forward to part two!
“‘Tis but a scratch”
I love this. So good.
Just when we thought new levels couldn't be achieve Eric goes and shows us the way!!
Great idea - great execution!
Thought he looked like Sir McKellen before you said so. Maybe a retired veteran knight here to see the new generation.
Thats amazing, lots of respect!
Wow looks great.
So creative and amazing
usually dont comment, but this video was high quality, and fun to watch, keep em coming!
Wow, love your attention to detail!
this Is amazing , love the theme 👏👏👏👏
Absolutely great.
