The dual HDMI is perfect for future proofing (for now), the reading & writing to & from, S-video & component, the aesthetic is nice but I’m more blown away how minty this one is. I know I'm answering a question posted a year ago, but the answer might benefit others.
I am guessing you were trying to watch a store-bought movie. Most of those movies were equipped with a copy protection scheme called "Macrovision", which would wreck havoc with the signal on the recording VCR. Usually you'd be getting oversaturated colors and the picture would switch between being very bright and very dark. As a "bonus" you'll get random 10-seconds bursts of distorted picture.
The CZcams channel Technology Connections has a video on MacroVision, which I'd recommend watching if you wish to know more.

Hi, I'm trying to transfer about 80 VHS, and compact VHS family video tapes to SD Card, Flash Drive, or DVD? I bought a few SD Card storage cases and some SD Cards because I thought the were "permanent" , but then I found out that SD cards last maybe 5 yrs, Flash Drives maybe 10 yrs. Trying to find out which would be the most permanent way, without putting on the computer, internet or social media?
Also I cant seem to find your converter anywhere. Do you still have yours , and if you do, are you willing to sell it? :-) Thanks, Chuck

Effectively, digital storage in general is as "permanent" as one can really get, as long as- & this is the _biggest_ key factor in their overall longevity- the physical* containers are very well cared-for, for as long as one plans to save them.
The trickiest issues with storing on digital cards ("flash drives" tend to be the same but just with bigger / somewhat "safer" physical housing) is the ability to get lost or otherwise damaged. So if you plan to have all your digital storage kept secure in a single lockbox for safekeeping, it should last many years & decades down the line. You can always make extra copies for more frequent viewings too, ie designate one box for "storage only" & another one for family accessing / viewing anytime. ☆
(*Digital storage in virtual containers (like "clouds") is similarly "permanent", as long as it's "paid for" or otherwise supported, but can be even more difficult to acquire, especially with any "guarantee" that the supplier will stick around indefinitely, yet it is still viable as another option of keeping one's memories backed up; currently many are using services like Google & Amazon)
Whatever method of backups you go with, it'd likely be most wise to expect to make newer backups of "everything so far" every 10-20 years or so & also maybe have "backups of backups" of your most valued ones just in case, to be on the safe side, stored in different locations.. at least that's what I'd do, hehe. ☆

An S-VHS player with S-Video with S-Video to HDMI converter will look better. Your Panasonic player has outdated and subpar analog to digital conversion.

You cannot upscale a vhs video to 1920x1080 - you don't have that much information in the video to do so - you can stretch the video to match 1920x1080 size but in order to uplscale you need video information ( pixels ) that can draw the missing info - you can use AI to do so , but that is it , you can check it by youself - by zooming into a video and then you'll see the video getting distorted - this is because there are lots of video miss info in that particular frame
