    You could add enough river to the edge of the map so an opponent (or allied reinforcements) could park a ship or two from which to begin their assault. You could make another table to represent the basements, dungeons, sewers and catacombs below the surface of this map.

    The name of the Tavern in my WHF roleplaying game that my players frequent is 'The Pikeman's Lament', as it's set in a farming area which sees it's populace often be conscripted as front line soldiery for the Empire, i think it definitely matches the theme of the town you've built!

    You could call it the Forsaken Inn in a little nod to the terrain pieces being LOTR kits and your homebrew lore being that of an abandoned/forsaken town, making it a forsaken inn in the eyes of the Bretonnians who discovered it

    Technically the events in Mordheim are already set during the period in which ToW covers. The Time of the Three Emperors covers 1547-2304 IC. The comet struck Mordheim in 1999 IC, so it's smack-bang in the middle of the timeline.
    Regarding non-GW at WHW: I recently played at a 6th edition event there with three non-GW units in my army. As long as you're not taking the piss they genuinely couldn't care. Most of the staff I encountered were probably younger than 6th ed and wouldn't have known even GW models of that era from a hole in the head 🤷‍♂️
    Another tip: Artis Opis are just Rosemary & Co. brushes sold at a premium.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před 8 měsíci +2

      I think they’ve said that TOW will be based late in The Time of the Three Emperors, in the years leading up to the Seige of Praag, which was 2301 I think? So you’re in that large time period, but I think it looks like it might be quite a bit after 1999. My planned campaign can be flexible anyway, it’s the location that’s more important.
      Good news on the WHW front, that was what I expected of in honest, but didn’t want to take the the risk of loads of 3d printed stuff.
      I love Rosemary & Co, been using them for years now, wasn’t surprised when I found out they made artist opus. They have started doing the drybrushes now as well, I just got 6 for £20 on Amazon and thought I’d give them a go. The ones I got are called FuuMuui, three sizes, two of each. The larger two are very good and compare well to Artist Opus/Rosemary, the smallest doesn’t hold shape as well, so I will likely restock my Artist opus one from Rosemary & Co.

    A lovely board, but for Mordheim, you want some open ruined buildings that your guys can occupy or shoot out of windows from. Only one or two of them should be closed in on all sides like the ones you have. Mordheim was designed to be played on a board full of husks of buildings with lots of levels and lots of walkways. You also want to make a few ruined walls that are actually ramps for multiple warriors to walk up - the rubble becomes a ramp and the gap becomes an opening to get around the wall.
    I have played Mordheim with those walls and they end up being a bit of a pain for everyone if not used correctly. If you don't put gaps and breaks in them, then everyone gets stuck with their side of the wall and unable to deal with the other side of the wall. If you are "outside" the walls and climb a ladder onto the wall, your guy is basically dead, as there is no cover on them and usually only two directions to go from there, which will lead to areas of no cover on the wall. They are also going to be all by themselves as you can't get many people up a ladder at the same time. A rubble wall is a good fix for this.
    I would also suggest making some buildings that widen the walls and add cover to them on the other side. Like a building that is built up against the walls and has an entrance at that level, as well as expanding the wall where the entrance is. If that makes sense?

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před 8 měsíci

      Thank you.
      I’m definitely going to be adding a ruined wall (I need that for siege games as well), as well as some lean to buildings, scatter terrain. Planning to maybe add a building or two that is under construction, as that might help with the levels, the whole point of the setting for my campaign is that it’s not ruined, it’s not Mordheim etc. I’ve been directed to Empire in Flames as well, as that’s obviously rules for wilderness, and a different kind of ‘Mordheim’ game.

