- On October 4th I had the opportunity to sit in the cockpit of a SAS McDonnell Douglas MD-82 on route CPH-ARN and to have an experience of a lifetime. This is my final SAS flight of the Super 80/Maddog which is retiring from active service on Saturday October 26th. I tried my best to cover each step and the procedures made. SE-DIR, Nora Viking, which is the registration and name of this airframe will be set to rest in the SAS museum in Oslo and luckily not end up in the desert like so many other SAS DC-9's and MD-80's. This is my first time being in the jumpseat of any plane, so please don't blame me too hard if you think that I could have done better. I hope you'll enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed sitting in the cockpit of this legendary airplane. A big thank goes to the one's who made this happen for me! Thank you for watching!

one of the best cockpit videos around the net.
One of the best video ever! Thumbs up from Sweden! :)
They were indeed super friendly! Not much time to spare while being in flight, but I got me a little chat. Still very cool that I was allowed to mount my GoPro on the window ;) Thank you!
Thank you very much Robin! The sad end of the last 'real' plane among the SAS fleet is near..
Rigtig flot video! Thumbs up ;)
Desværre så er det jo på lørdag vi skal sige farvel en gang for alle til denne fantastiske fugl! :(
Thanks for watching, you're very welcome!
Excellent video! Thank you. One thing that is not seen on current aircraft anymore is the worn out control yokes as seen on this video. That means, that these airplanes were hand-flown a lot. The industry will never see a worn out Airbus sidestick this way. I was never around for the mad dog, but plenty DC9 time. Great aircraft!
Now this is great stuff! : ) Well done.
Thank you so much, appreciated!
Thank you, I'm very happy about it! :)
According to SAS facobooksite, this very aircraft 'SE-DIR' will end up at the flight museum in Oslo. Brilliant. :)
Great video mate! You are so lucky! liked :)
What an amazing video! Fantastic footage from the cockpit mate! Very well done!
Thank you very much! Wish you the best of luck ;)
Climbs like a rocket!
Thanks for including nice views of the throttle and elevator trim pedestal with nice shots of the instrument panel. I would rather see that kind of activity more than viewing out the windscreen. Very nice show.
One of the best video ever!!! Thumbs up from Montreal, Canada! :)
So awesome, great to see old cockpits! Captain and 1st officer looked fun people to fly with :D
wow awesome indeed !!!
You really made my day with this comment, thank you so much! :)
Thank you so much, worked really hard to make this work out! Can't thank you enough :)
Thank you very much! Yes, I was very lucky :)
Underbar video!
Amazing video! I love all the different shots, great footage! You are really lucky!! Liked :)
Very cool history!!!
;-)
Thank you very much. I would love to experience the past when all those classics were around - 'real planes'. Now airplanes are flown by computers. Sadly the SAS MD's have been phased out by October 26th. Thank you for sharing your story.
Wow, man!! :) What an amazing footage mate! :) Sweet video!! Great quality, and very beautiful take-off! well done! A very big aand well deserved like from me!
Thanks for watching!
Yes, I wrote that in the description, what a coincidence ;) Thank you very much for watching!
Haha! Luckily enough I know a SAS maddog pilot and made an agreement to sit in the cockpit during the flight. Hadn't happened without his help.
Thanks for watching!
Oh yes, you did so. :)
Tusind tak! Ja, det er altid en fornøjelse at se 80'eren stige til vejrs :) Det er næsten ikke til at begribe :(
Good video!! What does it mean the alarm that sounds at 3:53 minute?
+Diego Germán Telesa Trim sound. :)
Wow, epic! How'd you get permission to do this? In the US the FAA would have a heart attack.
Hvordan har du fået lov at sætte gopro op i vinduet?
0:57 Rip my ipad speakers!
I thought it is against FAA rules to have a passenger in the cockpit during flight unless it is a employe
It's probably true, but FAA regulations would not affect an European airline like SAS on a flight within Europe.
+David Berquist faa is only in Usa i think
Well, i have been in touch with flight attendants and pilots and in most european airlines it is up to the captain if a person can get into the cockpit. :)
