- The Blue Maran is a very attractive larger hen in shades of light to dark grey/blue. They are a cross between a Maran and a Rhode Island Red.
They are capable of laying approximately 300 eggs per year, the eggs are brown with an unusual ‘plum’ tint.
The Marans, French: Poule de Marans, is a French breed of dual-purpose chicken, reared both for meat and for its dark brown eggs. It originated in or near the port town of Marans, in the département of Charente-Maritime, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of south-western France.
Do they also lay the dark brown eggs.
It varies, some of them lay not so dark eggs ,and some lay dark brownish mixed dar greenish eggs
Marans are amazing birds, ever had any black copper marans??
Yeah they are pretty awesome birds ,no unfortunately not ,I just know they lay the darkest eggs of all Marans.
Do you have any chickens as well?
@@farmonthehill5135 Yes we have a small flock, and will be adding more this spring. I would purchase chicks from your farm but it looks like we are on different continents! Haha
@@Cedarlan I just subscribed before ,Awesome flock ,I life in Italy Europe where you actually from haha
@@farmonthehill5135Thanks for the sub! We are in Tennessee, US. I love seeing farms in Europe and all the heirloom type breeds like you have. Breeds here in the US are more domesticated so it's harder getting into specialty breeds. Your farm is looking great, here's to a successful spring 🌼🌱
No problem at all,oh Tennessee gracious landscapes there, I saw some videos of Tennessee.I see yeah also here it wasn't so easy to find the breeds I wanted, but it's getting easier to find them as People are getting more and more into keeping chickens,I wish you a successful spring as well😊
