As a vet who served in the Iraq war, what makes me sick about Americans is how quickly they forgot about what those terrorists did to my fellow country men. The road to fight terrorism will never end. There will always be evil in this world and it must be dealt with. My resolve will never waiver to root out that evil, whatever the cost. But the heroes/victims on flight 93 deserve recognition as well. Yet the majority of Americans forget about them and that is just pathetic and shameful.

Not gonna lie, the fact that he threw such a beautiful pitch here is amazing given the circumstances. All the stress of the coming war, the very real possibility of being shot/bombed from such a vulnerable open position, the expectations of all the fans for you to perform the pitch, the bullet proof vest, just all the things that had to be going through his mind at that time he still goes out there and throws a beautiful pitch. Nerves of steel.
Super sad looking back on it knowing that it was all a sham. Not the emotion of the fans or the sentiment of the moment but the fact that people close to Bush (and someone that made an appearance in this vignette) knew about 9/11 before it happened and participated in the cover up.

Even with all of its current problems and its flawed history; I love the United States, its people, and its ideals. My parents left their home country for a better future, and this country is my home and every American is my fellow countryman. It pains me to see the country so divided across politics, across race, across economics, and a seemingly growing list of divides. I want unity, I want progress towards a more perfect union, I want this country to do better for more people, I want Americans to help other Americans, I want Americans to live lives of freedom. I love this country; not because it's perfect, but because it's my home -- and I long for the day when we can heal and be reunited as Americans.
I too long for this day when we can fly the flag and chant “USA!” And it only be a unifying chant where every American agrees and exclaims with pride in their country. I wish it would get here soon, these are sad times
And here I thought i came here to relive this moment alone as a lonely American praying for unity while only taking solace in baseball; the one thing every American should have in common. You and I may never meet but as one fellow American and baseball fan to another I want you to know that I love you. We may have our differences, but that is what makes us American. God bless you.

I hadn't heard from him in months. A new nurse director, I was invited to a meet & greet. All docs and VPs and Laura asked - who here with family in Iraq? Meekly I stepped forward with my sons service star- as she signed it ( with Secret service next to her) she asked, ( noting my tears) “when have you heard from him last?” I replied its been months- sobbing. She took his name. The next morning! My son calls saying his sergeant shook his rack saying “get up NOW and call your mother!” my son called and said mom - what's wrong?!!!! At the gala my beautiful angel First Lady, I thanked. True story

It's the kids. The millennials and post-millennials who are just now coming of age, controlling what's popular on social media - those too young to have actually lived through and cherished the togetherness that brought America together during one of its darkest moments... Those who weren't there or were too young - they're today's journalists. They're today's voters. The political landscape has changed. Now it's about hate culture (from both sides) and focusing on miniscule problems rather than bettering the country and world at large... It's certainly sad. I wish it could return. Without a catastrophe like 9/11 this time. If only...
@@iiscrzzey3980 Anymore? With all do respect my man... The Democratic party never cared about America only for power. The only Democrats that ever strayed from the destructive practices of the party were either assassinated or erased from the history books by the party itself.
This is the kind of unity I wish we would have today. We respected each other, and worked hard to keep the country moving forward, regardless of who we vote for. We now have such a broken society where we are defined by politics.
I'm a Yankee fan from CA since I was 12. I was 16 at the time I watched this game. Seeing this brings back all the feeling I had from 9/11. I will never forget.
_I watched him and he was _*_my_*_ representative, and I've never felt that way before._ Seems like such a mature way of thinking suddenly vanished in this country. But this guy gets it.
Same guy that told President Bush to throw from the mound or get booed, some 16 years later - though then still 13 years younger - throws his own 1st Pitch from the mound. Having lived in NYC for a few years and having seen games @ Yankee Stadium, Jeter likely gave President Bush great advice I'd say, on any ordinary day. But on this evening, on the heels of the September 11 attacks on America, whether the President threw from the mound, or half-way. Whether he threw a strike, bounced it or it went 10 feet wide & over the backstop. It wouldn't have mattered. Yankee fans cared most as we all did. That our President was there that night to re-start this nation despite great doubt & fear, just as the fans in that stadium were. President Bush took Jeter at his word, stood at the top of the mound and delivered a strike for the entire nation, at 55 years of age on the biggest stage ever. After all, he was always a baseball guy. Well done Mr. President.
Ill never forget the comraderi following 911 and pride we all felt for our country and each other. Everyone, and i mean everyone put their differences aside, and became friends. Everywhere you went, strangers were giving you the peace sign, waving at you, shaking hands, slapping backs and embracing. We were all united. We were all family. We need that back, desperately!
Didn’t care for Bush growing up… but god damn I get tears in my eyes watching this knowing how important this moment was. How united WE THE PEOPLE were.. baseball prevails and America prevails!
No matter how hard I try, I always cry watching this video. Incredibly powerful and moving when Bush walks out of the dugout. True patriotism at its finest.
This is a moment to point to when people ask why bad things happen. Sometimes our contention and depravity gets to a point where only something extreme will shock us back to reality and bring us together. That he would throw a strike, from the pitcher's rubber, without a bounce, was weirdly a very huge deal for us all.

My dad watched this game and said he literally started weeping when bush threw that strike.. my dad was on a flight from Denver to Vancouver when the north tower got struck.. he was grounded in Boise Idaho and couldn’t leave his plane for almost 22 hours.. it was the day he said truly brought him to Christ.. and he’ll never forget it ☦️

To this day and to my last, I will always carry a symbol on my vehicle to never forget those who sacrificed to carry on the fight. FDNY NYEMT NYPD
Thank you for your service, God bless America!
As a resident of Pennsylvania, it makes me sick that so many forget about the heroes on flight 93 who crashed the plane in an empty field to ensure no one on the ground would get hurt/killed. Do you know how many 'we'll always remember' comments I see on the anniversary of 9/11 that only mention NY and D.C.? I realize the death count and destruction was far worse in NY and D.C. But the heroes/victims on flight 93 deserve recognition as well. Yet the majority of Americans forget about them and that is just pathetic and shameful.
And what a pitch! A single pitch has never meant more to me.. Don't know why it just felt powerful, comforting and American..