    Excellent board, you may find it a little open for mordheim, a bunch of carts and other things around the market would help. As would a couple of fountains or statues.
    Along with this it might be cool to add some more remnants of a higher ground level, much like the chapel is placed on to add some dynamic verticality. Perhaps also in this regard some roof balconies on the houses. some ladders going from rooftop peak to rooftop peak too.
    The flow of gameplay on this table also may play in a very divided way. In a siege scenario this isnt so much of an issue, but in a mordheim game, I suspect much of the outside space would be unused. Therefore being able to replace a wall section of the fortress wall with a broken one, (perhaps collapsed in to rubble in the middle) would allow the external space to move in to the internal through more than just the gate. An alternate option may be to create a sewer like entrance through the bottom of one of the side walls, with a big circular/arched grate (broken/openable?) sewer grate.
    External space might also benifit from some farming details, a field or two, rows of tall corn that figures can fit between, with fences coming away from the fortress walls, this would also allow for some cover for aproaching forces in gameplay.
    Regardless of all of my suggestions this is a really wonderful build. And as for the tavern, The Lady of the Lake Inn.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thank you, some really excellent advice there as well.
      I was definitely conscious of lack of the some of the vertically of the board, but also wanted to keep the ‘setting’ on theme, but you’ve definitely given me some ideas.
      Fields are a great idea, and I’ve got plenty of those knocking about ready just to add. Also scatter terrain, I’m building a list of bits now. Another wall section to build as collapsed is already on my shopping list, but I also really like your sewer idea, and that should be very easy to add.
      Thank you again.

    Last year I bought two Citadel Fortresses, and was surprised how little they went for on eBay. I strongly recommended buying two as you can make a castle four times the area, big enough for several buildings. If unassembled the towers of the first set should be corners, if a second set is bought I recommend you assemble them with doors on opposite sides so they sit between double length walls.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před 8 měsíci

      I’m definitely tempted to add more walls and towers, good tip on the towers.

    • @nerdytom6881
      @nerdytom6881 Před 8 měsíci

      @@MiniatureRealms Back in the day people bought one set to start but the word to those who knew was buy two. You can do so much more and have enough towers to make corner and side towers enough for many shapes of fortress.
      The most useful is similar to what you have, and L shape wall sectioning off a portion of the 6'x4' for a siege assault battle. But you cant make that and have the basic square castle with the same towers.
      Also look for the following
      Tabletop Workshop Castle
      czcams.com/video/UFEuVGPXFIw/video.html
      czcams.com/video/vSyL4jH8pqU/video.html
      - You will need to extend the tower doors, keep them narrow for defence purposes but make them a tad taller. You will have plenty of spare doors to do this, chop two to make one.
      Zvezda Medieval Castle/Stone Fortress
      czcams.com/video/cdaQrSETBV8/video.html
      czcams.com/video/_JEs3QAAVFY/video.html
      - Shop around, try to get the advanced castle if you can, it has extensions which are useful. It is listed as 1/72 scale, it isn't, only the doors are that scale. It is 28mm but needs new doors.
      Zvezda also do wooden castles, a Russian d and a roman one, both also work for 28mm.
      If you buy multiple sets you can easily make it modular for RPG's and you should ignore Wargames illustrated advice to glue it.
      All these sets are available with a careful search, The Zvezda sets are more easily bought if you can plug into French or German ebay, I paid far less going there. Tabletop workshop sets are best available from the UK. I could say where but I don't know if I can post trade links.

    Reason for the pub name, as well as fitting into the Border Princes, but it was also the Inn in Stardust film, which has lots of classic fantasy elements.

    Lovely work! Your shading with the airbrush is something I'll have to try on my upcoming terrainprojects. You might want to add some scatter terrain for breaking up line of sight and adding some cover, a slight issue I ran into when I finished my city board. A wall breach could also help open up the sides of the town for more playability. You could name the inn: 'The Realm of Stew' haha ^^ Nice work mate!

    All walled coastal towns need "somewhere you can go to buy your fish and watch a hanging at the same time." 🤣 Perfect complement to your town! Great work. I'm doing much the same using 3-D printed buildings behind Zvezda fortress ramparts and gates. You get a similar look at a greatly reduced price. I guess it's a shame I won't be able to compete in any official GW contests using competing components and minis... or not.

    Great looking terrain, my self is in the progress of building a table. Pitty the buildings arent playble. I also started using the gondor kit to create a “wealthy” part of the town and then I will have to make some other buildings.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před 6 měsíci

      That’s a great idea using the Gondor terrain. I’m going to be leaning into the ‘Empire in Flames’ rules for the narrative here, so much of it is sneaking about in the town and it’s surroundings with the buildings inhabited rather than ruins, but I will add a couple that are playable.
