      @@dlarge6502 Which is only natural, the number of potential buyers would be too low to manufacture a device like this with decent quality, I'm afraid.

    My local library used this exact model player for digitizing old VHS tapes.

    Nice stable image with s-vhs, looks a lot like Laserdisc. Wish I'd known about this unit back in the day.

      Oh, but this is from an era when we were itching to leave videotape behind, right? We would only have appreciated that if we owned lots of unique recorded material.

    I had a first generation DVD set top recorder by magnavox back in the early 2000s. I did the same thing by swapping a computer dvd burner into the unit and it worked great! Nice job on this video.

    Looking at some old forums, I'm not so sure now about disabling macrovision, but I have a DVD/HDD recorder from that era. There are some neat things you can do and I assume that the DVD part of your unit should work too.
    if you want region free on this recorder, use the following codes from the remote:
    - open the loader tray first
    1) press "Setup" on the remote control;
    2) go down padlock icon without selecting it;
    3) press "0" button seven times;
    4) a message will appear confirming that "your unit is now region-free"
    5) if it is already region free and you do this, you will deactivate it - just follow these steps again to reactivate

    I haven't yet watched this video (I will later.), but I recently found out that there actually was a D-VHS VCR that actually had a built-in DTV tuner. That D-VHS VCR was the Mitsubishi HS-HD1100U. I did see some, for sale, on eBay. It might be interesting to check it out if you haven't already. I just wanted to share that with you all.

    Panasonic and Toshiba made similar units. I have a Panasonic DMR-ES45V which is basically a VCR/DVD multi-recorder with card reader and HDMI output (along with the standard analog IO). I also have a Toshiba D-VR5 VCR*/DVD "-" recorder with HDMI output (and analog IO)...It doesn't have a card reader or the ability to record "+" format DVDs, but otherwise is the same as the LG and Panasonic units.

    Interesting that it can actually output VHS through HDMI. And since you can change the resolution of the output, does it upscale VHS footage well? Because of so, then this could be a good player to get for archiving recorded blank tapes.

    • @strawberrymochiiz
      @strawberrymochiiz Před rokem

      Good question and I'd love to know the answer. But, you could use Topaz AI to upscale after converting VHS to digital.

      @@strawberrymochiizthe ad conversion is where the money is tho, no means of upscaling will help you get rid of drop outs and missing scan lines of the og material

  • @Capturing-Memories
    @Capturing-Memories Před 2 lety +1

    It will be important to know if the HDMI output takes the Y-C source signal from VHS or it just takes composite pin and converts it to digital. A digging in the schematic should probably answer the question unless it uses massive SoC modules where there is no schematics for.

      I bought a used Audinac ADVDR-005 DVD recorder and player, but unfortunately the laser is too battered to use it as a recorder. As a safa player... I save myself at least to use it as an intermediate, since the recorder does not have a composite input (yellow RCA), but component, and the DVD has a component output...
