  • This video shows my journey from Palisades Interstate Park in New Jersey across the Hudson River and the Harlem River, through Washington Heights and ending at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
    I really enjoyed riding across both the George Washington Bridge and High Bridge and I would recommend visiting them if you get a chance.
    I used my Contour Roam 2 camera to shoot the action footage and recorded the audio with my Panasonic voice recorder and earpiece microphone. I tracked the speed and heart rate using my Garmin eTrex 30 GPS, and wrote a basic program in Turing to refresh the numbers on the screen for displaying it.
    New York City is a great bicycling city! I encourage you to explore the city on a bike if you ever visit.

    Thanks for watching!

    I rode over a bridge last year and I still don't remember where I went...from the Bronx to Randall's Island. From Randall's Island I saw a bridge and kept on going. Oh the excitement I felt. Love this vid

    Originally the bridge was designed to have trains go across it. The lower deck was opened to the public on August 29, 1962. The lower level, nicknamed "Martha" after George's wife Martha Washington, increased the capacity of the bridge by 75 percent, and simultaneously made the George Washington Bridge the world's only 14-lane suspension bridge.

    Nice bike tour videos! I live in Inwood and cycle this area a lot, especially over the GWB to Fort Lee for Korean food. You might be interested to know that since you shot this, a new two-way protected bike lane was laid down on 170th Street (15:13 in your video), connecting this point to Highbridge Park.

    Hello from Russia Federation (Samara) We are kind of part of America now,so with the video clips like your ones - espasially when you do the talking that much.. Well the point is your video helps to learn inglish and thanks to you found some new words to remember. You are lucky one to drive Bronx where every corner is full of gungsters and had no problems with one of then _ the crime rate is still high there it is just less visiable. Try to ride there at night time you will find out for sure _ and why are you really luck? Any con who serve long stretch wright now behind bars in SUPERMAX would give anything just to face open summer day like you did. That is what i call real happyness - free ride with no care in the world _ by the way what do you do for a living to travel from Canada to NY? How much money do i have to save to do the same?

    Great video. The GWB reminds me of the GGB in San Francisco. Did you ever experience any flat tires or other bicycle maintenance issues during your trip, cjhoyle, and if so what did you do? Thanks.

    • @cjhoyle
      @cjhoyle  Před 9 lety +1

      BikeBlogger No flat tires during this trip, but I did break my rear axle. Unfortunately this is a chromic problem I have with my green machine (and other bikes I've owned which I used for carrying lots of cargo). Thankfully the spot where I broke it was only a 30 minute walk from my hotel and it happened at a time when I wasn't in a hurry to get somewhere. Anticipating this might happen, I came prepared on my trip with a spare axle along with cone wrenches to install it.

      Mike S Its fine to do when going through to university heights or fordham to inwood through the washington bridge and high bridge but be much more wary when going fr the south bronx like hunts point to west harlem. Just look like you belong, be confident, and pass through without much stopping in places like those.

    • @michaelchin3550
      @michaelchin3550 Před 5 lety +1

      I have never had a problem riding through the Bronx . I own a very expensive bike too. I think they are scared of my calves.

  • @linuxante5286

    You could shoot (or to record) the Statue of Liberty from that bridge? ahahaha! You have a telescope, not a camera! Look like you din't notice that the G.W. bridge has 2 levels. You used the uper level (the only one for pedestrian or bike).
    And it is true: it is not good idea ride on the Bronx. I live very close to the Yankee Stadium, and I can tell that it is a dangerous area. If you are going to do it again, do not come alone! Do it... Bring more than 2 riders/people with you! Because there are youg (and blc...) people very agresive on this area. They think that doing something wrong (like hurting you) is something funny! And it is not! A lot of police every corner, but still dangerous place. It is not so dangerous like before, like you said. But not a good area to live (in).
    Congratulations my friend! You know how to enjoy the life!
    See you! I'm going to ride (my bike) right now!
