I just made one yesterday while waiting at a bday party at a gym for toddlers, to kill time. It was very easy to follow. I only had acrylic yarn, but I just gave it a shot. I just made a blanket using this same pattern. However, if you only put a single crochet in the first last chain of each row... chain 2 and turn. Your edges will be straight.

Hello! Yes, this would be the Suzette stitch :)
Just so you know, in the written pattern for the button hole loop rows, it is unclear that you are meant to just repeat the 4 HDC and not the full Skip 1st st, sl st in next 2sts, 1hdc in next 4sts, ch1 and turn. Just a heads up, to save someone some time while reading your pattern

I had a LOT of cotton in my stash, like an insane amount, so wanted to use some up lol. You can certainly use acrylic yarn as well. :)
Approximately how much yarn does it take to make a cozy? I would like to get some yarn for my mom to try to make these.
I used less than a skein of cotton yarn for one cozy.
Did anyone find that the cotton yarn stretches? I used the exact yarn and measured the 8 inches and when I was done the 8 inch section was 9.5 inches long. It ended up being too long for the mug. Any tips? I’m thinking of only doing 6 in and then maybe it will stretch to 8
Cotton can stretch a little depending on which cotton yarn you're using. It can also depend on your tension. You can always make less rows to see if that will help or go down a hook size. You can also try a bigger/wider mug than I show in my video. Good luck!

The yarn I used for this pattern is the Mainstays Cotton yarn, which you can get from Walmart.
How many can you make from a 100g ball of yarn?
I’m not sure as I haven’t tested it out, but I would imagine you would be able to make 3-4?
