I've read and have talked to Veterinarians that permetheren is only toxic when first applied and wet, once it dry's its safe.. we have used this product (Sawyer) for years, no issues..we run our yellow lab on a gated road that is just packed with tics in certain areas, I'm hoping that we can spray these areas just once and at least reduce the amount.. instead of spending an hour removing the ticks, maybe 5-10 min.. and thank goodness she's a yellow lab!
Permethrin products - like anything else we sell - are considered safe when used as directed on the product label. We always recommend treating the environment as well as the pets themselves for tick control, using products approved for these applications.
Have to love New York! We have some of the highest Lyme disease rates and almost every wooded area contains nymph deer ticks, however homeowners are banned from applying these chemicals. Clearly, not enough lawmakers have had to be put in the situation where they need to remove a tick embedded in their scrotum. This is personal to me now.
Install a Barn Owl nest box. They will eat small warm blooded mammals which host ticks. Also plant Persimmon trees. Persimmons will attract nature's tick vacuum the Opossum.
Most residual insecticides cannot be used on edible plants such as vegetables. You can either avoid these areas, or you could use a product that is safe to use around gardens such as Essentria All Purpose: www.domyown.com/essentria-all-purpose-insecticide-concentrate-p-14619.html
You should keep all non-target animals like pets out of the treatment area while you are spraying and until your application is completely dry. It is also best to treat in the morning or evening when pollinators are not active.
@@killasic A product label will specify if a product cannot be used on a property with a well or cistern. Most products do not have this restriction. Of course, you would not want to spray directly onto or next to a well or other water source. We recommend that you keep sprays at least 10 feet away from wells unless otherwise noted on the label of the product you are using.
While there are some granular products that are labeled for control of ticks, we recommend using a liquid either instead of or in addition to granules so that you can treat on tall grasses, yard debris, shrubs, and other areas where ticks can crawl up the plants to get to a host. You would not be able to treat these areas thoroughly with just a granule application to the ground.
Spraying like this will kill all insects right? Understand please the very important role insects play in our lives... also is this stuff safe to spray where our pets and children play? ?
Most products that will control ticks are going to be non-selective pesticides, which is why we always recommend following product labels so that you are using products in effective, safe ways. We do not encourage efforts to eliminate all insects/arachnids from an area, but we recognize that a pest like ticks can carry deadly diseases and be very harmful to other animals and to people. We always recommend keeping people other than the applicator and pets out of the treatment area until your application is dry.
Ticks are my worst fear, if I get one.... I can't get it off myself, so thanks for the advice to rid my yard of these horrific bugs

What if the area that need to be treated has vegetables in that general area is it safe to spray that plant as well?
