  • Welcome! This month's project is painting the Grey Knight half of Hexfire. I painted some Grey Knights on commission back in 2015 and was happy with how they came out at the time. But, I'm really happy with how these came out. Being able to add the techniques that I have learned along the way made these so much nicer. The oil wash, the zenithal highlights, everything came together for this one. Being able to paint up a Nemesis Dreadknight, Strike Squads and Crowe together was a real treat.
    The idea for the Dreadknight conversion and the bases came from community members. I feel bad as its been so long now that I cant find the references again. If anyone know who did those let me know and Ill pin a comment for them.
    Feel free to put any questions or comments in and Ill get back to you.
    Sit back and enjoy the show!

    oh sick man, i love that cracking effect. i wonder if you could get some tiny purple/pink marks on that black sword like sigils or something to make the shape of the sword pop a little more? looks freaking rad tho

      I like the idea, creating an internal glow that links to the flame color is a great idea. Thanks.

      Thanks! That's the big advantage to cutting 25 hrs of painting into ten minutes 😁

      Thanks, I really got handed a gift to work with in that German copy!

    Alright, picking any one aspect of this video would be doing everything else in it a disservice, so I'll try to be as fair as possible. As to the black 3.0, when used like that, I think the effect came out awesome. Suddenly, out of a bunch of (outstandingly) painted little guys, he stands out by that feature alone. As for the little guys themselves, I've always been partial to their color schemes, and you knocked these guys out of the park. I'm aware of my own bias, but those guys look outstanding. Best descriptor I can come up with, that doesn't sound disingenuous. And finally the bases; man- for that little effort (no offence meant, obviously), I cant believe how good the result winds up being. Outside of the effort it would've taken, my only question about it would be why you didn't opt to pin them instead of glue 'em. Outside of all that, a fantastic video all around, and in before the holidays, to boot. I hope you and yours have a great Christmas and new year, and we'll see you in the next one. Take care.

      Thanks for the thoughts and kind words HP!
      I don't take any offense at all with the base comment, that's the absolute beauty of it. I think that'll they'll probably be the next full tutorial I make.
      As for why I didn't pin... I got excited to see it come together finally and rushed it. You're correct that it's the right choice in this situation though.

      @@OriginPainting Hey, you're welcome, and I can't wait to see a full video on the bases; they really do look great. And I definitely understand the excitement of wanting to finish the miniature- so I hear you on just gluing the little bastards to the base instead of pinning 'em. Just wondered if you didn't figure it was worth the effort, is all. Thanks for the reply, and again, have a good one.

      I think it's actually a good call as theirs a layer of craft glue on it now.

    Hello! Thanks for the video.
    Trying to do the bases.Have the question - how long did it take glue to dry?

    • @OriginPainting
      @OriginPainting  Před rokem +1

      Hi! I cheated a bit and used a hair dryer on low heat. If you let it dry naturally I would give it a full hour to make sure it sets hard.

    Did you just spray regular black paint on the glue for the crack or a different product?

    • @OriginPainting
      @OriginPainting  Před 2 lety +1

      I used my pro acryl black through the airbrush. I've also brushed it on top, you just have to be liberal with the paint and gentle not to go through the glue layer. I'd imagine that you could use a regular spray can, again make sure you don't spray through the glue though.

    Did you put a varnish on before doing the oil wash? I tried this a little ways back and i didnt. So when i tried to remove the access wash, the paint came along with it.

    • @OriginPainting
      @OriginPainting  Před 10 měsíci

      I usually try to varnish before using heavy washes that I plan to physically remove. If you wait a day for the paint to cure more it'll be easier to avoid damage without varnish but I think it's always better to add the protection.

    wait u just painted the sword the blackest black, looks unfinished to me. the bases are realy nice

    • @OriginPainting
      @OriginPainting  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, the end effect want quite what I wanted.
      I was hoping that the big contrast between the flames and the pure black would really pop but it just didn't come out as strong.

      @@OriginPainting maybe u could do something with the runes, a nice glow effect for example

    • @OriginPainting
      @OriginPainting  Před 2 lety

      @@highlordalcadizakyr1479 yeah, that could definitely reinforce the flame connection.
